Insta-poet K. Towne Jr. has captured the hearts and imagination of thousands. This is his first published and illustrated collection, including his most popular works, as well as new and exclusive pieces.
You said “us” —and in that moment, I knew words were magic.
Some pieces are in slam style, others more classic, but all encapsulate universal emotions and experiences—in particular, love and heartbreak. Laying out his soul in words, Brooklyn-based K. Towne Jr.’s authenticity shines through and is undoubtedly what has made his work so relatable and admired.
Arghhhhh what a stunning collection of thoughts and words and pictures. This book is beautiful. It reminds me of milk and honey in many respects although less political. It has the same sense of honesty, like the writer is baring his soul whether the poems are poems or mere thoughts.
At times, it dances around cliches and, at others, it dives head first into them. This can feel a bit nauseating and elicit eyes rolls, but we would do well to remember that cliches are cliches for a reason.
I related to it in a number of ways. I recognise myself in an huge amount of the pages. It's almost like I could have written some of the words here, like the writer has viewed slices of my life and crafted them into words, and there is undeniably comfort in that. The poet states in the introduction that if just one persons life can be improved by this book than it was worth the effort expended. In that sense, as well as many others, it can most definately be counted as a success. I never wanted it to end and would thoroughly reccomend.
Actually enjoyed the poems in this one, I didn’t fall madly in love with it but there were like few of them that touched my heart. Overall it’s an enjoyable and warming read plus the art work in it is beautiful as well!
This book was better than I expected, I’m not really into romantic poetry but this was actually pretty decent and will definitely remember a few poems and quotes.
Would I recommend? Yes, if you’re into romantic poetry Would I read again? Probably
I was in a bookstore one day, searching for books to buy. I moved to Poetry section and started pulling out random books. Then I saw this one; the title intrigued me. I opened it to a random page; it rhymed. I opened it to another page; it rhymed again. I purchased this book right away. Now, not every single "poem" rhymes. However, the author doesn't seem to claim that this is just a collection of poems, but of "art" and "words" too. And, I respect that. I absolutely hate when an author says that his/hers book is a book of poems but NONE rhyme! Then, it becomes a book of prose! Also, most of the "poems" here are about love and that's another thing that I tend not to like. I feel like love poems are overrated and there are so many of them out there already. But, once again, K. Towne Jr. does these kind of poems in such clever (and sometimes amusing) way that makes you overlook the whole "love" thing. And, of course, the pictures are very pretty. If the author did them himself (drew or took the photo) kudos to him. But, even if he didn't, these pictures are great addition to the whole book. All the best to the author. I hope to see more great work from him.
"It's you. Every single time it's you. I want to to hold your head in my hands as my lips brush against the softness of your skin and I know you don't need me, but you want me and I want you back and there's nothing in this world that will stop me from choosing you every night before I fall asleep and every morning when I wake up because there's magic to the choice, and I promise that every single time I'll choose you. Always you."- a run on sentence
This book has such beautiful wording and amazing photos. I was so happy when I saw it sitting on a bookshelf at Vroman's Bookstore in Pasadena! I've been following K Towne Jr. for a while and was so happy to have a physical copy of his work.
I’m not a poetry reader so don’t know whether this would be considered good or bad, academically speaking. What I can say is that I really liked the ‘feel’ of the book and for the most part how the words flowed. The artwork added another element to a lovely book. A few of the pieces felt a little cliched but on the whole I found it really enjoyable. It made me think, I smiled & felt better for reading it.
I don't know but i read this book for just 1 hour and i can basically tell that i feel like I AM NOT IN THE ROOM. I feel like i'm in some other place where i can feel so much pain, sadness and broken words. I love it and ps. I just read this one at the bookstore for just 1 hour, it takes me over 👍👍
Relatable, empowering, affective. I love the perspective the artist has on life and conveys with his words in these poems. My copy is filled with post-its on pages of my favorites, and I've already gifted one to a friend.
" I have to believe in other worlds, because if there isn't at least one universe where you and I exist together, then how am I supposed to believe that anything is real?"
I loved this collection. The poems/thoughts were beautiful. Though it can be quite romantic and sad at times, I feel anyone can relate to some of what the author is saying.
