Jennifer Rothschild is a recovering perfectionist who has learned to live beyond limits ever since her life drastically changed at the age of fifteen, when she lost her sight. Now, more than 30 years later, she boldly and compassionately teaches women how to find contentment, walk with endurance, and celebrate the ordinary.

She's the author of ten books, including the best-selling Lessons I Learned in the Dark, Self Talk, Soul Talk, the popular Me, Myself and Lies Bible study, and her soon to be released, God Is Just Not Fair.

As a speaker, author and accomplished singer-songwriter she travels internationally, offering fresh, sensible, Biblical advice to audiences who, like her, are determined to pursue healthy and fulfilling lives in spite of their circumstances. She has shared her practical and inspiring messages to arena-sized audiences across the country, and media outlets including Dr. Phil, Good Morning America, Life Today, The Learning Channel and The Billy Graham Television Special.

Jennifer is an avid listener of audio books, a C.S. Lewis junkie, and has a weakness for dark chocolate and robust coffee. She and her Dr. Phil live in Springfield, Missouri, and have two sons Connor and Clayton and a lovely daughter-in-law, Caroline. When she is not traveling, Jennifer enjoys nature walks, and riding a bicycle built for two.

I learned the 23rd Psalm as a child and have quoted it many days of my life since. I will never look at it the same after this study, it is so much more than I ever thought. Through this study we learn the importance of breaking scripture down and actually studying it word for word instead of just reading it. My Shepherd is so much more than I ever imagined! I loved this study and I highly recommend it! This makes my favorite list for 2019.

This is my favorite Bible study ever! I loved it so much the first time that I asked my pastor if I could lead it with a few ladies from my church this second time — and I didn’t consider myself a leader!

I really enjoyed this Bible study, digging deep into each of the six verses of Psalm 23, one verse a week. You can even go through the study without watching the videos for the Group Session days, though all those were really great messages, too.

The Lord used this study to confirm that I really did hear His voice telling me to step out in ministry and that as His sheep, I really do know His voice. “Your Shepherd wants to lead you to green pastures not just to bless and minister to you but so He can bless others and minister to others through you” (p. 61).

I absolutely loved the organization and the format of this study! Each day is clearly marked, each verse is clearly quoted before each week starts, and there is plenty of space to answer the questions and journal in the book, which I loved! I know some of the ladies in my study did not enjoy the questions that asked them to draw/doodle something, but I love to Bible journal anyway, so that was really fun for me.

As for favorite quotes, that would probably take up 5 pages! So I'll try to pare it down to some of my absolute favs:

Favorite quotes:
“The LORD is mine! My light, my rock, my portion, my shepherd. Mine.” (p.14)

“Sheep don't have daily planners.” (p.28)

“We will only lack what we don't need. We will never lack what we do need.” (p.31)

“Sheep have one responsibility, and it's not to find the green pasture and still waters. Their one and only responsibility is to obey and follow their shepherd.” (p.50)

“He picks the path, He determines the pace, and He will carry the weight of the journey.” (p.54)

“Shepherd choose and purchase their sheep.” (p.79)

“Sometimes the shepherd has to lead his sheep through tight places and rough terrain to get them where the pastures are better.” (p.99)

“The condition of the sheep is a reflection of the Shepherd.” (p.102)

“Don't 'camp out': Valleys are passages that take you from where you are to where you are going.” (p.115)

“Fear focuses on the shadows. Faith focuses on the Shepherd. Faith sees only the dark of the valley. Faith sees the light of the Shepherd.” (p.120)

“The fruit of the Spirit is always on the menu.” (p.169)

I think of them [goodness and mercy] like anxious sheepdogs, panting with excitement and ready to follow me, an easily-rattled sheep, nudging me forward. It's like I can't get out the door without them on my heels.” (p.179)

(I received this book for free as a study leader with Proverbs 31. The decision to write a review, as well as the opinions expressed in it, are all my own. I was not compensated for this review.)

A friend recommended this as a very healing study and she was absolutely correct. Full of truth, love, and hope. It's broken up into content 5 days/week. Some of the days were way too full, so I took my time, sometimes spending 3 days on 1 day of the study. Well worth it.

This was my second time reading this book. It is so insightful and inspiring! I obviously love this book, since I went through it twice. Psalm 23 is one we all know well. Yet there is so much depth we might miss, if we don’t stop and ponder. This book really helps us dig down and find how awesome our Shepherd is. The book is intended to be done as a Bible Study with videos from Lifeway. If you do not have access to the videos, this book is still outstanding without them. Only a small portion of the content is related to the videos. Also it is intended to be completed in 6 weeks, 1 week for each verse. If you have a busy schedule, it will take longer. But it is still worth it. I highly recommend this book!

I loved this Bible study! God is our protector and we have to only lean on him and follow him for all our needs. He sings songs of deliverance over His own. He leads us to tranquility beside still waters.
I highly recommend this study

I loved her use of scripture. I wasn't a huge fan of her writing style, but it was overall a nice study.

Psalm 23 is pretty much found everywhere. I remember having to memorize the psalm for my third grade Sunday school class. Rote memorization has its benefits, but so does understanding what is is you’re memorizing. Rothschild’s study takes you there! She takes this widely known psalm and unearths David’s poetry. As an English major and teacher, I enjoyed this literary journey in analyzing a very deep and heartfelt poem that today’s society has commercialized. Rothschild dusts off the glitz and glam and has you study tense, word meaning, and God’s connections throughout His Word. I will do this study again someday (and I’m sure multiple times). This study has layers that I’m sure I missed, and every new life experience will affect how you see Psalm 23.

Amazing! I did this study with Proverbs 31 online ministry. It is a seven week video based study. Jennifer didn't plan to write this study. She lost her work on her other study. This breaks down each verse of Psalm 23 with a deep explanation. Four days of study, for each verse, and day five is a "green pasture day" to rest and digest. I was meant to do this study and almost feel as if it was made for me. I was in a deep valley in my life. This taught me that my valley is not forever. I must learn to change my attitude and learn to thrive. Goodness and mercy follow me and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever!

Excellent study! Wow, Jennifer share so much through those 6 little verses and the one short passage of Psalm 23! God has so much for us in each Word of His Scriptures!! I learned so much about the Shepherd and about the Sheep, Me! Such a beautiful passage and a study that shares all that God is to His Children!

Wonderful Bible study material. Loved that Rothschild broke down Psalm 23 into 6 weeks of detailed study.

Psalm 23 is a familiar passage in the Bible. Jennifer Rothschild takes a detailed look at the six verses that comprise this chapter. I found the study incredibly encouraging and nurturing.

I really enjoyed the first several chapters of this wonderful bible study and the videos by Jennifer Rothschild were outstanding. However, as I went through the 6 verses of Psalm 23 I felt there was a lot of repetition. Perhaps it was just me. My dear husband was preparing for surgery and then in recovery after so it was harder for me to focus my entire attention on the last couple of chapters. I would, however, recommend this book to anyone who wants to become more familiar with one of the most famous of the Psalms.

This was my first study with Jennifer Rothschild. I had no idea what to expect. I found her DVD lecture series nice and calm, with hints of laughter. I very much appreciated this as sometimes the lecture DVDs in Bible studies can be very intense. However, her lectures were calm. This calmness did not mean that the lectures were devoid of scriptural meat. No, there was plenty of that in there as well!

The book work was nice and easy to follow. I like how this study dug deep into the Scripture.

I only gave this study three stars on Goodreads. You may find this odd considering I gave the study a favorable review. You see, although I did not care for the style of this study, and although I did not grow much from his study, I think the study is well worth the time. For me personally, I did not grow much from the study, but that is because my growth in this particular area has happened recently already.

However, that does not take away from the study itself. For someone who hasn’t learned these concepts, or experienced them (gone through them and come out on the other side), this study will be immensely beneficial. Mrs. Rothschild’s thought processes are easy to follow and packed full of benefit.

The study was a good reminder for me, but can be transformational for others.

I can only rate things based on my experience. However, I believe that for those that have not traversed these roads before, or need clarity to see through them, will rate this study with five stars. So, it comes recommended!

Most Bible studies these days tend to veer away from scripture, and the scripture that is tackled is done so superficially as to leave you not understanding afterwards any more than you did beforehand.

Psalm 23 is a small chapter in the Psalms, with BIG impact. Ms. Rothschild has devoted 7 sessions to this study. With one chapter per verse after the introductory chapter. You get to spend one whole week on each verse, and that's plenty of time to camp on, digest, and extrapolate the meaning behind each verse. I absolutely loved this study. I recommend it to everyone.

When my Bible Study group wanted to pick an "easy" study, I thought that surely the first long passage of scripture I'd ever memorized couldn't hold too many secrets, but I was wrong. This was comforting in so many ways I never expected.

This study was the 2nd bible study I have done on psalm 23. It was a great study. As she takes each verse apart and goes in depth with each verse, you can understand how our Lord is with us in every season of our lives.

Psalm 23 is such a well known passage. I was very familiar with it before this study, but I was enthralled by how deep Jennifer was able to go. For being a passage of only 6 little verses, she helps us see how it all points this amazing relationship God wants for us between our loving Shepherd and ourselves.

I adore Jennifer Rothschild's writing style and the way she connects with you as a friend. Even though she is the one teaching, I still feel like we're on the journey of digging into scripture together.

This Bible study helped me to truly accept that love and care that the Lord has for me. Right in the middle of this study I got a life altering/life threatening diagnosis. But all in God's timing, I was in the week of studying verse 5. And indeed, my cup ran over with so much joy.

I highly recommend this study to anyone who is looking to deepen their relationship with their Savior or who might be getting to know Him for the first time.
This is wonderful for people who may be going through hardships, anxiety or a problems with needing to control things. By the end of this study I was sitting in a place of such trust and safety in the Lord's sovereignty and His love for me, I could face the scary, uncertain future with true joy.

I memorized Psalm 23 years ago as part of lessons to meditate. Repeating it has brought me great calm in not so calm situations often. I studied it in depth years ago, and of I'm honest thought there wasn't much I'd learn from Mrs. Rothschild's book. But I like her studies, and they were offering the accompanying videos for free, so I took the chance. So glad I did. I learned way more than I knew before. I really got the intimacy of this Psalm. And I learned there is always more to learn. The study spends one week on each of the 6 verses. I highly recommend it.

One of the best bible studies our group has done and we’ve finished many. Jennifer Rothschild, blind since her late teens, is inspiring and a joy to watch on DVD. She is very knowledgeable biblically and shared such great insight on even a “simple” passage like Psalm 23. Dissecting this psalm verse by verse over 6 weeks was incredible. Learning the actual parts behind The Lord is my Shepherd, green pastures and the rod and staff...this will stick with me for a long time.
Excellent ladies study.

I really liked the lessons and insights in this book as well as the videos that accompanied it. My only complaint was the abundance of what seemed like busywork to me sometimes. I know it was there to help us dig deeper into things, but it was often hard to make time to cross reference 10 to 15 verses a day while reading and thinking on the rest of it. Definitely recommend though, this was a good one and Jennifer seems so sweet and amiable. I would just take it a little slower than a chapter a week.

I feel in love with Psalms 23 as a child. My sister was killed in a bus accident at the age of 13. The first two verses of Psalms 23 was “accidentally” placed on her headstone. We later visited the accident site and the first two verses described it. There was green grass with cows grazing and still waters behind. It was a beautiful sight. This book gave me insight to know more about sheep and our shepherd. I love how he guides and protects us and will always come get us if we get lost. This book explains how well Jesus loves us and I love that.

Wow what an awesome enlightening Bible study. Jennifer takes 6 simple verses and unpacks such wisdom and insights. I will never look at Psalm 23 the same. I was away from this study challenged, encouraged, and a new perspective. My Shepherd is truly all I need. You can complete this Bible study without the videos. But I will say the videos will add to your learning. And Jennifer is such a good teacher. You cannot help but be inspired.

This is one of the best Bible studies I have ever done in the past 30-40 years. Getting to spend a week on each verse is priceless as it allows you to go deep and word by word. It's always been a special psalm to me, invoking peace as I would speak it to myself just before I would do my gymnastic routines in college competitions, but this study has made it even more precious to me than I ever thought possible.

Absolutely amazing and thought-provoking! She really takes you in depth with each verse and provides valuable insight to a common psalm. The way she teaches about who David really was is definitely worth it! Make sure to get the accompanying videos available through Lifeway.com! I just 😍 Jennifer! This is one of the best studies I have ever done. It also happened to be the one that we started before COVID-19, and it sustained us through those first seven weeks of school closures, business restrictions, stay-at-home and shelter-in-place orders. What amazing and perfect grace we were given for such a crazy time of uncertainty!

Great book on this beautiful Psalm. Read and did the study with P31 Ministries, and now will study it again with a friend who will be leading women through the study. Jennifer does an amazing job of breaking down this book in the bible to help you better understand how it relates to the Lord. Five Stars!

Excellent. I love Jennifer's fun and authentic style of writing. This study was so meaningful and gives a whole new perspective to Psalm 23. It's not just applicable at funerals (that's the only time I ever heard this Psalm) . But David wrote it to apply to our entire life journey with the great shepherd who always walks with us and leads us.

I loved the layout of this Bible study. Jennifer Rothschild’s style of writing really had me reflecting on Psalm 23 and how to dig deep and unpack the Psalm. I loved her style of teaching that she brought to the study, including drawing out each of the verses. I hope to dive into another one of her Bible studies soon!

I loved this study!! Digging deep into all the word meanings really made this word nerd happy. Understanding word by word how God is our Shepherd and we are His sheep, how He never leaves us (even in the valleys) and how we will have eternal life with Him in Heaven.
