Cleftlocke is on the rise...

Restless for a life beyond the garrison walls, Dainger of Rhulsh is intrigued by orders to retrieve the ancient Sword of Mizgal from a mysterious clan. Hoping to prove himself worthy of the title he has been denied, his plans are quickly complicated by the dangerous games of both a devious prince and a vengeful knight.

Bound by an anguished silence, Kara longs to redeem her son from the raiding clan that stole him from her two years ago. When her only friend sets off on a mission to Cleftlocke it seems her chance has finally come - but her desperate choice may cost Dain everything.

Difficulties arise, taxing the fragile balance of duty and honor, and when expectations are overturned and matters escalate beyond their control, the handful of wanderers must face the possibility that God has planned a greater purpose for them all. Their faith will be tested by the choice to believe it.

Age Appropriate For: 12 and up for mild violence, hints of romance, some intense scenes
Best for Ages: 12-25

While I’ve loved all of the Companions of Arcrea series, this was my favorite. The setting was amazing, the characters so vivid, and the mystery unfolded so perfectly. I grinned like an idiot for a good part of this story just because it was so cool.

As always, the faith element was well done and a joy to read. Nicole Sager always has a strong faith message that is a natural part of the story. This story showcased that ability at it’s best.

The settings in this book were so cool. Of course, I’m a huge fan of tree-dwelling communities. All the places described are pretty cool. I would totally go to an Arcrea theme park. Yes, we need a theme park which is based on some of these cool books.

The characters in this story were deep and well developed with complex motivations and personalities. Each of them was perfect for their role and I would be hard-pressed to pick a favorite. We even got to see one character change because of Jesus' redeeming work in his life.

The story took several twists and turns. I don’t want to give anything away but my mind was blown at the major plot twist. I’m not often surprised, so that was nice. Even if you see it coming, I think it will still be pretty cool.

I highly recommend this book for those who like non-magical fantasy, adventure stories, and tales that glorify God in portraying faith in a realistic manner.

ONE reckless youth in search of a knighthood.
ONE silent mother in search of her child.
ONE powerful man in search of unfinished business.
All three in search of one hidden relic...

Cleftlocke is on the rise!
Deep in the mountains of Mizgalia, an elusive clan holds the key it needs to gain an ear to their demands, as well as the answers some seek.
Various conflicting parties journey to extract them as the clan faces treachery and secrets within itself that threaten to disintegrate the order that binds them together.
Loyal, it's people may be; but to whom?

Dain the Fearless, dragon-slayer, sets out on his trusty steed in a quest that- if successful- will finally grant him his greatest wish.
He is joined in time by an unlikely band of companions, each harboring individual secrets and motivations for seeking out the mysterious clan. Treachery and discord threaten to destroy them from within, as well as without.
Loyal, each member may be; but to whom?

Here weaves a tale fraught with deception and duty, determination and destiny; friends and enemies becoming indistinguishable- as tree branches intermingled- when alliances shift and kingdoms, motives, and life as it's known are upturned.

The future balances uncertain as the faith of each is tested and the Faithful One seeks for those willing to take a stand in such a time as this.

There are not words to describe what I feel after reading this masterpiece. Nicole has taken an entirely different twist to her writing and takes you to places you couldn’t even imagine. Like other readers, I have waited a long time to read this continuation to the series, and I willingly admit that I was not disappointed—I only long to read more.

The plot develops quickly and I had quite the time keeping up with it. Dain will always hold a special place in my heart, but I found myself wondering where Artem was going to come into play. He is a mind-blowing character with twist and turns around every corner, but he possesses a heart of pure gold. I was completely intrigued by his character.

The climax ending left my heart racing and my head reeling. What action! I’m still shaking from all the excitement! Like I said before, completely different from her other books. It’s an out-of-the-box approach to the Mizgalia world. In some ways, it was a lot more simpler of a plot line than Burdney, but the setting and characters were almost better. Simply splendid.

I have loved Nicole Sager's series, COMPANIONS OF ARCREA, and didn't fail to find delight within the pages of book three, Cleftlocke! This book was a little different than the first two, but a great story nonetheless.

Non-magical fantasy with a solid faith thread, Cleflocke follows the lives of several people and touches on multiple kingdoms and clans. On a mission to gain his knighthood, young Dainger the Fearless finds himself wrapped up in a situation and destiny so much bigger than himself.

First off, the characters. I always love something about Nicole's characters! She has great, masculine male characters (many with a wonderful sense of humor), and feminine yet strong female characters. In this book, Kara and Meredie were our two female POV characters. Kara was more gentle and motherly while Meredie was impulsive and headstrong. But both were passionate with some great inner strength. Dain was so fun and interesting. *grins* And there were a couple other POV characters I really liked, as well. So many characters. But they're all unique and splendid and I just really enjoy getting to follow the POV character's stories and also get tantalizing glimpses into the secondary character's lives.
And, oh, I simply adore Blythelyn. Oh my stars, she was precious. She personality and unique character was just fantastic. The author did a really good job with the children in this story.

There's some fantastic humor and wit in Cleftlocke that I absolutely loved. I think that's another thing I appreciate and anticipate in these books.

The fantasy aspect is really cool. Interesting fantasy creatures and plants. Dragons. Minstrels. Kings, kingdoms, and wars. This fantasy world is well-done.

Some parts of Cleftlocke were a little slow (compared to what I personally prefer), but Nicole Sager's writing style is nonetheless professional and beautiful and very good. Some scenes she wrote were so well-described and so intense that I was breathless while reading them! Another brought me to tears and I nearly sobbed. Well done, Nicole!

I enjoyed the adventure, the action, and the unexpected twists. I loved getting glimpses of possible romances. *winks* I was in awe how all the threads of this story wove together! And the family aspect was simply beautiful! ^_^ Redemption and journeys and unexpected happenings.

Overall, I really liked this book. I laughed a lot! It was a daring adventure. Can't wait for more by Nicole Sager!

I absolutely loved this book. For me these books have all been wonderful and each one becomes my new favorite. I'd say Cleftlocke and Burdney are equal favorites. They're each a little different, but the same flavor. I love the messages and the surprises and just a good clean adventure. Highly recommended.

This was the best of the whole Companions of Arcrea series. This cast of characters was my favorite, and it built on the previous two books beautifully.
This book had the most unexpected plots I would have expected for an Arcean book, and it was so. much. fun. So many things in this book left me stunned.
Cleftlocke itself was pretty awesome, and I loved how excited Dain got over it. ;)
The only thing I didn't love (It's a major spoiler, so don't read unless you've read the book)

Like the other books in this series, this book was full of plot twist and turns. I love the idea of Illusia, the valley with ziplines and tree homes. The characters were amazing, too, my favorites are Artem and Dain. I loved the ending, all the loose ends tied up and connected into this intricate web of a story. I hope to see more books by Nicole Sager set in this world, soon!
