It’s easy to say we trust Christ for everything, but are we living that truth? We’ve been given clear instruction in a powerful promise for parents. God tells us in Deuteronomy to “teach our children diligently.” This passage and many others give us great insight as to how to do that and enjoy the promised blessing that always accompanies the mandates we are given.
Learn the practical view of discipleship parenting, what God expects from parents, and how to put these truths into action See how parenting with the vision of teaching them diligently will intentionally bear fruit and affect change in your own life as well Move beyond giving lip-service to what you believe, and make the conscious choice to rely on the wisdom of God’s holy instruction for your life and parenting. So, why are we as Christian parents still uncertain? Why do we live in fear? Why are we losing our children in record numbers? What can we do about it?
LESLIE NUNNERY is the cofounder of Teach Them Diligently Convention along with her husband David. There are six TTD conventions nationwide with up to 10,000 attending per event. God has given her a strong burden to minister to Christian families to help support, encourage and equip them to disciple their children, protect their marriages, and serve God in the ways He has planned for them.
I picked up Teach Them Diligently to review as a resource for the young moms in my church. However, I quickly discovered that it’s a great resource for moms of all ages, including this one! Leslie Nunnery writes in a way that you feel like you’re sitting down with a good friend who wants to encourage and edify you along the way. This book gives you biblical wisdom on each page, practical ideas, a reminder of the call to battle for the hearts of our children, and the importance of discipleship in the home! I highly recommend picking up a copy.
I have so many books going at the same time right now, that I wasn't able to finish Teach Them Diligently the first time I borrowed the ebook on Hoopla. I chose it because a FB group I belonged to was going to discuss it. Apparently, that never happened, but since I had used one of my five borrows for October on it, I decided to read it. It was good enough, that I tried to read it slowly and thoroughly, which meant I didn't complete it. I even used one of my November borrows on it! It was good enough to borrow it twice!
Leslie Nunnery wrote, not exactly like a friend over coffee, but more as a long distance mentor and encourager. I appreciated that, because I don't love some of the overly friendly, chatty books I've read over the years unless I am very familiar through a blog with that author and her style. Certainly. as a homeschooler, I have heard of the TTD conventions and thought this book would be directed toward homeschooling moms of littles. This book is not written just to homeschoolers, but to all moms.
There is a plethora of Bible verses throughout Teach Them Diligently. Only the King James version is used, which I don't mind, but am not a King James Only bible reader. Several times I looked up the verses in other versions. I did not find a single verse that seemed to be taken out of context or did not relate to the chapter in which it was included.
The segments for reflection at the end of each chapter were very helpful and I made sure to read and note each one so that I can continue to use the ideas for prayer and personal contemplation.
A couple of years back I learned about the Teach Then Diligently homeschool conferences that are held at various locations in the USA, and I met Leslie Nunnery at one of them. When I found out that she had written a book on with the same title, I knew I had to get it.
Sure enough, this book, published by Master Books, does not disappoint. The first thing that impressed me is that most of the Scripture in her book is from the King James Version of the Bible. The second thing that impressed me, and it goes right along with that, is the fact that she uses a lot of Scripture in the book. This is important to every parent. God's Word is sufficient for us to know how to raise our children correctly.
Mrs. Nunnery does a fine job using examples from Scriptures, particularly the Old Testament passages which command us to teach and to train, as well as those examples we find from those saints who have gone on before us. The author not only does a great job of expounding on these passages but also defining key words.
She also uses examples from her own experience, which I thought was a great touch and very helpful since she and her husband are parents of four children ranging in ages from 11-18.
The chapters are short and to the point, which makes the book easy to read for any parent but the content is deep and the material is full of Biblical advice. I give this book five out of five stars and recommend it highly!
Looking for a fine example of diligent and intentional Christian parenting advice? Leslie Nunnery's book, Teach Them Diligently, does not disappoint. This book provides a Biblical example of how and why we should raise up our children as Christ following, God loving individuals. The foundation and theme of this parenting book focuses on the Bible's instruction found in Deuteronomy 6:7
"These words, which I am commanding you today, shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your sons and shall talk of them when you sit in your house and when you walk by the way and when you lie down and when you rise up." 6:6-7 NASB
Leslie points out that we need to set our children on a path that we do not put roadblocks on. By following our calling provided in Scripture, God will keep his promises for our children's lives.
This book is very easy to read, with relatable stories and insightful guidance. Each chapter ends with intuitive, self-reflection questions and prayer. The devotionals at the end of teach chapter encourages further thought and reflection. All Scripture references through the chapters reflect the "teach them diligently" thought throughout the book.
A beautifully gentle and thoroughly scriptural approach to parenting. The Bible truly is our instruction manual for parenting! Leslie Nunnery encourages and inspires biblical parenting in this quick read. I recommend for all.
I appreciated the reminders of God’s direction and promises. Nancy is very uplifting and encouraging throughout this book and never seems condescending. I will be rereading it from time to time.
This book is excellent! I found it convicting... with lots of hope mixed in. 💙💚💛 It is an honor and privilege to be a parent. I am encouraged to be reminded of that.
I'm not sure if I just had high expectations for this book but it was hard to get through especially chapters 1-8. In chapters 9-15 there were some good nuggets.
