Dandelion Trilogy - The people will rise #2

The Roots of Resistance: - Love and Revolution -

Rate this book
You're in for an exciting ride...as incendiary writer Charlie Rider and the unforgettable Zadie Byrd Gray rise to meet the political challenges flung at them from all sides.Freedom and equality loom just out of reach as the outraged corporate oligarchy scrambles to take back power after the Dandelion Insurrection's successful nonviolent revolution. Everyone from schoolteachers to whistleblowers leaps into action to help them confront the forces of corrupt politics. But the struggle turns volatile when an armed group called the Roots shows up. They claim to be protecting the movement . . . but who do they really serve? Author Rivera Sun's novels are compared to the works of George Orwell, Upton Sinclair, Mark Twain and Barbara Kingsolver. She weaves social protest with the practical and inspiring field of nonviolent struggle, drawing on the legacy of King, Gandhi, Chavez, and countless more. As fiery as Pulitzer Prize winning author Chris Hedges and more radical than Bernie Sanders, Rivera Sun's fiction is the perfect companion through the wild ride of our times! Please read what the reviewers say... "A tale of revolution, resistance and the indomitable power of love… skims tantalizingly close to the surface of what could be political reality in these United States in just a few short years." - Elizabeth Murray, former Deputy National Intelligence Officer for the Near East, National Intelligence Council and Member in Residence, Ground Zero Center for Nonviolent Action "Billed as 'Book Two of the Dandelion Trilogy,' this one makes me hope Sun is punching out Book Three soon and perhaps, like Douglas Adams, will give us, someday, Books Four and Five of the Trilogy." - Tom H. Hastings, Conflict Resolution Assistant Professor, Portland State University "This novel is a nuanced political, moral, and emotional exploration of risks, sacrifices and rewards that a commitment to social justice can elicit in the hearts of some extraordinary people. In reading The Roots of Resistance, I was frequently moved to resist the plot’s incessant pull of haste so that I might linger and relish the rich emotional dynamics within such noble characters. A memorable cognitive and emotional journey." - Nim Batchelor, Professor of Philosophy, Elon University “In times of despair, we need hope. In times of frustration, we need inspiration. In times of confusion, we need clarity. Rivera brings us all of these and more.” - Stephen Zunes, Professor of Politics and International Studies, University of San Francisco "A must-read, written by the talented Rivera Sun! Resistance is essential, as nonviolent actions will save humanity. Amazingly inspirational!" - Robin Wildman, Nonviolent Schools "This novel represents Rivera Sun at her best - plenty of action, a gripping story-line, really interesting and conscious characters (at least the good guys!), and all in the service of a non-violent, yet wholly believable revolution that could just transform these United States." - Jim Dreaver, author, End Your Story, Begin Your Life This is Book Two of the DandelionTrilogy. It is a complete story and may be read independently, but as one reviewer said "The story of this book can stand alone but why cheat yourself?" They are fun to read in any order but best is to read both! Get them right now!...

I'm glad to be hearing great things about this book.

"The Roots of Resistance is a compelling page-turner about the inner workings of a nonviolent movement and how it deals with forces that try to sabotage it. I loved this book!"
- Judy Olson, Backbone Campaign

"This book is a treasure of a resource; it’s a repertoire of nonviolence techniques disguised as a novel." - Michael Nagler, Founder and President, The Metta Center for Nonviolence

"A must-read, written by the talented Rivera Sun! Resistance is essential, as nonviolent actions will save humanity. Amazingly inspirational!" - Robin Wildman, Nonviolent Schools

"Rivera Sun always gifts us with usefully creative fiction. Her Roots of Resistance - the second novel of her Dandelion Trilogy - offers an inspiring story to help guide love-based strategic change efforts . . . . It takes a storyteller like Rivera Sun who inspires us to rise to the challenge as her characters do, because her stories tell us how."
- Tom Atlee, Co-Intelligence Institute

"Rivera Sun's The Roots of Resistance tells a story of a creative nonviolent resistance that is transforming the United States from inequality to equality, democratic dictatorship to a real people's democracy, to a United States that puts necessities of the people and protection of the planet before profits. The resisters from The Dandelion Insurrection, the first story in this three-part series, fight the challenges of infiltration, misdirection and media propaganda that activists face today. They show us how to respond and the difficulties these challenges cause within movements. They also give us hope of what could be in a way that seems achievable."
- Kevin Zeese and Margaret Flowers, Popular Resistance

"Rivera has crafted a vision of an unstoppable movement for democracy and leaves no corner or controversy of nonviolence unexplored. Find yourself within these pages and learn some new techniques for action while you’re here."
- Stephanie N. Van Hook, Executive Director,
The Metta Center for Nonviolence

“In times of despair, we need hope. In times of frustration, we need inspiration. In times of confusion, we need clarity. Rivera brings us all of these and more.”
- Stephen Zunes, University of San Francisco

A stunning book!
The sequel to The Dandelion Insurrection is as good as the first.
It’s the kind of book you can’t put down, but don’t want to end.
It’s an exciting read, and one that will put your heart in your mouth as you wonder what will happen next.
This story of persistent resistance is perfect for our world right now. The novel is full of useful concepts for real-life resistance, too.
I’m recommending this book (and the first one) to everyone I know. It’s a must-read.

Once again Rivera Sun weaves a captivating story of change and shows us a path forward out of the fear and control of our current chaotic world and toward a world whose foundation is Love. This is just the story we need to inform, inspire and call us forth into action.

"The Roots of Resistance" is pure medicine for serious times! This book takes the reader on a fast flying carpet ride through the unified highs and burned out lows of modern day activism. Rivera skillfully weaves principles and historical examples of nonviolent activism throughout the book in an engaging and uplifting way. By the end, I realized with surprise that I had soaked up a whole psychological suitcase full of tools and quiet smiling notions on how to apply nonviolent techniques to the very real, very intense issues we face as a nation and global community. Although this book is a great sequel to "The Dandelion Insurrection", it has a shine and soul of its own, and can definitely stand alone as a spirited and timely read in its own right.

Rivera's books always seem to open for me at appropriate times - mostly that's when I need even more inspiration and faith in humanity than usual, and this one did not disappoint in that realm, either. I am renewed in my faith and belief in non-violent revolution and renewed in my recognition, support and participation in the insurrection, signs of which i have begun, once again, to see everywhere. power to the people - let the dandelions flower, bloom, and spread their seeds of perserverence, health, healing and happiness everywhere! thanks again, rivera sun - your work in this world is inspiring, unifying and necessary.

Another brilliant book by Rivera Sun. I love how she explores the nuances and complexities of transitioning from a power over structure to a nonviolent society in The Roots of Resistance. She has a beautiful way of using narrative and character development to teach and demonstrate how nonviolence can be applied in our real experiences and relationships.

Brilliant I love Riveras work.

Brilliant writing. Superb relatable characters and storyline. Organised non violence is the way forward and we need to read and share this book. It shows how we each can be and mostly are activists.

It was a really good book. To me it wasn't as good as the 1st book of the series but it was close. This one seemed a little more duller to me but it still was a great read and I highly recommend the series so far.

There's were places I had tears in my eyes. For various reasons. Often I smiled. It appears as a movie in my mind as I cheer the characters on.

Haven't gotten to read books 1 or 2 yet, but this book, a gift, makes me excited to read 1 and for 3 to come out. Learned a lot of about the history of nonviolent movements and their efficacy in creating change...Rivera Sun also helps envision how these movements may be possible and come together in the times we live in today.
