Be prepared for a brief history of architecture and a long history of interior decorating starting with medieval times. Only the first chapter truly concerns itself with dollhouses (called "baby houses" during certain time periods), then the book plunges into real-life trends since dollhouses were made to model the fashions of the time.
The photographs of various dollhouses are excellent, but they frequently don't match up with the captions.
I wanted this to be more of a tour of the more famous dollhouses, many of which are now preserved in museums.
And the editor should have paid closer attention - at one point the author clearly intended to fact check a detail and wrote "(I have to check this at office)", and it made its way into the final edition.
Very interesting information on how Western homes and furnishings have changed since medieval European times. Goes over the exterior and then each individual room, how they have changed. Gorgeous photos of many different dollhouses.
A good-sized book with large, full color pictures and information on historical interior/exterior decoration. Great for inspiration, but for detailed, nitty gritty how-to I wouldn't use this book. As a sourcebook (as it says on the cover) it is excellent.
