18+ only. Contains scenes of sex, torture/violence and swearing.
I wrote my first book for my GCSE English coursework. We had to write a children's book and after getting a glowing report, was picked to read it at the local nursey. I haven't written since, until now.
When not writing you'll find me at my day job, spending time with my pet rabbits, photography, crafting, walking/birdspotting and reading.
i was hooked from the get go and for the first time i will say finished a book within 4 hours or less this year lol. a truly captivating, thrilling read.terrifying at times, but addictive all the same spoiler alert
abi is engaged to adam who works with her at the police force and they have it going good for them especially abi,who has been kidnapped and hurt in the past.she puts off telling adam the truth only for her to get kidnapped by michael, her uncle yet again and go through similar torture to what she endured years back.whatever he tried to do to break her spirit, adam and the rest find a way to help counter it even while abi is in captivity.a story on true perseverance, grit, strength, and unconditional, accepting love.

I love psych thrillers, but I wanted something with a strong romantic plot. I got what I wanted in this book. My favorite aspect was Abi, hands down. Ralley knows how to write a likable, rounded, heroine who pulls the reader firmly onto her side. The pace was perfect for me, and I was engaged enough to feel strongly about the characters. Kudos to Ralley. Looking forward to the other books.
A true page turner. An easy read which kept me turning the pages. Frightening to believe that, what happened to Abi, can happen in real life. Looking forward to Series 2. I held back on 5 star because I thought it could do with a bit more editing, but saying that, it never took my mind off enjoying the story. Well done, J M Talley.
How could anyone not cheer for Abi? She is a sweetheart who survived the worst and came out of it hopeful enough to fall in love. As she is enjoying her new life with the love of her life, a fellow police officer, her past comes back to shatter her dreams and destroy her peaceful life once again. All of the characters are amazing. Some you love; some you love to hate (to me, that is a sign of great writing).
There were quite a few grammatical errors, misspellings, and a lot of extra commas. The author is British, but this book series is based on American characters that are in LA & NY, so I did not expect any British spellings or words, but there were a few. As far as the plot and characters go, it is absolutely a 5 out of 5 book, but with the grammatical and spelling errors, plus the British words, I gave this book 4 out of 5 stars - 4.3 would be my honest star rating if I could do partial stars. I hope that JM Ralley uses an American editor for a final run through for the rest of the books in this series. I am looking forward to reading Persecuting Adam (Book 2 in the series).
I received a complimentary copy of the book from the author via Voracious Readers Only. Thank you JM Ralley!!! :) Warning: This book contains acts of violence, rape by a family member (uncle - described in detail), and attempted suicide, but none of it is gratuitous and fits within the dark plot perfectly. I highly recommend this book if you like dark thriller books as Persecuting Abi is a crazy thrill ride of a book!
I received this book in exchange for an honest review through Voracious Readers Only.
This is a great read! The story is brilliant, it holds suspense and has detailed characters. The story has many twists and doesn't feel drawn out, it is gripping.
There is a love story also running through the book and it shows how love can give people strength to carry on. Abi is a victim but the story shows she is a survivor.
I think readers should take heed of the warning about content- there is a lot of violence and sexual violence described.
I gave this book 5 stars because it is an excellent story. However, I do feel that a good tidy up would benefit the reader.
There are a lot of typos, spelling mistakes and the tenses can change a lot. Even in one sentence it can jump between present, past and present tense again. At the start it was bothering me, so I stopped at chapter 3, read a different book and came back to it after. I am so glad I came back to this story-but I think others could become as easily become frustrated with these issues as I did and maybe not return.
I would read this story again and look forward to reading the next book in the series.
I thought that Persecuting Abi had a great amount of romance and suspense. I felt like at times that I was watching one of the better Lifetime movies. There were a lot of grammar errors and Spelling errors, but that didn't take away from the book. The author should look into American slang though because it didn't make much sense for New Yorkers and L. A. natives to be using British slang. Overall, this is a really good start to the author's career. I look forward to reading Persecuting Adam when I get a chance.
It was an awesome read. Exciting and thrilling, indeed. The pain of Abi was detailed that I felt it through my bones. But her determination and willingness to live was on point.
Evil is within us, living around us. And it's our will to fight them back. I guess, that's one of the main lesson I've learn in this story. An addition to that is that love really conquers all.
Thank you Ms. JM Ralley for this wonderful story. Would love to read more of your work. Congratulations!
Abi was finally happy. She had a man that was in love with her. So much that he asked for to marry him. Then all hell breaks loose. She's kidnapped, raped, and beaten. But will her and Adam, her fiancé, have what they once had? Happiness?
Side note: I'm thinking book two will shed more light and fill in some questions that weren't answered in book one.
This is an amazing, gripping read. It will leave you on the edge of your seat. It will have you in tears at time and yelling the next. The steam, hot sex..was amazing and gave you a look at the passion. Well written a easy to follow read. All around great book
What a thrilling exciting story. What a debut this story has had me on the edge off my seat with all of it's twists and turns. Abi is such a strong character her shear grit and determination really shone through. Adam is the type of gentleman that every woman dreams of he's kind, gentle, patient, loving and caring.
I can't wait to read the next book to see what happens next will Michael succeed with his plan will Abi and Adam get their well deserved happy ever after. One can only wait in anticipation for the second instalment.
I finished reading this book in 48 hours. Once you pick it up, it is hard to put it down. It has a handsome cop, the cop loves a beautiful woman, the woman loves him back but will the demons of her past let her have her happily ever after? Overall the book is a complete package, it has drama, romance, suspense, sex, some truly terrifying scenes. and will manage to evoke a lot of emotions in you but I couldn’t help but feel that it would make a better movie or even a TV series than a book. There are some typos, certain phrases are repeated one too many times and could use paraphrasing and sometimes even when the writer has managed to build enough suspense and has you on the edge of your seat biting your nails, she is trying to build it even more and at those moments it becomes a bit of a drag. To me, certain facts seemed unbelievable and at times characters failed to properly express their emotions. I still have a lot of why’s which I hope will be answered in the next book. Needless to say, I will be giving Abie, Adam and the whole L.A police department another chance in Ralley’s next book Persecuting Adam.
Received a copy from Reader's House in exchange for an honest review.
Abi was abducted by her uncle at the age of 15, with horrific internal injuries she survives but Michael escapes. Time passes and she's engaged to marry Adam when Michael strikes again.
Abi isn't persecuted she is abused and traumatised, and Michael is still circling. I do wonder why he is doing what he does, why does he hate his brother, why does hurting his niece mean so much to him. Why can she never be happy, don't get me started on the Trojan horse he somehow embedded.
Some typos, orgasm and organism are two separate things. Poor Abi who manages to survive multiple bleed outs from stab wounds and over penetration. What about the water she was sitting in? It starts out quite stilted but does settle, it is rushed in places and I just want to know what the feud was about.... it's bugging me
“Persecuting Abi” was a fast-paced, gritty read that many fans of dark fiction will enjoy. Having suffered abuse at the hands of her uncle, Abi finally rebuilds her life and meets the man of her dreams who’s just as crazy about her as she’s about him. But the nightmares of the past are far from being buried, it appears; the deranged maniac strikes again, and this time only time will show if Abi will make it out alive… Abi’s fighting spirit was probably one of the best aspects of the story. Her defiance and refusal to give up on her life and on her loved ones made her a wonderful central heroine. I’ll definitely be picking up book two.
