The Tour
Take a tour you’ll never forget as you navigate the stunning vistas of gorgeous Ireland along with the hearts and minds of a cast of characters who will live with you, long after you’ve finished the last page.
During a routine tour of Ireland, tour guide Conor O’Shea finds himself on a journey of his own through the lives of his hilarious companions as together they navigate both the Irish countryside and the secrets of their individual lives.
A Wall Street banker, a divorcee, a musician, a cop, and a professor all enter Ireland with something on their minds, and throughout their journey with Conor as their guide, they each begin to show something of themselves against the spectacular backdrop of Ireland.
As colourful and turbulent as an Irish hillside, The Tour offers more than just a look at one of the world’s most beautiful places, but contrasts Ireland’s open skyways and idyllic views against the secret lives of the individual. Witty, informative, and with a touch of romance, The Tour offers a unique look at the lives of others amidst the Emerald Isle.
Safe at the Edge of the World
When a shadowy couple turn up on Conor O’Shea’s grand tour of Ireland, the tranquility of Ireland’s landscape acts as a shelter against the stormy reality of the life they left behind.
On the run from a notorious mob boss, this mysterious couple flees the U.S. in search of sanctuary on the shores of the Emerald Isle, hoping to blend in with the tourists. In their wake lies a mafia family’s secrets and a scarred priest torn between his duty to the cloth and to the truth.
Intriguing and uniquely consuming, Father Declan Sullivan’s tale of destiny and duty lies at the feet of those he has betrayed. Can distance and deliverance save the innocent in their desperate pursuit for peace, or will evil catch up to them all?
In Safe at the Edge of the World, author Jean Grainger captures the soothing beauty of Ireland in the lives of those fleeing a criminal bent on revenge.
The Story of Grenville King
Conor O’Shea has had enough of driving and guiding tours of Ireland.
So when an opportunity to renovate and run the magnificent but rundown Castle Dysert as a five-star resort presents itself, he grabs it with both hands.
But problems arise almost immediately when his business partner appears to have more on her agenda than just business.
To add to that, his darling wife seems discontented as a stay at home mom, and his in-laws have moved in. With his family’s future now entangled in a stunningly beautiful old castle on the coast of Clare, Conor undertakes a mammoth project, and in so doing, he uncovers the troubled past of this ancient stronghold. The mystery of the family who lived, loved, and lost their lives within the walls of the castle are reflected in his own family as they too struggle to let go of the past.
Like in every small Irish village, gossip abounds. But do the ghosts of regret still haunt these ancient hallways? It is now left to Conor to explore the truth and uncover a heartbreaking lesson on the power of memory and the long threads that bind us together.
In The Story of Grenville King, Jean Grainger takes you once again to the real heart of Ireland.
Jean Grainger was born in Cork, Ireland. She has been a tour guide of her beloved home country, a teacher, a university lecturer and a playwright. She began writing fiction at the suggestion of her clients on tours, many of whom were sure all the stories she told them would make for a great book. Her first book, The Tour, has become a Number 1 bestseller on Amazon. It tells the story of a disparate group of American visitors to Ireland, who, along with their Irish tour guide have a life changing experience in the magical Emerald Isle. Her second book, So Much Owed, is a family saga set during the Second World War. The story centres on the Buckley family of West Cork and how their lives are pulled in different directions as they become embroiled in the war. It is a sweeping family saga of intrigue and romance against the background of occupied Europe. In her third novel, Shadow of a Century, she tells a tale of a battered old flag found in New York in 2016, a century after it was used during the Easter Rising, when Ireland made her final bid for freedom from Great Britain. This tells the story of a journalist who uncovers a story, one with much more to it than a flag. Her fourth novel, due out in Spring 2016, Under Heaven’s Shining Stars, is set in the 1970s in Cork, Ireland and is a novel about friendship. Three boys, Liam, Patrick and Hugo, though from very different backgrounds are united in a deep but often times challenging friendship. As their lives progress, only by staying strong, can they prevail. Or fail. Her novella, Letters of Freedom, tells the story of Carmel, stuck in a pointless marriage, when a figure from her past emerges and changes everything with a ‘like’ on Facebook. This quick read will touch your heart. She lives in Cork with her husband and her two youngest children. The older two come home occasionally with laundry and to raid the fridge.
The Conor O'Shea Boxed Set gives a heartwarming, funny and entertaining experience by reading these three well written books. The characters are realistic, fun, sad, easy and troublesome. The emotions run the gamut and there are surprises along the routes. The well told stories are full of vivid descriptions that make the reader think they're part of the tours themselves. These books are a perfect escape from the woes of modern life, allowing fun and intrigue to take its place. There's a free download for Letters of Freedom; the start of the Carmen Sheehan Series - a must read.
The Tour #1 - I never get tired of reading Ms. Grainger's books. This is another well written, heartwarming, funny, entertaining, intriguing story. The characters are realistic and run the gamut of personalities. Funny and sad and heartbreaking and uplifting things happen along the route, but the reader never wants to stop reading. The vivid descriptions of Ireland and its culture and its people and the scenery, including buildings, keep the reader immersed in the pages.
Safe at the Edge of the World #2 - What, this is a lot about a couple of Americans. But as I kept reading I forgot that I wanted to read more about Ireland. We still have all our favorite characters from The Tour and the two Americans find safety with the fellow tourists and the crew. Help comes from everywhere and this intense, intriguing story with its surprises is an exceptional book on its own. It was similar to works by Mario Puzo; substantial, heartwarming, heart wrenching and entertaining. Ms. Grainger is very talented in her craft.
The Story of Grenville King #3 - What an amazing collection of stories. No, it's one book but the intertwining stories of the many characters make this a rich, fulfilling, twisting, intriguing story. The characters are well developed, interesting and so real. The dialog is better than average. The plot goes on and on with new happenings, twists and turns. The emotions run the gamut: love, happiness, fear, sadness, hate and more.
This is the first book I've read of the Tour series and I didn't miss anything not having read the previous books. I've read several stories by this author and never have I been disappointed. This book is amazing, substantial and hard to put down. My review doesn’t do justice to this story. I’m glad I contacted the author to review her books.

The Homecoming of Bubbles O'Leary #4 - A terrible person ruins the life of a good person, but .... I absolutely enjoy The Tour Series and this is probably now my favorite of the four books. There are a lot of storylines going on, naturally - Ms. Grainger wrote it, that just kept me glued to the pages. Our favorite characters are still there just as realistic and likable as always. The variety of characters that Bubbles attracted to himself with his big heart and wise ways ran the gamut of different personalities and quirkiness, and the range of emotions gave such depth to the story. While there are a lot of good things happening, there are also the bad. There are plenty of heartbreaks and joys, but the journeys everyone made through the good and bad, as well as their discoveries kept me immersed totally. Of course, Ms. Grainger has a talent for vivid descriptions and I felt as if I was there, too. I contacted the author to review her books. 5*
Finding Billie Romano #5 – I absolutely love this series. This book ends up sharing a storyline from The Star and The Shamrock. Ms. G is the ultimate storyteller and The Tour Series has been a fun, interesting, heartbreaking and heartwarming set of books, with Finding Billie adding to the glory of this series. As always, the storylines of Billie mesh into a tapestry of present, past, history, modern themes, romance and discovery, while using Conor the tour guide then hotel owner as the foundation of the series. I loved visiting with past characters; getting an update of their present whereabouts. Some good and some sad, but Ms. G always shares updates with her readers. Face it, we faithful want to know the rest of the story.
This is a difficult review to write because it is so easy to turn it into a book review since I have the pleasure of reading each book from the first. Lucky new readers, please start with the first book; the foundations laid in each story build upon each other to give the reader a wonderful glimpse into the lives of others and not just the Irish and the American, while learning of Irish history and language. Each book is a standalone but why deprive yourself of a wonderful world written by a talented, knowledgeable writer definitely gifted as a great storyteller. 5* The Tour end.
The Star And The Shamrock – Ms. Grainger does a wonderful job telling about the transportation of children from their families in Europe to the UK. The Jewish children of this story land in Northern Ireland and the reader is introduced to the Irish side of the equation.
The storylines are varied and heartwarming and heart breaking about this horrible period in man’s history. The characters run the gamut from extremely good to extremely hateful. There is good where it is least expected. The pulling together of different cultures, different age groups and different religions shows that man can rise about prejudice and intolerance and make a difference.
While the history is important, this book tells the experiences of a set of characters as they strive to make the best of a bad time. There are plenty of heroes and none wear a cape. It was hard to put down this book since I so immersed in the history and the story. Even though, I know a lot about WWII and the Holocaust, I found Ms. Grainger did an interesting presentation of history and everyday life. For those who don’t like to read about world history, or any history, this is a good introduction. I contacted the author to review her books. 5*
I own each book individually - and loved them all. First the tour - Wow! What an edge of your seat, cannot put it down rush there is with this book! Intense drama, well developed characters. I highly recommend it. Next Safe at the Edge of the World - From the time I began reading until I read the last page, I was immersed in this outstanding tale. I could not put it down. These characters, both primary and secondary, just come alive. There is great suspense, angst, romance, and Ireland so well described that I was ready to book my trip! This tale deserves more than 5 stars. It is extraordinary. Lastly, The Story of Grenville King - It is always nice to meet up with old friends - particularly Conor O'Shea. Jean Grainger's books always suck me in her stories and I get nothing else done until I finish the book! This is a fascinating story of renovating an old castle as a 5 star resort - but is the castle haunted? This story has interesting characters and a mesmerizing plot with Ireland as a backdrop. I highly recommend it. Can be read as a stand alone but will be even better if you read the first two novels.
Who would think 3 stories about a tour bus would be ever so exciting? I wasn’t all that enthusiastic but I love the author’s other books so took a chance, am so glad I did. Conor is a tour guide/bus driver giving tours to vacationers to Ireland. You fall in love with him immediately. His way of dealing with cranky and disgruntled tourist is amazing and how he soon has them eating out of his hands seems miraculous. The tourist in all three books come to life as the author has the ability to flesh out her characters and characters they are. There are smug and snobbish people who get knocked down a peg or two, wife abusers, rapist, and attempted murders who land in Ireland’s prisons. The middle aged broke floozie who throws herself at every man on the tour, the loud mouth American_Irishman who thinks he knows everything about Ireland, the Priest and the mobster’s daughter who fell in love and are on the run for their very lives, and Bert the millionaire who travels the world looking for people who need a bit of help to change their lives. All told, I wish I could give this series ten stars.
I read the Tour Box Set during the beginning of the pandemic. It brought lightness to the unknown of our world reality and hope that we will travel again. All three of the books center on Conner O'Shea, a tour guide in Ireland. He is considerate, fun, knowledgeable and creates memorable journeys for his bus passengers. We meet each tourist and as we are entertained by the Irish countryside and stories and secrets are revealed. In The Tour a divorcee looking for her next husband, her musician teen son, a wealthy man, and a waitress will play out in future books. Safe at the Edge of the World introduces us to a priest and a pregnant mob daughter for a roller coaster ride for safety. The Story of Grenville King has Conner renovating a run down, haunted castle into a 5 star resort.
Through the 3 books filled with many spelling and grammar errors, I enjoyed the books. Having several of the characters appear throughout the entire series made the books continue which is something that I often hope for when ending a book. To read how Conor, the bus driver, solve so many of the issues that arose on the tours reminds me of our trip to Ireland and our bus, though our issues were nothing like the dramas in these 3!! In the last book, I was especially glad to see how he finally resolved the personal issues as well. The personalities on the first tour book were so opposite of each other yet in the end - wow what a surprise! Then to have a mob's daughter and priest drama in the second - wow! Castle Dysert was quite a drama in a different sense but equally as captivating! I could have read more and more.
After having read and thoroughly enjoyed the first two books, I naturally was looking forward to a similar experience with this one. The plot was a good one, and the character development was great. What really spoiled it, and why I gave it only three stars, was due to the many, many mistakes, glaring mistakes. There were misspelled words, wrong gender of pronouns, repetition of words and phrases...someone in proofing this third book really fell asleep on the job.
If you are fascinated by Ireland, Irish culture and the great people of Ireland you will love these books. If Ireland is of no interest to you but you love a good book with well developed characters (some charming and lovable, some troubled but redeemable, and some mean and unscrupulous, you will love these books! And if you are looking for an escape from the chaos and confusion of planet earth 2021, you will especially love these books! Don’t wait. Dig in!
Best of all Jean Grainger. Love every book you wrote. I think I've read all but one. I'll get there next.
I love the tour books. My husband and I took the same tour in Ire!and for our 50th wedding anniversary. It was liking taking it again. Our tour guide was very much like Conor. Many of the group so like his group. Easy to get totally into the life of these people. The stories are so real that it's hard to put the book down. I was in it. Thank you.
The Conor O’Shea Boxed Set gives a heart warming and entertaining experience by reading these three well written books. Jean Grainger’s writing is simply beautiful and smooth. The more that you learn, the more places you’ll go. It’s the possibility of having a dream come true that makes life interesting. Ireland is on my bucket list, who knows I might end up taking a trip over there and follow the steps prescribed in this book. I enjoyed reading it and I’ve got a feeling if I’m in Cork or Clare County, I’ll know my way around. A room without books is like a body without a soul!
I enjoyed this book more than any I've read in a long time. The story just glides along and takes it with you into the beauty and color of Ireland. This author is new to me but I'm anxious to find more of her works. Don't hesitate to read this book and take a trip to the Emerald Isle.
The Tour Box Set: The Conor O'Sshea Series, #1-3 by Jean Grainger is an excellent choice. It has the three books about Conor O'Shea all together. This makes it easy to complete the story without any delays between books. This always makes for much better reading, in my opinion. I hate to wait a month or longer for the next book. I highly suggest getting these three books this way.
I read all 3 this week. It's the middle of the night , but I had to finish the last book before sleeping. The. Books are about yours that brought people together in all kinds of situations. Life and death times. Happy times. Each tour and the lives they touched would never be forgotten. They seemed to bring out the good in people and to unite them.
Loved these books ... Fell in love with Connor O'Shea ! Will be celebrating our 25th anniversary May of 2020, taking a "tour" of Ireland & Scotland for 2 weeks. Hoping our driver is just like Connor! Jean' s characters have become real and her depiction of the Irish and their home have me longing to get there.😃
As I've come to expect from Ms. Grainger! Although I have never been to Ireland, through her words, I can see it! Her descriptions are easily visualized & her characters are real. Most become friends of mine! The others? Well, let me just say they keep it real! Thank you, Ms. Grainger! I WILL be back!
Fell in love with and identified with the characters. Great that they were brought back in all three books. Stories were intriguing and held your attention. Enjoyed the reading experience tremendously.
I love discovering a new author (to me)! The 3 books of The Tour series are interesting, characters are well drawn and wonderful, and learning more about Ireland was fascinating. Highly recommend this series and I'm looking forward to reading book 4.
It was a joy to read. It was like meeting these people in your local ... a tale of every day folk living in an idealic place that just happened to have a few unexpected experiences on the way.
I loved the story line and the flow from one book to the next. My biggest Croatian is the grammar & spelling errors in the 3rd book. Some glaring typos, spacing & basic grammar & spelling mistakes - inexcusable and careless
I enjoyed this series, especially the characters. There was plenty of adventure in the midst of examples of right relationship. I visited Ireland a few years ago and experienced its best asset: the people.
What a unique way to tell a story with many interesting characters! Jean described them so well, I feel like I know them personally. I loved that the story didn’t end but continued through all three books in this series.
As a traveler who has toured Ireland, I hoped to revisit that beautiful country. As it turned out, there was a little revisiting but more meeting and falling in love with native Irish and visitors to Ireland.
I’ve read many of Jean Grainger’s books, including The Tour, and I have never been disappointed. Her characters become my companions, and I feel truly at home. You will too!
It was a nice leisurely read but I wish the author took more time to flesh out the endings. They feel rushed and she is missing opportunities to unveal the story from different angles.
I just enjoyed this 3 book series. Easy reading and although I sometimes i could figure what the outcome would be I was so relaxed while reading. The descriptions of various areas made me want to book a flight to Ireland right now!
All three books were awesome. The first two were my favorites The third book has a lot of misspelled words in it, but we got through it. Just reading her books makes me want to visit Ireland. I will continue to read all of Jean Grainger’s books!!
Jean Granger is a marvelous story teller. She wields her magic bringing her characters together,so that you begin to see them as family. Her stories are magical and humanizing. Well done!
Loved the characters and felt like I was right in the middle of the adventure with them. I want to go to Ireland so bad now and have my own adventure! Looking forward to reading more of the boxed sets
