Sky Hunters: X-Battalion

Sky Hunters #1

by Jack Shane

Bobby Autry is one of the best in the world at what he does. An elite combat chopper pilot, Autry has been tested under fire and always come out on top. But his new assigment might change all that. He's been tasked to lead a new unit of the elite Night Stalkers, a unit that can outfly the rest of the pilots in SOAR (Special Operations Air Regiment), outshoot the best gunners in the SEALs or Deltas, and operate as indepdently as the most lawless gureillas. The results: an experimental unit expected to fail: the X–Battalion. It won't be easy. The pilots he has at his command are the craziest, most dangerous, most unpredictable men in the military, men capable of thinking beyond rules and regulations, but men equally capable of breaking them. Autry will need every one of them if they are to survive their first mission. North Korean dictator Kim Il Sung had procurred a weapon of apocalyptic destruction, and all intelligence points to his willingness to use it within the next 48 hours. If he deploys the weapon, he will poison the entire planet with radioactive fallout. The only way to stop him is with a group that can move silently, strike powerfully, and not worry about breaking a few rules along the way. The only way to stop him: X–Battalion.

Not soldiers?

This is a great story of what a leader can do with people others want discharged. This light colonel took soldiers who were just outstanding pilots and turned them into master covert soldiers. He proved the transformation by saving the world.

For $0.99 this book is a steal. A fun action military thriller. This time the action heroes are helicopter pilots: Nightstalkers Plus! The best of the best or the worst of the best or something like that. An exciting doomsday threat is introduced (North Korea) and we are on! Tons of action from the air and lots on the ground. The X-Battalion is the full package. Only 3 books in this series and I will for sure read them all. A fun summer read.

I have the audio version of this book. It's great and I really enjoyed the underdogs being the best of the best. Thinking outside the box was a fun ride with these warriors. I will definitely be reading more of Jack Shane's books.

Fast action by the world's best fighting forces.

Units from America's toughest troops stage a secret
invasion to find and disarm a doomsday bomb in a
country ruled by insane leaders.

Sky Hunters

Not as high a rating as several of my other readings in this category even though an entertaining story. The main problem was a lot of unbelievable extrications when the author wrote himself into a corner. Overall a good entertainment value for casual time.
