Why did murdered Gavin Elliott have the mysterious raincoat on? What did the new heather-grey sweater have to do with it? What did nine-year-old Emily Picton see / hear? This mystery with SO many jigs and jogs, takes place between WW I and II, when radios were uncommon. WELL. It wasn't Mr. Picton, or Mrs. Cutler or little Emily or half-a-dozen other people that Detective Chief-Inspector Kelsey and Sargent Lambert interview. Ms. Page distracts us a little too much, with characters flying around like -- well, flies. BUT. In the end, they get at the truth, and it's no one you would suspect, thank goodness. Justice is done.
