Born in 1965, I grew up on a working cattle ranch in the desert thirty miles from Wickenburg, Arizona, which at that time was exactly the middle of nowhere. Work, cactus and heat were plentiful, forms of recreation were not. The TV got two channels when it wanted to, and only in the evening after someone hand cranked the balky diesel generator to life. All of which meant that my primary form of escape was reading.

At 18 I fled to Tucson where I attended the University of Arizona. A number of fruitless attempts at productive majors followed, none of which stuck. Discovering I liked writing, I tried journalism two separate times, but had to drop it when I realized that I had no intention of conducting interviews with actual people but preferred simply making them up.

After graduating with a degree in Creative Writing in 1989, I backpacked Europe with a friend and caught the travel bug. With no meaningful job prospects, I hitchhiked around the U.S. for a while then went back to school to learn to be a high school English teacher. I got a teaching job right out of school in the middle of the year. The job lasted exactly one semester, or until I received my summer pay and realized I actually had money to continue backpacking.

The next stop was Australia, where I hoped to spend six months, working wherever I could, then a few months in New Zealand and the South Pacific. However, my plans changed irrevocably when I met a lovely Swiss woman, Claudia, in Alice Springs. Undoubtedly swept away by my lack of a job or real future, she agreed to allow me to follow her back to Switzerland where, a few months later, she gave up her job to continue traveling with me. Over the next couple years we backpacked the U.S., Eastern Europe and Australia/New Zealand, before marrying and settling in the mountains of Colorado, in a small town called Salida.

In Colorado we starved and froze, started our own electronics business, and had a couple of sons, Dylan and Daniel. In 2005 we shut the business down and moved back to Tucson.

I am currently working on finishing The Devastation Wars fantasy series and attending graduate school.

Great book

The final battles occur in this book with new and amazing creatures that we learn about. Excellent descriptions of the people, the cities and the creatures that dwell all around us.

A tidy ending.

The author has left room for more: where did the Shapers come from? same world as Shorn?!

What world will Rome and Bonnie's (son/daughter) inherit?

And so comes the end of the saga.. and what an end this is! It takes you through a kaleidoscope of emotions - it's scary, it's touching, it's full of hatred and full of love, and above all, it's full of empathy even for the most villainous of the villains...

Melekath's Children are finally at the gates of Qarath and there is nothing anyone can really do to stop them. The ones who haven't fled the city are determined to defend it - and their loved ones - to the last breath; they fight against all odds, even when all hope seems futile - but that's their home and they won't leave it...
Netra is there, too, still blaming herself for bringing all this on the world and trying to understand Ya'Shi's words, "You are the doorway..." Will she understand what she must do in time to save everyone?
The Takare finally reach their homeland only to discover the Wreckers Gate is closed to them - and Gulagh is waiting for them behind it. What will the spirit-kin do about him? Will they listen to Shakre's warnings or head right into battle against the enemy and fall into his trap?

It's a fantastic ending to en epic saga, masterfully woven by Eric T. Knight. We have seen the characters grow as the story developed, some of them reaching heights of their abilities, some falling into the lowest recesses of their hearts and minds. We hated some of them at the beginning only to find ourselves pity them at the end - and the other way round. And although we somehow knew it all must end well, the way the story was written took us on a great adventure, with moments of utter despair and utter joy, leading to a very satisfying conclusion...

As with all the previous parts, the pace of the book is fast, with breathtaking imagery, especially when it comes to the description of the siege of Qarath. But the action packed scenes are well balanced by more subtle, emotional moments, like Netra's journey to self-discovery... There's also quite a lot of humour, with Ya'Shi's character especially - you just cannot help falling in love with him:) And I like the fact that just like in life, some plotlines were closed and finalised while others were left open, with hints of the unknown future waiting there for us - with all the good and bad future usually brings...

It has been a fantastic journey throughout the five books in the series - with strong, complex, true-to-life characters whom you'll miss, a unique system of magic which doesn't feel like magic at all being so much more, and this very seemingly obvious message which appears in the best of literary works and which so many people miss and don't believe in in life: what I do really matters even if I am just one small unimportant person - my actions do have an impact, they do add to the efforts of others and they truly can save the world..

This the fifth and final book to the series takes off right where book 4 left off and takes us to a much awaited ending. A magnificent ending which we finally arrive at after so many adventures, so much character formation, so much death and loss but also so much courage and love. Melekath's children are finally free and they are hungry for song, they are on their way to Qarath and Quyloc and Wulf Rome and the Tenders do their best to keep the citizens safe but the hunger is unquenchable and the children will just not be stopped. This book has taught me so much, it is full of wisdom which we should all learn. It taught me that I am a part of a whole and that only when we let go of our fears, of losing our power and imposing our self will, when we just go with the flow of life, only then are we really free. So difficult to trust that what has to be will be and we have only to relinquish our hold to arrive where we are meant to be - we are life - all part of one whole - we are the universe and the universe is us, each and every one of us. If only we learnt to trust, to stop doing and just start being for all to be well with
the world. A lesson which Cara, Netra, Shakre all found difficult to learn but learn they did, a lesson which only Ricarn seemed to know and trust, and that is why I think she was my favourite character in the book. I cannot recommend this series highly enough, so all you lovers of epic fantasy sagas do yourselves a favour and go out and buy the set of 5 books! Eric T. Knight as always you blow my mind away with your excellent writing, thank you.

Epic Conclusion

Well after the ups and downs of the last few books i was looking forward to the conclusion of this series and it was delivered.
Beware the nice and tidy battle you expect as their is many a twist and turn yet. My only regret is that i wish it could jave been longer with some added details of the travels our heroes experience. However this leads wonderfully into his 2nd series which im quite far into already showing the same flair and basis built upon in the this one with some of the main characters. Ideal after reading this and sonething i heartily recommend.

Powerful and Amazing!

What a grand finale to an awesome series. This book is great. The world building was fantastic, the flawed characters are perfect. I was on an emotional roller coaster through the whole fabulous story. A story full of loyalty, trust, love, death and loss. A unique magic that kept me captivated. Mr. Knight knows how to weave an amazing story with wonderful characters. I could not get enough. Without reservation I can highly recommend this book as well as the complete series.

Great series

I highly recommend this book series, it was interesting, the characters were both likable and flawed and there were several unexpected plot twists that I enjoyed. Good for young readers, as there are no sexually explicit parts of any kind, which was refreshing since a lot of fiction tends to heavy hand it in the "romance" department. I read the series in less then a week, so it was obviously intriguing and a good read.

Wow! All the storylines had our beloved characters in hopeless situations facing utter defeat and the destruction of all life on their world. And yet, from the brink of despair with all hope lost against impossible odds, somehow, they triumph. Absolutely fabulous! Loved it!! I have already started the Chaos & Retribution series (probably should have finished this one first!) and it is equally as fabulous. And (now that I know) how things tie back in history to this series is eye opening!

Great series! Could put down!

I read Immortality and Chaos first so it was great to see how some characters were and how they matured. I loved the characters in that series so this one, they seemed more harsh but I was so busy getting into all the exciting 'chaos' with them, I didn't miss the constant highjinks and deadpan humor the other supplied. Mr. Knight, you are constantly shining.

Every book in this series is non-stop action. Fabulous characters. Fantastic interweaving of stories. Satisfying solutions to seemingly unsolvable chaos.

What a great ending to an excellent series. This book was exciting, sad, and thought provoking. It really blurred the lines between heroes and villains and made the reader consider the definition of each.
A wonderful conclusion to the series I will definitely be looking into the next series.

Nice series

I have read through book 5 in the series. The books are creative. The writer could be a best seller with the help of a good editor.

Would have rated it lower but, ultimately, it delivers what was promised: how the most urgent situations were dealt with and solved.
But, for a series that, more than once, stated that the supernatural characters weren't gods and kept praising the might of the human will, it used and abused the Deus ex machina.
... meh.

As always Eric T. Knight has penned a classic.

Ive got the feels for these chatacters. Finn, Netra, and the gang are going on and thats a fabulous thing. A unique use of magic, or at least another way to use magic, and storylines that go on for days. If you like when a writer shows his smarts and you can tell they have a well lived imagination it pays off to invest in this series.
