Sometimes mommies are funny and playful. Other times they are warm and comforting. And mommies always know when to laugh, where to play, and how to love. Toddlers and preschoolers will love this book! It is a great quiet-time book, especially before nap or bedtime. Parents will likely tire of its simplicity (single sentence per page), but the cuddle factor is worth it! Once the kids know the end, they will want to re-read just for the hugs!
Such an adorable book about the joys of motherhood. I love that Brain showed multiple “mom animals” instead of sticking to just one. It is a great book for kids to know that Moms are pretty special;)
I Love My Mommy Summary: This is a story about a mommy and baby raccoon. It is a sweet and loving story. It is not very text heavy but it at the end has a great message. It is all about how your mom will be there for you during the best of times and the worst of times. The bond between parents and their children is so important at this age and development and this story is a tribute to that.
Themes: This story is all about love and support. The theme of this story is how love is so multi-dementional and that the relationships we have with people are simple yet dynamic. The lines of text in this story are brief but they carry great weight and meaning.
Star Rating: 5 out of 5
Personal Response: The older I get the more admiration I have for my mom and the relationship that I have with her. I had a lot of medical issues growing up and my go to person was my mom. The person I turn to during the fun times and the bad times is my mom. Just like the adorable relationship between the raccoons.
Recommendation: This is a great bedtime story and a special moment that could be shared between the two before bed. Its light hearted and extremely sweet. Overall its not a very plot heavy book, but it has a great message.
We all loved this book. The illustrations are big, bright and filled with love. The text is very simple and describes all the ways that moms show their love. Although the moms in this book are all animals the things they do for their young are the same things my story time audience look to their moms to do. This book is all about mom knowing just what we need at any time and being there to give it to us - from climbing lessons to a cuddle. I really liked that one of the pages talked about one mother (a beaver) who works very hard. These days not all mothers are able to play games with their children, or "stay by their side" as much as they might like to. Wonderful read aloud in celebration of mothers.
Reassuring title containing one-sentence descriptions which are highlighted by largely and warmly illustrated examples of all the things that Mommy does with her children (e.g. "My mommy cleans me up" showing a raccoon licking her young offspring). Enjoyable. Good readaloud for small or larger groups both.

This book is staple in our babies and ones classes. The illustrations are lovely and soft and the text, while not rhyming, is simple and good for a group read-aloud. Pointing out the animals and what they are would also work for toddlers.
