I managed to make one tank out of this book, though there were a few calling my name. I attempted the Bellingham
And what I ended up making looked like some kind of cursed cobblers apron-tunic-thing. I blame some of this on my newness to making garments, though I did a test swatch for finding my gauge so *in theory* I should have gotten everything right. I had correct stitch counts the entire project as well.
Despite my tear-worthy/inducing results, I still found the patterns easy to read. I do wish there had been some attempts at showing what the projects looked like scaled up on larger bodies though. I hope to revisit this pattern in due time and try it again once I have a better feeling for knitting garments and the adjustments I need to make.
I knitted Memphis, pg 80 onwards, as I wanted a quick and easy knit after frogging a previous one.
And frogged the first 30 rows of this one maybe 5 times... the holes for the i-cord were huge even though I checked the gauge more than once. I looked up a knitting resource and used a different technique for them and they look so much better. Plus I didn't like how the decreases for the shaping looked, as well as the complicated counting so I skipped them. I acknowledge those with a very different waist / hip ratio might not want to do that but it worked for me.
Will I knit another pattern from this book? Probably, there's a few others I am considering. But I'll use it as a guide only and just keep to the general feel / look as soon as I encounter the first problem next time.
Things that could also be improved - not using acronyms where it's not obvious or repeated and the words would fit eg pm (place marker). It's annoying to have to look something like that up.
Really helpful book of patterns with clear, detailed instructions. Better suited to intermediate/advanced knitters with a couple projects for people looking to start graduating to intermediate level difficulty.
Some nice patterns, personally not my style, might be one or two I'd consider making. A good section at the beginning with notes on fit and fibre. Simple decent book
This is a great little book that definitely delivers on its title. I think it's going on my "To-Buy" list and while I might not knit anything from here, it will certainly be a reference that I will go to again and again. There are a great variety of garment styles here, from simple to cables and lace, tank-styles to one-shouldered, cropped to tunic. Photography shows fronts and backs of garments (YEA!) and schematics and stitch diagrams are included. Mostly, these garments look like one would actually wear them in warmer weather AND be comfortable! Well done!
