If you’re looking for a Dramione fic, this ain’t it. This is a decent retelling of Hermione being adopted by Sirius when Bellatrix kills her muggle parents on the same night James and Lily die, but I’m 72% in and the most Draco and Hermione have done is hold hands.
Sometimes the slow burn is just the stove clicking away without any gas. Maybe I’ll come back to this later, but it’s too damned long to be this damned slow, at this point it’s going to end like an Austen novel with their first kiss in the last paragraph. 🤷♀️

The first half made me believe that this would make my list of top-tier fics; unfortunately it felt like someone else wrote the second half, and I had to force myself to finish it :(

Yes ye gods I am done and just under the wire (I wanted to start a fresh in Feb for other reasons).
This is another in a long list of "Hermione is BAMF" er...I mean wherein a change to Hermione's life makes a lot of notably better changes to others.
Well aside from folk dying, though without spoilers I want to say that the author did a damned fine job displaying the many different kinds of grief. Especially with one of the younger characters.
There's some rare pairs here - pairs I wouldn't have thought worked until they did. A couple pairings that are less rare than normal, but still pretty hard to come by fully fleshed out.
Oh fuck it - I would die for the depiction of Pansy and Neville in this fic. I mean it. Their relationship progression was utterly beautiful.
Really that's a highlight here - the author doesn't truly focus on just Hermione. She's at the center of everything, the very reason so much occurs and changes, but as the years build everyone gets fleshed out that's part of the 'New Marauders' (plus many of their parents).
Hell Ron AND Ginny were so tolerable I was actively enjoying when they'd show up.
Anyhow, the ending (with the inevitable fight with Voldemort) is hard. So hard to read. To be truthful everything after Chapter 57 (which is MY FAVORITE CHAPTER) is hard. There's a lot of moments throughout that are also hard, as Hermione is the hero of this story she basically gets seriously hurt as often as Harry should have been in the original series. But the ending is hard as you can tell the characters came a long way.
Anyhow brilliant, top 10, good way to finish the month.

Dnf at 50% for being such a slow and annoying burn, I burned out and couldn’t continue when I’d already read 130,000 words and Hermione can barely tolerate Draco. I really liked the premise at the beginning. Thought it had potential but I started getting annoyed with Hermione.

Dramione. Sirius adopts Hermione as a toddler and raises her and Harry. Narcissa is very supportive of Dramione in this. Lots of minor character death. Emphasis on Family magics. Would read again.
