I choosed this book because it look intresting and i like mystery books. it takes place in new york city and Nikki Trakos goes to a diserted diner and started doing a report on a homiside case and it her first one and she gets so excited. her boss comes and tells her to go back to her desk that the homicide was a mans job and then she tells him to give her three days and she will have the killer behind bars. the next day she and her partner lawton got a good led questioning the people he knew and sunmanns boss. nikki has to take care of lara her sisters daughter. the killer ended up being mr. douglas a person who sunmann owded money to and mr. douglas was one of the loan sharks. there was some problems with trakos's partner lawton but she didn't want to tell her boss because she was afraid she would get kicked of the case and there would've been a fight about it. later in the book lawton comes back and yells at her because he couldn't find her and accused her for not knowing what she was doing and made her almost cry. trakos didn't like lawton at first but lawton made up for being mean to her and treating her different just because she was a girl. lawton brought her to the carnival where he won a stuffed animal for her and bought her a ship in a bottle for her neace lara because lara collected ships.

This was an enjoyable police procedural. All the usual elements are there and the mystery was tangled enough that it took about 3/4 through to figure it out. I liked the heroine, Nikki Trakos. She is kind of the anti-mybigfatGreekwedding gal. It does seem weird in 2012 to be reading about police procedures of 1990 that were all about typewriters and making phone calls from booths. So very long ago!
