This morning, Los Angeles high school teacher Mia Keys woke up believing it would be a day like every other - safe, yet predictable. She was wrong.
After her fiancé is kidnapped by a callous Argentine crime-family, Mia Keys embarks on a journey that takes her thousands of miles away from the comforts of her Pacific Coast living to the disadvantaged slums of Rosario, Argentina where she is forced to turn into the weapon she had tried so desperately not to become.

One of my favorite authors, Toni Morrison, once said, "If there is a book that you want to read, but it hasn't been written yet, you must be the one to write it."
I took that advice to heart.
While wrapping up an entirely different novel about four friends in Chicago, Mia Keys found her way into my mind, relentlessly knocking on door of my subconscious until I inevitably let her in. The story she shared with me was one that HAD to be told. She nor I would have it any other way. While Mia is indeed a mysterious physical force to be reckoned with, she is still very much soft, vulnerable, and in pursuit of what so many of us want out of life: love and happiness. Unfortunately for her, secrets from both her past and that of her fiancé threaten to derail that.
It is with this great joy that I present Mia Keys to you all. Not often enough are we presented with STRONG, INTELLIGENT, and SUCCESSFUL women of color, and I wanted to be a part of that change.
Thank you ALL for the support. If you haven't already, please introduce your friends and fellow bookworms to Mia Keys!
I want to first thank the author for recommending this book to me. It was a very action packed novel full of surprises and twists, I can imagine this book becoming a movie providing if the producers make the contents come to life. Strong protagonist in the book, I definitely wanted her to prevail in the end, it made the book really intriguing and interesting. I would say that this did meet my expectations which is hard to do considering how picky I am with thrillers. The character Maria reminded me of Tomb raider for some reason, she was such a badass!
It seems like there are is more to the story so I may go read the other ones..It ended in a cliffhanger so I want to see what happens next to these characters.
i came across this book on instagram and once i started it i was wanted more. i was hoping it wouldn’t end because there are some crazy twists in the story and Mia is for sure bad ass. even though it ended short but sweet, i am so glad it was only an introduction to Mia’s life and there will be more of her to come.
updated review since i reread it:
I had to reread this good one in order to prepare for the The Enemy She Knows. Mia is a high school teacher who happens to pay very close attention to the little details. After school, she is told her fiancé has been kidnapped and so she flies to Rosario, Argentina to find him ..... The man who encounters Mia to tell her of her the change in her fiancés life is Levi (part of the Cordero’s family) , a well dressed man who can’t keep his lies straight. Mia tales notices of the little things as they travel to Rosario. Mia slowly discovers her husband really is and even though shocked, Mia loves him and will literally fight to get him back. She may be a high school teacher, but she has hidden secrets as well *evil laugh* ....
P.S. I want to know more about Mia’s father Paul Keys and her fiancé Alejandro’s childhood.
"ROSARIO" is a fast-paced well written thriller that certainly grabbed my attention. The Cordero crime family made a big mistake when they messed with Mia Keys! Mia is a teacher and is engaged to her boyfriend Alejandro. When he is kidnapped by the Corderos and kept prisoner in Argentina, she finds herself on quite the dangerous adventure. I was left wanting more and I'm glad there will be a sequel! Highly recommended.
Oh yeah! This was gripping! I was intending to just read a few pages, and finish once I got home. But noooo... I was immediately intrigued by the story line, and once that happens it's hard to put a good book down. Mia is a BAAD girl. I fell in love with her strong will, and willingness to be unapologetically fierce!! I am eagerly awaiting the next installment. Well written J. Kenyarta!!!
Read this story! Action, Suspense, Total Bad Ass Heroine, -- check, check and double check!
After a long day at work, Mia Keys is waylaid by a stranger, brandishing her lost wallet. The stranger knows more about her than the contents of her wallet reveal. The stranger gives her an ultimatum, drop everything and come with him to save the life of her fiance, Alejandro. What's a girl to do? For Mia -- it's GAME ON! Kidnapping her fiance was their first mistake, giving her ultimatums was their !
Very Highly Recommended!
The action doesn't stop with this story, be sure to read The Enemy She Knows (Book 2).
I would give this book an almost four. Mia Keys is a school teacher. On her way to her car she is stopped and informed she has to go to South America right now with a mysterious man. All she has been told is her boyfriend is kidnapped and in danger. She is flown 6000 miles away to learn she has to cooperate with these people to keep her boyfriend alive. I liked the part that Mia has some surprises of her own. Does she rescue her fiancé? Why was she flown down in the first place? The book ends in a cliffhanger. Don't want to give any spoilers so I will stop her. For those who enjoy crime and some suspense this book keeps you reading to find out the ending.
The story gripped me from the start. The story jumped out of the gate and I was ready for the thrill the synopsis insinuated. We would have the pleasure to experience a thrill a minute. Mia was not whom she presented as initially. You'll need to a wait for the drama to ensue to get her full persona. The story was great. I'm ready to see how Mia will handle the next challenge...
In reading the excerpt I expected Mia to be homely and just out of the blue get called to save her fiancé. I'm happy I was wrong. Mia is bad ass! She is not only physically strong, she is skilled and a mental assassin. The story didn't drag on. There definitely was action. I cannot wait for book 2. I want to know what happened between her and the previous boyfriend.
This book is short, sweet and to the point. I loved it and I don’t know what took me so long to read it. Mia is immediately like-able and real. It’s like a short story and ends with to be continued...
I’m ready for the rest! J is a great writer and has the ability to keep you engaged. I did not want this to end. More on this is forthcoming!
It was a quick read. Lots of unanswered questions that I'm sure will be answered in the second book. Really admired the heroine she's strong, confident and sly ha. Would have been nice to get some more details in the way she took care of those two men at the airstrip. Anywho this was a nice book. I'd recommend it as long as you're into a quick trill
This is not a book I would normally be interested in but when the author personally reached out to me, I said sure! Mia is a mysterious, complex character. Part school teacher, marital artist, special agent?!? Definitely fearless and loyal. The fast pace of this short novel is just enough to whet your appetite for more. Look forward to the series!
Mia was a real badass. Fearless, fierce, and courageous. She was also smart and had a keen ability to read people. I wanted to know more about her. How did she choose her job because she was skilled at other things. This story briefly touched on the dynamic she had with her father and even her Ex and left me eager to read the next book.
1st read by this author. Well writen short with good characters & an interesting twist. Storyline held my attention as Mia's various talents were shown throughout. Looking forward to reading next part.
I enjoyed this read but why so many open ends? No real background on why Mia appears to be undercover or the other shadiness that's apparently going on.. I am hoping this is the set up to a series. Come thru with part 2.. I am waiting.
OMG!!!! This book was amazing. I don't know if I would have chose it if I had not been invited to read "The Enemy She Knows" (I like to read series in the order they are written). I was not disappointed in this thriller! It was fast past and kept me on the edge of my seat. So many twists and turns. It only took me a little bit of time to read it, but there was so much action packed into it that I was exhausted! :) Mia was a refreshing surprise. I am so excited to get into "The Enemy She Knows". I look forward to seeing where Mia takes us. J. Kenyarta job well done!
A fast paced read that will take you on a journey. A school teacher finds her fiancée kidnapped by an Argentina criminal family as she seeks to find him in a world where she is not used to as poverty and slums surround her.

"Rosario" by J. Kenyarta
My Thoughts......
I loved this quick short read about this strong female heroine Mia Priscilla Keys who was strong, fearless, powerful, smart and oh so confident. This skillfully written read will keep you intrigued as you are turning the first page to the ending. Be ready for a lots of secrets, action, suspense with some kicking ass moments as we see this teacher [Mia] who also had quite another big surprise about her. Since this is left a cliffhanger I look forward to how Mia will handle Gianna along with many unanswered questions in this next read. This was my first read by this author and it certainly will not be my last!
Such a fast read and a great book too! Love how Mia is brought out as this fierce, smart and spicy woman. It ended too fast! I wanted it to go on. Sequel maybe?
This book was a good read. Although it seemed a little rushed and could have given more detail and had me a little confused at the beginning of the book of how Levi a supposedly friend of Mia Fiancé gets her wallet after she was under the assumption it was stolen in her classroom by a student. Levi turns out to not be whom he say he is and Mia has to use the training her dad taught her to survive. Mia is not only a smart women she has many trades. I would read Pt 2 just to see how she takes on Gianna. Keep up the good work.
I was happy 😊 & surprised when J. Kenyarta reached out to me to read this book. This book's storyline was really good. This story had the right amount of action in it. I really enjoyed the action in this story. I loved ❤ Mia's character. I loved ❤ Mia's toughness. I really liked the ending. This was a really good, short story to read. I can't wait to read more of Mia.
On the outward appearance, Mia Keyes was a mild mannered teacher who abhorred violence. There were secrets she and her fiance Alejandro were keeping from each other that revealed themselves with a bang. Mia turned out to be more of a challenge than the Cordero family anticipated. She could handle her own self defense with no problem at all.
This short story, J. Kenyarta wrote was an action packed suspense story that definitely held my attention. I hate cliffhangers but this story ended with enough of the story being resolved that did not leave me hanging. There was enough of a tease to make me want to read any future additions to the story. I love reading about strong female characters and suspense fits the bill. I want to see how she will handle Gianna and I also want to know what happened to her father. Get to writing J. Kenyarta!
This book is very well written for starters! I really can't ask for much more theirs nothing like a well written book. J. Kenyarta to be new author your amazing😀 As for the famous cliffhanger everyone is talking about in their reviews... it's was much needed to continue to another book. Although this was a short read it really didn't feel like it. Lol This book holds your attention from beginning to end. Amazing Mia... at first I didn't see this book ending like it did with Mia being so strong and mighty. "First impressions." I have Feeling her dad is mixed in this as well some how and a feel Alejandro is not going to be who she expects him to be, but that's my opinion. I did guess that Gianna was in that house somewhere hiding. I figured Levi was corrupted as well. I just don't trust any Levi, sorry I've dated one, and he messed it up for all of them lmao😂 So I'm on pins and needles until the next book😬😱

I no doubt am a follower of Mia Keys. Like the energy you get when one watches a tv show like POWER CSI LUKE Cage always yearning for more, never wanting the adventure to end ROSARIO has me in the mind set. Started reading this at 4am the other morning and kept having to stop b/c I had to remind myself I was at work. Even when at home when I should have been sleep I kept wanting to read. Each chapter is a major scene and it defined so well. If it had not be for a few glitches with typos and literature I Would have given this 5stars. I am looking forward to part 2. J. Kenyarta has me as a fan.
This book was full of action and ass kicking moments. I really enjoyed Mia’s character. She started off as this unassuming teacher who turned out to be a hard core fighter, stopping at nothing to save her family. This is one of those books I would love to see become a full length novel because I really enjoyed Mia’s character and her past story left so much to build on. I would have loved to get to read more about Alejandro too.
This was a great read. This story is a page turner. It is filled with lies, deceit, some jealousy and most importantly it shows someone wanting power I will play on any theme to get just that. Great job to the author. Will definitely recommend this book.
