Jennifer realised her passion for skin health when she was brought for her first facial by her mother at the tender age of thirteen. After years of working as a skin therapist, lecturing worldwide and being the brand ambassador for multiple cosmeceutical skincare brands, she became The Skin Nerd, using social media to get skinformation out there, sometimes through the medium of song.Nowadays, you'll find her standing at the helm of The Skin Nerd HQ, on television, in the pages of well-known publications and speaking on the radio. Her end goal is to put as many people as possible on the road to skin health.
I wasn't new to the Skincare world but I loved the Skin nerd! I particularly liked how 30% of the book is about nutrition and it's discussed already at the very beginning of the book.
I really liked how Jennifer tackled the different topics through a multitude of angles: Skin Types, Conditions, Ingredients, etc. Makes it really easy for you to understand where your skin is and what ingredients would work for you. Also makes it extremely easy to go back to, in case of future concerns. Do you need to understand your skin type and how to build a routine? Chapter 5. Do you need to know what this ingredient can do you for you? Chapter 10. And so on.
I did not like though her recommendation of Collagen supplements whose effectiveness is still not fully proven and what's more, in some instances could even carry diseases (depending on the quality). I expected her to be more upfront and honest with regards to this topic.
Interesting but I already knew a lot of the information. But this would be great for beginners as there was just the right amount of information and explanations!
I haven’t used Jennifer Rock online skin consultation service but I’m following her on FB where I like to read her skin care advice and watch her informative videos. Also I’m reading the tips she uploads on her website and find them useful. That’s why when I heard about her new book being released in September I pre ordered it in August. I just couldn’t resist, it’s a book after all and I’m a book addict…I can’t help it.
In the book you can find information about the different skin types and how to find out which is yours. How to treat your skin right according to its condition, more details about the most important skin ingredients, you can even find out the specific products she recommended for you to use.
I think that we often underestimate the condition of our skin and we used to forget that “the skin is an organ” and we have to “respect it accordingly”. Having this book makes me aware of my skin needs and I’m one step closer to have my skin healthy.
Huh. This rather let me down .. somehow I expected more from this? I ended up skimming most of it, probably also because I already know A LOT (I am a state-certified esthetician after all lol) I really liked the sample routines. I don‘t like when people who aren‘t actual health workers recommend supplements without getting blood testing done first. It‘s irresponsible. I believe that, if you don‘t show a visible lack of certain minerals, vitamins etc you don’t have to take supplements (I used to think differently) Especially in the beauty industry it‘s usually a marketing thing to sell supplements .. but again, if you don‘t have a visible lack of xy, why supplement it? There‘s a point where it gets too much, too. It just sits very wrong with me if people recommend supplements willy-nilly .. Also, I feel like my copy had a lot of spelling and continuity which always irritates me.
I love Jennifer rock, her sense of humour. She makes listening about skin interesting and I wanted to learn more. I hate giving bad reviews, however this book was boring. I thought it would have her sense of humour throughout. I hoped it would be an easy but interesting read. This had none of that. I wanted hints and tips, recommendations for certain skin types, (it did have a few), however it was too intense, too scientific I thought. To be honest I learnt more from Pippa O'Connors book that had one chapter about skin than I did with this book. If I had to go back in time, would I repurchase? No, I wouldn't. Sorry Jennifer.
This was a labour of love. Quite an encyclopedia of skin care and I loved it! Definitely has improved my skin and my treatment of my skin... It's an organ ya know!
I preferred this book over Rock’s other book on skincare. This felt more like a textbook. And there was less promotion of products. But had some good recommendations of brands and products.
If you regularly see a cosmetologist this book will be interesting---it gives a peek into the world of cosmetology and treatments by a personable writer, who's fun to boot. And if you've never, you'll perhaps acquire new understanding about the field from a fiery, experienced practitioner. Author Jennifer Rock describes the entire process of beautifying skin in the most currently accepted and desired ways. But she also discusses the impact of diet and lifestyle, and offers her advice in these areas. I really liked the section on K-beauty and her reaction to visiting a Japanese company to discover what it is all about.
