Hidden Witness #1

Hidden Witness

Rate this book

I witnessed a murder. I’ve been in hiding for 14 years.

Starting over isn’t easy. I'm ready to kill at a moment’s notice.
My name is Dillon Magarelli. New Jersey's mob boss was supposed to be my title, not construction boss.
In Oregon, my name is Jeff Westbrook.
Building a successful construction company was hard work.
My wife wasn’t happy with the money I made. Her family is rich. She never had to struggle.
Before I started over, I never had to struggle either.

Lindsay only cared about having her needs met by the Grammy award winning singer Blake Schafer.
Finding my wife in his arms I snapped, wrapping my hands around his neck.
That was the day my marriage came to an end.
My only concern was our two children.
My heart turned into stone. No plans of finding love, again.

Standing in the checkout line at the grocery store a beautiful woman captured my attention.
I hadn’t felt my heart skip a beat like that in years.
I admit, at first glance, all I could think about was kissing those sweet lips.
A broken man like me doesn’t care about one-night stands. And love is not a factor in my life.
Sierra is broken, too. Her husband Jeremy Crawford, Super bowl Champ, betrayed her.
Sierra’s main focus is also her two children.
She’s ready for a second chance at love. I’m not sure I am.
But Sierra has a way of flashing those heather gray eyes and that gorgeous smile. She’s invested in me.
Sierra is trying to heal my heart. Can I love again?

Not bad

When I first started reading this book I was disappointed. In many ways I still am. I was expecting a bwwm novel but that was not what I got. The description of Sierra is not that of a bw. However, I am not surprised. That seems to be the theme of most of these books. Advertised as bwwm but the description of the bw is anything but. Big let down. This was my first time (I think) reading this author. And once I finished the book, I was left thinking this might be one of the last times I read this authors work. I was not expecting a cliffhanger. Another big let down. I dnt like them and had I realized this was a cliffhanger, I would not have gotten this book. This book, is actually rated 2.5 stars by me. Why? Bc I didn't like being deceived by the book advertisement and description. This is not a bwwm book (in my opinion)and the fact that it is a cliffhanger is like a double wammy in a bad way. The book was interesting and did hold my attention. Once I got over the fact the bw is not really black. I'm a fan of bwwm books and I am always let down and disappointed when the authors call the "black" woman black. After describing a woman of another ethnicity and then giving the "black woman" ' a light honey complexion' and labeling it a bwwm romance. Disappointing. Hoeever, that seems to be happening way too often in this genre. As a fan , I'm highly disappointed. When I read a bwwm novel, I expect the description of the bw to be a bw, regardless of complezion. I expect the author to use his or her literary imagination and create a beautiful bw not a women of another ethnicity painted "light honey". Come on! Anywho, I truly think I'm going to stop reading this genre altoghther. More times than not, I dnt get what I pay for. And I usually want my money back. With that being said, overall, not a bad read. However, once I read the 2nd book, I won't be reading anything else by this author nor will I continue to follow this author. I feel like the author deceived me and advertised this as a bwwm book. When in all actualuality it's not. Like I said, overall not a bad read and were it not for the false advertisement I would have rated this book a 3.5, even with it being a cliffhangar. SO Please don't let my bias spoil this for you. If you want to check this book out, please do. Dnt let my issues keep you from reading a decent book.

Not to my liking

I tried to like this book but there was just too much hopping back and forth from the past to the present. I gave up at 15%. The only part of the story that was of interest was Tony and Nadine and I skimmed to see that wasn't resolved.

I really like the book but the back story and flashbacks are confusing and make it hard to understand the flow of the story.

OMG... I hate cliffhangers!

This was soooo good! This was well plotted and written even though it was a little slow in the beginning, it made up for it. I just love how Sierra and Jeff started their relationship by taking it slow and getting to know one another before taking the next step. Jeff Dillon Westbrook aka Dillon Sergio Magarelli, fell for Sierra after divorcing his ex-wife Lindsay but did not know her connections to his past. Sierra, now divorced from her ex husband, quarterback for the Seattle Sea Hawks, was ready to start her life over again away from her philandering husband she married right out of college. She was used to being pampered all her life but rather life on her own terms than putting up with a cheating husband. Jeff felt the same way after he caught his ex cheating as well. He was a broken person after having to sacrifice and hide so much of his life. When he met Sierra at the grocery store, he immediately felt a sense of calm, like he had come home. He wanted more from Sierra but had to gain her trust enough to let him take care of her. Just when everything is going well for them BOOM plot twist. I can't wait for the next book in the series to drop. I want Jeff/ Dillon to get his life back with Sierra.

Get to writing Ms Parks, your fans are anxiously waiting.

Superb!

Hawwwwllllly s****t!!! That was good stuff , I like the different POV's , it help us reader yo the whole picture & how it all tied together,.. Even, though it takes a while to get the real juicy stuff.
I love Jeff aka Dillon, he is the real deal and Sierra, strong, independent woman... I can't wait for them to sniff the life out of Filippo the heartless douchebag.
Jeff/Dillon should have full custody and Lindsay the slut every other weekend... That woman is more concerned about getting laid than raising children, even Jeremy seems a better parent...
That was an excellent read. Don't let us hang too long for book 2 please!!!

OMG

I initially was confused as to why the Author was going back and forth with all the Backstory, but soon it became very clear.
I loved this story Dillon/Jeff is the man. I enjoyed how you see his growth and although he's tough as nails, you know he loves deeply.
This story is filled with intrigue, suspense, twist and turns and a whole lot of Sex.
Loved It!!!

Hard read

Nice plot, just a really really hard flow of writing to follow. It felt like a child wrote it, regarding how the story read. Not gonna follow up with the second book.

The story itself was spectacular. The execution of the story was atrocious.

Too many points of view. This was so unnecessary and annoying. I found myself skipping parts I was uninterested in.

Too many flashbacks. This was especially a point of contention for me. One moment we were in the present. The very next sentence we were in the past with no proper segue or warning. Then we were in the present again. This made the story confusing and seem unorganized.

And to top it off, it ended in a cliffhanger! I seriously hate cliffhangers with a passion.

It really is a great, but aggravating story.

3.5 Cranky Stars

I have a love/hate relationship with this book. It ends on a major cliffhanger, and I will be first in line for the next book to find out what happens next because the story most definitely sucked me in. I realized that I had become much more invested in the characters than I had planned to get - and that is a very good thing. I have found myself really rooting for an HEA for this unlikely couple.

So the loves - I love a good mafia story. ✔️ - lots of mafia involvement, though not typical (which I will give it another ✔️ for originality.). I love a good, action packed thriller. Another ✔️for that - there is plenty going on here. ✔️ For cliffhanger that has me climbing the walls wondering what will happen next/how the author can possibly fix the mess we are left with. There have been plenty of cliffies that have left me at the point of simply not caring, but this one is continuing to haunt me even though I have read several other books since. ✔️ Well developed characters with deep back stories. It helps to understand what makes characters the way they are. Sometimes something that seems irrelevant at the time it is introduced can be crucial later on. I understand that completely, and appreciate it more than most when it comes together - but there are areas related to this that I am still on the fence as to their relevance.

The next issue is a bit harder for me to categorize. I generally really like dual POV's to give a fuller picture. Sometimes a third POV for perspective is great. But at 20% we were at 5 different POV's, and 7 or 8 by the end of the book. I can't say that most of them didn't have a purpose, but it's a bit too much to juggle, in my opinion.

Similarly, coincidence can add a lot to a story line, but too many coincidences are simply too much. I also noticed a continuity error or two that bothered me, and the h's schedule didn't seem to fit with her career. Little things, but enough to take me out of the story. The combination of the little things are what are keeping this from being a 5 star read for me.

But I can't deny the allure of the story line or the fact that I want more, because I definitely do, and the ending will haunt me until the next book is released. It is rare for me to feel so wishy-washy about a review, but I am really struggling with this one. Overall, I want to recommend it but I there are enough issues that I can't give it my highest recommendations.

About 75% of the book could have been left out. I understand character development but that was way too much empty space.

Sierra and Dillion (Jeff) are divorced single parents that meet and fall in love. They both claim they want to take their time but they end up living together 6 months after they meet. Yes, that’s taking your time with children involved. 😒

Dillion doesn’t tell Sierra about his past. Understandable. Throughout the book, Sierra overreacts and I like the fact that Dillion doesn’t put up with that mess. Anyways, on their first date, Sierra storms off because Dillion won’t really open up to her about his past. When he does, she says, “Jeff, you’re scaring me. Why are you telling me this?” WTF?!?! Are you for real...you asked!!!

The grammar errors are hideous. The story jumped from past to present, which isn’t the problem. The problem was too many characters jumping from past to present. Also, it didn’t flow well together. Sometimes I didn’t know who was talking.

I hope the next book is more exciting and put together than this one.

AMAZING!!!

This is another great series from Posey. I've just added Dillon/Jeff to my book boyfriends list, which I'm sure his brother Dominic will be added in as well LOL. This book takes us on the journey of Jeff and Sierra, two individuals that were cheated on by their spouses and now they have to learn how to overcome their insecurities to see if they can be great together. They have a lot of baggage going into a relationship but Jeff won't let Sydney give up on them. They also have the added stresses of dealing with their exes and trying to figure out how to bring their kids together. Just when you think all that is enough Jeff's past comes calling in the most interesting of ways. You simply have to read on to find out all the juicy details, trust me it's good. Highly recommend this book!!!

Spellbinding

Although the past and present was confusing at first it gave the background for the story to flow. Although Dillion/Jeff didn't grow completely up in the life he took away a lot of strengths. Sierra wants what every women wants and was not willing to put up with nothing less. But as always what's in the dark comes to light. Is the collateral damage worth the pain. Waiting on pins and needles for part II.

This was so good that I can read it over and over and never get bored. The writer weaves such an entertaining web of a story that draws you in completely.I love that you get two adults that know what they want in their lives after having experienced heartbreak. This was not only mixed with old fashioned romance but this is sprinkled with mystery and the mob!I so look forward to the next installment.

---SPOILERS-----SPOILERS-----SPOILERS----SPOILERS----

SIERRA:
I will give it to her (Sierra) she did not bend, break, nor did she beg for Jeremy, Her Mother, or her father to help her start over. I am so proud of her.
She made herself a Small Business Owner, invested her money wisely, bought a fixer upper home, and busted her ass to provide for her children/herself.
Her parents ain't shit: HOW do you EXPECT, your child to stay in a marriage, that ain't worth a penny.
*******************************
Jeremy cheating ass ain't shit either.
He tried to break Sierra, too bad he could not break her. He did damage her to a point.
Yes, Sierra asked for the bare minimum, BUT COME TF ON.
He is WORTH MILLIONS and gave her $500,000.00 out of the Divorce Settlement. PURE BS.

Then for her FATHER not to help her (I know he is not obligated to help his Adult Child)
This was just another "Controlling Tactic" he was using against her.
He would rather see her struggling. All because she did not want to follow in his footsteps.
*********************************
JEFF/DILLON:
He was just a teenager - wrong place, wrong time.
He's a good man.
Yet, at the same time, so very BROKEN. Broken, from Lindsay no good ass.
Traumatized - from witnessing his Uncle Mickey's Death, to having to leave his family, and not seeing his Baby Sister.
The first time he caught Lindsay skank ass cheating (IN THE ACT) he should have left her cheating ass.
*********************************
FRANCINE:
I understand why she did what she did. She was protecting her family, her husband, and their lives.
However, she should have let Sergio know what was going on, but I get it. Protect family at all cost.
*************************************
LINDSAY SAWYER:
SPOILED - SELFISH - ENTITLED - USER - TOXIC - NARCCISIST - DYSFUNCTIONAL
CHEATER - LIAR -
Yes, she is a product of her environment and the consequences of the choices of her parents, Blake, and herself. However, she should have left Jeff/Dillon out of her bullshit.
******************************************************
HOW HOW HOW
Jeff/Dillon - he is PAYING Lindsay's mortgage, car note - insurance, child support, Lilly and Dillon's private school tuition, extracurricular activities, AND also have joint custody of Dillon/Lilly.
Make it make sense.
I know he is making sure that his children has the best and not to go without, due to their "mother" is a HOT ASS MESS.
Chasing behind Blake...<----That's KARAMA for that ass.
Jeff/Dillon was good to her and he actually loved her.
Lindsay used him, to get at Blake, to make him jealous.
Then
THEN, she wants to act JEALOUS, because he MOVED ON with his life.
She (Lindsay) is getting over like a fat rat, NEVER having to use any of her own money, or be a mother to her children. Too busy running the streets and running behind Blake.

****************************************
FILIPPO and Leech
He's mad b/c Leech got shot and almost died. So he wants revenge for that BS. To kidnap Sierra.
Talk about being DELUSIONAL .
DID. HE. FORGET. HE. MURDERED. DILLON'S. UNCLE MICKEY.
Murdered Mickey b/c he was in the wrong.

ok, on to Book 2

Grammar, punctuation and sentence structure...DNF at 2%.

I literally could not get past the first chapter. Grammar and punctuation issues abound. The sentences were short and choppy, while commas were omitted or inserted seemingly without care to sentence structure. I am envisioning this book as a self-publish without an editor to gently guide the author through these basic necessities- at least, that’s how it comes across to me. Then there are the missing words within a sentence, and words that no one says anymore (like “amongst”). The ultimate for me is when a book cannot follow simple sentence structure and flow. The author jumps back and forth with this guy’s thoughts; so much within just the first chapter that I feel as if I have whiplash. I understand the need to give a backstory, but PLEASE do it without hopping back and forth almost every other paragraph. It reads like a Tinder bio from a desperate person trying to describe themselves (or a dating site- I don’t know if it’s Tinder-specific since I’ve never been on it. But you get the gist, I hope.)

I read reviews that said this book was good, but if the rest of the chapters are written like this, I’ll pass and just live vicariously through their word.

Self-publishing authors! Please proofread! And then have a few friends who have some knowledge in what an editor does (or proofreaders- they can Google it) do the same and LISTEN to their honest suggestions and make changes. This cycle should happen at LEAST twice before you publish your work.

Sincerely,

Magnificent Read

Oh My! What a awesome story that I have really enjoyed. This is a must reads by this author. This story has strong and brave women and men who will fight for what they consider is theirs. And of course their steamy connections. There are interesting twists along with lots of humor in the story lines; what a fast paced story this is. WOW this is the first time I have read one of this author stories and it's just great and I'm happy that I found reading this author is great I'm a fan. I can say that this book is truly intriguing with a very enjoyable plot and I happy to read another one of her books. The story is full of their sizzling hot passions which will keep you turning pages until the end. I enjoyed every moment of these couples relationship they make it so that I can't put my reader down until I finished the story if you are like myself you will enjoy this story because this is definitely a excellent romance!!.

The story was there but the writing was not. I can get over typos, but I can not get over how the conversations are written. It’s confusing on who’s actually talking. Also there were alot of damn characters and names. I was confused for the first 5 chapters lmao.

Now for the story. Son of a mob boss witnesses his uncle’s murder from the hands of their ally. It has been said neither family can go after each other.

He knows of his father finds out there will be a war. So he fakes his death to prevent having to say something.

Now as an adult with a new identity, he has had a rough life. Although he made a name for his self.

His wife was cheating in him the entire marriage with the same man.

He falls in love with a single mother. They vibe real good. He lies about his past. But his past finds him, apparently through his father in law.

If this was written better would have def gave it 5.

But I’m gone read the other 7 though lmao

Not worth the time I put into it

This book is chopy to say the least. The author jumps around from past to present. Mixing up names. For example the child witness's name it changed to Tony, however she jumps between the old and new names when talking to the people who will care for the child in his new home.

The premise is good, the book is not

The book is just confusing. There is way too much backstory and much of it could be handled as a reveal later in the book. I could not get through this book, it's tedious and confusing and tAkes a long time to get to the meat of the story. I deleted the book a third through and deleted the rest of the series as well. This author may improve over time but I don't think I will be following her career.

amazing story

Love this story but also slightly pissed off at the story. The constant flashback an introduction of new characters can become annoying but I get why it needs to be done the way it is because it makes you understand the story a lot more. What I’m not a big fan of is the fact that the two main characters just had separate lives in a sense where it’s like they built a family with different people and now all of that is combined in this chaos I felt like that threw the story off for me but ultimately it’s a really good story.

This is my first book by Posey Parks. I gave four stars because of the confusing run-around as I was reading the story. I wish she would give each chapter a date (especially when going to the past) so that the reader will know and it would become clearer and not confusing. Nevertheless, it was a great story with a cliffhanger and now I will read Hidden Witness 2 to continue the story about Dillon and Sierra.

Another Great Work of Art

I really loved this book. It's smooth how the characters from Relentless Chase was woven right into it. Sierra and Dillon/Jeff deserved to be happy and Lindsey and Jeremy was cheaters that ruined the lives of good people because they were greedy and selfish. Can't wait for part two to release. Keep up the good work.

Suspense I like

First time reader of this author. Not bad for the first part and looking forward to reading the next. I usually hate cliffhangers but Dillon and Sierras beginnings and experiences drew me. The suspense, the heat and passion within each chapter kept me captivated that I am determined to read their HEA. They deserve one.

The first Hidden Witness along with all the others were great reads. I love how the author tells the characters' stories. How she skips back and forth between the past and the present. It keeps the stories interesting and engaging and allows the reader to really get to full know the characters if you can keep up. I also love the characters' stories are intertwined from one book to the next.
