Salt Lake City Then and Now matches historic photos with the same views today to provide a fascinating insight into a city that has seen much changes but continues to celebrate its unique history.
A fascinating book. The author takes old pictures of major sights and buildings around Salt Lake and posts them next to current pictures of that same space. I enjoyed seeing pictures of the downtown I love and learning a bit of the history behind it. I was sad about all of the lovely buildings that did not manage to get saved, but really liked how some have been preserved. I think one of the biggest losses is the old Saltair. I wish I could have explored it. Anyhow, my biggest complaint is that not all of the pictures are precisely dated. Otherwise I really enjoyed it.
I really enjoyed learning about the history of the buildings that had once been, and what motivated the changes to their facades, or their ultimate destruction and replacement. Best also, was taking my usual walks and finding the buildings I had just read about :)
This book was given to me as a gift right before I took traip to Salt Lake City. I love this book and all the photos and history. I loved having it with me as I went through the city.
