One thing is certain, Jack has been forged in space and will fight to save humanity from the hostile aliens who inhabit it.
The Forged in Space Boxed Set includes the first three books in the Jack Forge, Fleet Marine series. If you like fast paced military science fiction, Jack Forge is the kind of hero you can root for.

There's a Ervin Berlin song ' You Gotta Get Up ' that states why military personnel need to do certain things. Case in point young Jack is drafted because his grade point slipped, does this seem like out of three Viet Nan war era , No one wants to be drafted but humanity is in a war against aliens and is losing it. Replacements are needed to fill the gaps in all the ranks and must become a marine against his wishes. Follow Jack from boot camp training to becoming a true Marine. Battles are fought on the ground and aboard ship. Replacements are far and few as squad members are lost in combat. Jack goes from a green recruit to being an officer in this three box set.
Odd combination of good SF with pockets of lesser quality
This book is odd, as it has a majority of good quality military SF, but several times it makes jumps that are just confusing instead of mysterious. It also continues to have characters who are not only sadistic idiots, but the people in charge totally ignore this even when it damages morale and badly reduces the efficiency and effectiveness of an already losing force. I really have a problem with this, both from the unrealistic idea that a more advanced future military would be stupid enough to tolerate it in general when we've been aware for decades that it doesn't work!
Since I still like several of the characters I'm going to read more but may finally give up on this if it remains the same throughout.
This series follows Jack Forge as he's recruited into the fleet marine corp when his grades at uni fall below the required level. Although a reluctant recruit we follow Jack through basic training and many missions fighting the invading Chits. There plenty of action and this omnibus addition gives a great start to what will be a first rate series.
An entertaining story with lots of action and a decent plot. The writing is a bit of a clipped style that lets the reader move through the story q at a good pace. My only complaints are a lack of a back story on how mankind came to be there in the first place and inconstancies in grammer and tech jargon in the stories.
A JDV. Collection of Forged in Space Set: Books 1-3 (JF) (FMO.)
JDV and publisher have collected the first three novel in the Lost Marine series; 1) Jack Forge: Recruit 2) Jack Forge: Forged in Space 3) Jack Forge: Forced to Lead This collection is an excellent read for the genre......DEHS
Wow! Shades of "Full Metal Jacket" combined with "We Were Soldiers Once, and Young." Very good character depiction, and realistic scenarios as to training (boot camp) and the camaraderie that is generated there. Only complaint...these books are TOO SHORT. Either that, or I enjoyed them so much I couldn't put them down. I very much look forward to reading any of the other books in the series. Thanks also to Kindle Unlimited for cheap access to the books.
An exciting read. Only 4 stars from me because I felt the books were a bit short and therefore felt rushed, not allowing time to pad out the characters as much as I'd have liked. But I am looking forward to the next instalments.
Regular believable Marines fighting hard to kill and seemingly innumerable tentacled bad guys. Real life stories mixed in to keep your interest. No big bad ass heroes. Just good soldiers doing their job. Very entertaining!
It's a great book and the characters and the background are a strange twist a personalities which makes it a great story. I read the first three books and when I can I will be buying more forge in space books
This is a good and gripping science-fiction/action series. The characters are developed well and the stories have a great plot. There are also other box sets in this series - this is just the first 3.
Just my type of favourite read. Never wanted it to end. Not going to give any spoilers out. Fans of military science fiction, get stuck in. Got to go. Need to download and enjoy the next adventure.
Good way to pass a few hours, comrade in the face of overwhelming odds. I am a bit interested in what Jack has in his past that can bring it all crashing down on him.
A well written SCI-FI war story. It is the beginning of a series. The only downside is that it has some rather significant plot lines which will be addressed in later issues.
A lot of action and it was interesting the episodes regarding book camp. The military action was very well describe and kept me interested in the outcome of the story. Well done.
I grabbed this box set under the assumption that it was a trilogy. It's not! This four stars. There are so many series on Amazon in this genre. Even though I am forced to read two more books with Jack Forge leading the charge, it won't be terrible. This is one of the better series i have read lately. Plenty of action and suspense. The editing is the best I've seen in a while
