Sharon Dunn really does seem to be a hit or miss author with me.

This was miss.

I am exactly 50% of the way through the book (I think) and I just realized I should stop trying to read it when I caught myself rolling my eyes at this EXACT point:

He rushed toward her and gathered her into his arms. The thought of her being in danger, of losing her, had been like a blow to the stomach for him.

It was a blow to the stomach reading that line, and I just ate breakfast so that's dangerous to do. Bad joke. It did make me roll my eyes though. Why? Cause these two people have known each other for...2 days. TWO DAYS!!! He's not doing anything to actually get her out of trouble. In fact, he's hauling her around instead as he investigates (or lack there of) instead of calling in the DEA or whoever to swoop in and collect her in the night to keep her from the apparent head honcho of a drug ring.

Not only that, but these two have been constantly attacked. they've had a car crash and a guy with a rifle after him. I'm thinking he didn't align his scope because he couldn't hit a thing... Then we have constant run ins with people with handguns. Do you think they could hit them??? Nope. When I really started getting frustrated was when the shooter managed to shoot a phone out of Joseph's hand, but couldn't hit him. Can we have some realism, please?

Continuing was my desire for realism...I think they've had roughly 3 meals in 2 days, but heck, they're doing long distance running, a ton of swimming, and some trail riding on bikes like pros. Does this woman train for Iron Man competitions on the side that we don't know about??? What about the cop? Nope. All we know is every now and then they 'feel tired' but that's about it.

If I had been doing what they were doing, I would have tapped out at the car crash. Hitting a hay bale after rolling down a hill with no brakes...and no airbags? My neck wouldn't take that well. But they are barely even phased. They run through the field and hide behind cows who apparently don't run away when strange people run towards them. They all must be 4H cows...cows generally don't hang around strange people. I digress (getting off topic). Their muscle don't scream with fatigue and stay stiff and sore. They just keep going, going going!

And another thing, if I was Sierra, I'd want as far away from that guy as possible, not observing how attractive I find him. Pretty sure I'd be more concerned about the bullets that can't seem to hit people, but can hit everything around them. As for Joseph...he's a cop. She's a witness. He should know how inappropriate that is. Not only that, but he works undercover. Going to give that all up for her? (Probably, but I'm not reading to the end to find out).

Short version of what I just said: This book is unrealistic.

This book was exhausting. The characters never get break, and neither does the reader; action is ALWAYS happening. Add super unrealistic thoughts and events -- swimming and running vast distances over rough terrain while shot or injured and questioning whether or not they love each other while barely escaping with their lives -- and this book is done. I did appreciate the author note at the end, but that was about the only redeeming aspect of this book.

Easy reading suspense novels from Harlequin. An undercover DEA agent and a local woman who tries to help local youth quit drugs join forces to wipe out the drug suppliers.

Lots of excitement in this book, Sierra and Joseph were chased and shot at so many times that I lost count. A good read.
