I’m always up for a good friends-to-more romance, especially if one party thinks the other party could never see them as more than a friend. This generally leads to layered emotion, lingering gazes, some husky voices, and let’s-catch-up-for-all-this-lost-time kissing! I was delighted, therefore, to discover that Gift From Above is one such romance. Jakob and Sarah have a long, complicated history which adds even more layers to their story, and I enjoyed watching their feelings for each other evolve and come to light.

I wouldn’t say that the romance is really the focus of the story, however. At least not for the majority of the book. It’s always there, of course, simmering in the background and giving us a taste for what’s to come for Jakob and Sarah. But the main part of the plot revolves around the mysterious man who parachutes quite literally into Sarah’s life, and the shenanigans that ensue when she secrets him away at her grandmother’s house on the family property. Can I just say here that Sarah’s grandmother steals the show? I loved her no-nonsense, wise approach to the situation and to Sarah’s other woes.

Bottom Line: While Sarah’s initial naivete was frustrating, the way the story progresses evens it all out and gives us a deeper appreciation for her sincere heart. Jakob is a delightful hero – his steady personality and strong character make him shine, particularly in contrast to the mysterious man in the dawdi house. The romance between Sarah & Jakob is sweet and tender, and the redemption thread that ties all the subplots together is truly heartwarming.

Can you imagine seeing a man parachute out of a plane and onto your property? Then when you reach him he is hurt? Also he says someone wants to hurt him, so Sarah Esh, with her kind heart gives him shelter. What is more amazing is that this is an Amish family.
With her Grandmother involved, using the Dawdi House, how can this secret be kept from her family and community, and should it? Be ready. for a lot of laughs here, Grandma sure puts him in his place, and maybe it is God working!
Sometimes we don't see what is in front of our eyes, or appreciate what we have, also making something into what it is not, especially when the heart is involved.
We get to read the third book in this series, and lots of info is offered, so you will not be lost, and you're in for a great read.

Helping prepare for her sister Emma’s wedding, Sarah is outside cutting celery in the garden when a plane flies low to the ground. As Sarah looks up she sees an orange object floating toward a close by hill. Investing she discovers a man has parachuted and landed in a heap claiming to have broken his leg. He also adamantly claims he is in danger and his life is at stake. He needs Sarah to hide him and not tell anyone, including her family. And thus the deceptions begin!
Sarah, being Amish, is pretty naive to the world’s ways. It was kind of refreshing but also led her into more and more lies she had to tell and promises she had to keep. It wore on her soul and kept her tied in knots. I found myself feeling sympathetic to her situation. Above all she kept feeling like she needed to ask for forgiveness both to God and to those she had deceived.
Jakob was a childhood friend that had courted Sarah’s older sister and they had broken up. Sarah had been in love with him for years but felt it a lost cause because of their history. Trying to keep Herman, the parachutist, and his assistant hidden was also getting harder and harder. They had hidden secrets too yet to be revealed. How will this affect their Amish community and the way Sarah is perceived? And will their secrets bring danger to the Esh household? This was a quick read for me because of how I was pulled into the story and how I was searching for answers along with Sarah. This is an absolute can’t miss for readers but especially for Amish fans!
I received a complimentary ebook copy of this book from the author through the publisher but was not required to write a review positive or otherwise.

Gift from Above is the third book in the Sisters and Friends series by Rachel J. Good. This story is about Sarah Esh, the youngest girl in the Esh family. Sarah held a secret in her heart and during the preparation for her sister Emma’s wedding she saw a man parachuting and landing on their hill. That’s only the beginning of another secret as she secured him and his partner in her Mammi’s daadi haus.

This story held a mystery thread to why Herman and Paul are in the area. The intriguing events that kept unfolding with the men and secondary characters kept the pages turning. Sarah tries to move forward thinking she’ll never marry because she is in love her long time friend Jakob, who had jilted her sister Lydia. This is a beautiful story of the past coming out, secrets being revealed, forgiveness and new beginnings for the hero, heroine and secondary characters. I’m sad to see this series come to end as the characters have become friends.

I was not required to write a review for this book as it was my own purchase. All thoughts expressed are my sincere ones.

Read this for a bookclub challenge where we all went to goodwill and chose a book to read from the selection. For some reason I was in the mood for an Amish romance, probably because I knew it’d be an easy read after some of the other books I’ve read lately. This was very melodramatic and I was not a fan of the ending, but fun for a change

This was quite a different story that I really enjoyed. The theme throughout the book was about trust and keeping secrets. Sarah has a close encounter one day with a man and a parachute. I can say with almost certainty that it is not usual to find a man falling from the sky in Amish Country. Sarah has such a good heart she immediately wants to help this mysterious man. I did think it was weird that Sarah went against her beliefs and hid two strange men in her home. She is almost innocent like in ways and agrees to let them stay hidden in their house. Her beliefs are that they are to help others and she couldn’t turn her back on them.

I got a big kick out of Sarah’s grandmother. That woman is gifted in discernment and knows these two men are hiding something, I loved how she insisted that they pray before meals and set them straight about their language. She is someone you don’t want to cross. God always provides divine appointments and I believe the day the parachute landed near Sarah , God was clearing a pathway for two men to find Jesus. He used Sarah and her grandmother to show them kindness as they showed compassion to strangers. I won’t say why these men were there, but it is a great storyline that allows readers to see what deceit can do and the chaos it causes.

Jacob and Sarah have been friends forever but lately feelings are growing stronger. When Sarah is once again asked to deceive someone that could hurt Jacob’s trust in Sarah what will she decide to do? I don’t think there is a mean bone in Sarah but she tries to please so many people, it is bound to come crashing down on her soon.

Get ready to have a front roll seat inside anAmish family as deceit, strange men, hurt, trust and a new beginning for several characters entertain us and teach us about being His hands and feet to others. Let us remember through this story that God is in control . What looks hopeless God can change into joy and in the midst of chaos it is possible for someone to find Jesus.

I received a copy of this book from Celebrate Lit. The review is my own opinion.

Gift from Above” by author Rachel J. Good is a delightful Amish Christian fictional tale. This is Book Three in her Sisters and Friends Series. I enjoyed the familiar faces from the past two books.

This is the story of Sarah Esther, youngest daughter in her family. Her sister, Emma, is getting married and they are preparing for her wedding. It is also the story of Jakob Zook. He was once Emma’s boyfriend and now taken with Sarah. Their relationship is a sweet yet anxious part of this.

As she was cutting more celery for the wedding, Sarah noticed something most uncommon. A man in a parachute was drifting down in their yard. He says he has broken his leg during the landing and needs help. Could there be more to this man than meets the eye? Will be be able to comply with Mammi’s rules?

This is an unusual yet interesting story that has many twists and turns. The characters are well rounded and easy to imagine. It is a page turner to see what happens when Englisch and Amish worlds collide. However, Sarah was a bit naive and too trusting even for an Amish young lady. The situation could happen to some degree.

Author Good has done a remarkable job taking me out of my reading chair and transporting me to Amish Country. I enjoy her style of writing and the research she does to make her novels realistic. The feisty older characters have become my favorites in her books. They provide humor and wisdom.

This book has life lessons, messages of faith, mystery, romance, and surprises. Everyone will enjoy it. I was thrilled to see a couple of recipes at the end of the book. It would make a nice book club choice because of the spiritual and life lessons. I definitely recommend this fiction selection. It gets a 4 out of 5 star rating from me. A copy was provided by Celebrate Lit, but these are my honest words.

While this is an author I’m very familiar with this is not a series that I am familiar with. This is the third book in the series and unfortunately, it’s the one I started reading firs tin the series. I may have to go back and find the other two now.

When I find an author I enjoy I normally read all of their books so I’m not sure how this series slipped through the cracks but we’ll remedy that soon.

You’re going to love getting to know Sarah Esh. She’s got her eye (and really has already lost her heart) to Jacob Zook. But things are a bit complicated for them even from the start (without her secret) because Sarah’s older sister jilted Jacob. Got all that? It’s definitely an interesting way to start a story!

The story contains a romance but the real story revolves around the mystery man who parachutes down in front of Sarah and how her vow to keep his secret turns into something more than she ever bargained for. To start with she involves her grandmother with hiding the man away. But then things start to happen and the story really heats up.

I highly recommend this book and I personally can’t wait to read the other books that come before. Currently, I don’t think that I missed out on anything by reading this out of order but I’ll know more what I did or didn’t miss after I read the other books.

Gift From Above is a whimsical story about an Amish community making preparations for a wedding when a mysterious man drops out of the sky in a parachuting accident. Many unexpected twists and turns in the story happen as a result of this man’s recovery at the grandmother’s house.

Right from the beginning, the reader can see, along with Sarah the main character that something shady is going on with this man by the way his attitudes and explanations don’t quite add up alongside the real events that are unfolding.

I enjoyed the humor and light-hearted feel of this story. I always like learning about the Amish lifestyle whenever I read a book of that genre. This book gives many of those insights and little details including recipes at the end.

Sarah, her friends, and family learn about forgiveness throughout the course of the story. She grows and changes by learning the importance of having the courage to be honest.

For anyone who likes reading clean fiction and Amish fiction in particular, this book is a good choice.

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

This Amish story starts off quite different than most I have read. A Gift From Above is the second book in this series and it features Sarah, the more shy one if the Esh family. But when a flying man lands on their property near Sarah, her life certainly makes some drastic changes. For one, this stranger wants Sarah to keep it a secret that he is there. But that proved to be the wrong thing to do.

I love Rachel Good’s Amish books because they take a twist from other Amish stories I have read. This one captured my interest from the start, from the parachutist landing in the Esh yard, to the lies that were told, to the real answers, this story takes readers on a journey that will keep you on the edge if your seats and keep you guessing until the end.

And though I enjoyed all of these amazing characters created by Ms. Good, Sarah and Jakob are my favorite. Sarah has such a kind and caring heart that shows throughout this book just as did the super nice guy Jakob is show. Overall this is a sweet Amish read with twists that make it quite the mystery. If you enjoy Amish, you will enjoy this one.

A special thanks to the author/publisher for a copy of this book. I am not required to write a positive review, the opinions here are mine alone. I am disclosing this with my review in accordance with the Federal Trade Commission’s 16 CFR, Part 255.

Having enjoyed the previous book in The Sisters & Friends series by Rachel J. Good, I was looking forward to continuing the series with Gift From Above. I found it to be just as delightful. Readers are able to catch up with characters from the previous story and meet new ones as well. The premise of the story is rather unique with Sarah, a naive young Amish woman, coming upon a man who fell from the sky and then hiding him--keeping him secret from her family and the community. Her Mammi knew as well and it was a bit humorous how she interacted with this big city guy and his friend...often reminding them they need to turn to God for His forgiveness and guidance. The characters are likable and relatable, strong and yet their flaws are there too. And, of course, there is romance. Sarah has loved Jakob, her sister's former boyfriend, for many years. Would they be able to look to the future instead of being bound to the past? Lots of twists to the plot keep interest high. I wouldn't mind if there were a fourth book in this engaging series, I'd love to continue to catch up with Sarah and her family.

Gift From Above is an incredible story written by Rachel J. Good. This story moves along quickly and becomes quite intense at times. I absolutely enjoyed this story for so many reasons. There is love, forgiveness, loss of love, and oh so much drama that the reader will not want to stop reading.

The characters are very likeable and realistic. I enjoyed Sarah and Mammi for many reasons. The author has developed each of her characters right down to their slightest flaw. I even enjoyed Herman for his own crazy attitude. I loved how the story played out and the conclusion was astounding.

I was not given a complimentary copy of this book to read and review. I was not approached by anyone to post a favorable review. I have rated this book with five stars for meeting my expectations of a spectacular story that I can very highly recommend to others who enjoy the Amish genre.

Congratulations to Rachel J Good for writing another incredible story for her readers to enjoy. I always look forward to more books written by this author.

I enjoyed reading this book about the Esh family, and Sarah is my favorite of the sisters. She’s the youngest sister and sometimes feels overlooked. She’s sweet and kind, almost to a fault. It’s her desire to help others that leads to a series of complications that leaves Sarah perplexed about knowing the right thing to do. She makes mistakes, but it’s done out of love and concern. It’s no wonder that everyone loves Sarah and depend on her for advice and help.

My other favorite character in this book was Sarah’s grandmother. Mammi took on the challenge of reforming her two unexpected visitors, and I loved the scenes when she was telling Roger and Herman just how things were going to be done in her house. Sarah and Mammi made a good team, and I’d love to see Mammi again in another book.

This is another heart-touching story from Rachel Good and now one of my favorites. If you are a fan of Amish fiction, don’t miss this one.

This book is the third book in the Sisters & Friends series about the Amish. Sarah is helping to prepare for her sister Emma’s marriage when a man drops from a plane using a parachute. From the beginning of this story almost until the end, secrets cause pain, hurt, and misunderstanding. Sarah becomes caught up in a web of deception because she tries to help the man from the plane. However, he only lies to her about everything from being injured to supposedly being in danger.

This story kept my interest because I wanted to see Sarah find happiness and love with her crush Jakob. Rebecca, her best friend, also gets caught up in the situation because of her boyfriend Abner who lies to her.

I think my favorite character is Mammi, Sarah’s grandmother. She is everything a grandmother should be including feisty, loving, honest, and determined.

So if you like Amish books, check out this book for yourself.

"Gift From Above" is the third book in the Sisters & Friends series and having read the first two books, I was exited to read Sarah's story. There are parts that give a little review of what happened in the previous books so it could be read as a standalone, but I feel it is better to read the books in order. I found the book to be well written. I liked the characters and empathized with Sarah on being caught in the middle of some situations. I was a little disappointed in the romance aspect as it didn't show them falling in love as Sarah was already in love with him and we only saw her point of view. I like watching the characters fall in love. There was a nice biblical faith element woven through the book. I look forward to reading more books by Rachel J. Good.

I got a free copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own and given voluntarily. No compensation was received for my review.

What I think you should know:
Gift from Above is an Amish FIction book by Rachel J Good. It is the third book in the Sisters and Friends series. It can be read as a standalone book, but it will give spoilers for the previous books in the series.

What I thought about this book:
I LOVE this book, it is far more than girl meets a boy, falls in love and lives happily ever after. The story had romance, but it also had mystery and comedy. I enjoyed reading about the antics of Mammi. Sarah has such a giving heart and kind spirit, she was willing to sacrifice her own dreams so that others would be happy. Jakob was a great character. I enjoyed getting to know him through the story. The backstory was just as entertaining as the romance portion. Good has once again written a book that will keep you engrossed from beginning to end.

I I received a complimentary copy of this book from Celebrate Lit, this in no way influenced my review. All opinions are my own.

Teacher Sarah Esh learns some hard lessons about honesty and trust in this touching Amish story. She also experiences firsthand how keeping secrets can lead to trouble. When some non-Amish men enter her life, her generous hospitality may bring unexpected problems to her community. However, that’s not the only problem Sarah faces—she also struggles with helping her best friend, fellow teacher Rebecca Zook, with a questionable relationship and continues to long for Rebecca’s older brother, Caleb, to notice her as more than a younger friend. The characters seem realistic even if some of the situations seem hard to believe. The tension increases as the tale progresses, keeping the reader engaged and longing for solutions to work out for these people they’ve come to care for. This is the third in a series and continues the story of the Esh sisters, but this novel can also stand alone. I received a copy from Celebrate Lit. All opinions are my own.

Gift From Above ( Sister & Friends - Book 3 )
By: Rachel J. Good
Gift From Above is book three by Rachel J. Good in Sister and Friends Series. This is my third book to read by Ms. Good , love her writing and hope to be reading more by this very talented author. I was grabbed right from the start and could not put it down. This is Sarah’s story and she has loved Jakob ever since they were kids, but he loved another. There are some pretty big secrets that are being kept in this story and Sarah is trying to keep the biggest. What will happen if this secret gets out? Will Sarah and Jakob ever have their second chance. I loved Sarah and her grandmother. I caught myself laughing out several times at these two.
I was given a complimentary copy off this book, but was not told that I had to give a positive review. All opinions are my own.

"GIFT FROM ABOVE" by RACHEL J. GOOD is a wonderful novel about trust and learning to not keeping secrets that shouldn't be kept. It is also about a second chance at love. This a story where Hollywood and the Amish meet.

I haven't read a book by Rachel Good that I haven't enjoyed and this book didn't disappoint either.

I know that isn't what the book is about, but I think it would be fun to have a mystery supper like the one that Sarah and Jakob goes to.

I truly recommend this book to all readers who likes romance stories and I also recommend it readers who don't usually read the genre of Amish. Yes, the book is Amish but it is more a story of trust and doing what is right and forgiveness.

I receive a complimentary copy by the author and Celebrate Lit and these opinions are mine own.

Gift from Above is book 3 in Sisters & Friends series by Rachel J. Good. I loved the continued story of Sarah and her family. That's been a accident on their property . The parachutist lands wrong on his leg and needs medical attention. Well right away he is demanding everything be kept secret from her family. But one piece of deceits leads her into many more problems. Finding out the truth and who they really are has she put her family in danger? What about her friendship with Jakob can it be destroyed. Now she may never know love if he finds out what she has done? Wonderful book. Well written and characters you will love. I love seeing the characters from previous books kept in and the story line continues. Great series pick it up.

The title of the book has a double meaning and you will have to read the story to see why. The youngest Esh sister, Sarah, is good at keeping secrets. So good that innocent people may get hurt and ruin her chance with the only man she’s ever loved, Jacob Zook. Jacob is drawn to Sarah’s kindness and honesty, but will her secret shatter that trust? Will she learn the valuable lesson that some confidences need to be brought to light before too many people are harmed? A fun read with kind of a ‘could that really happen?’ twist to it. I love the Amish family values Author Rachel Good portrays. She does her research well.

I really enjoyed reading Gift from Above by Rachel J. Good.
Sarah Esh has always looked up to Jakob Zook. Jakob had dated Sarah's older sister but she knows he will never think of her in a romantic way like he did her sister. Sarah unexpectedly meets an English man and his assistant who are in needs of Sarah and her family's help. Could Sarah's decision about helping them end up tearing apart their strong Amish community? Secrets are being kept that could damage relationships.
The author really brings the characters to life in this story. You will feel like you are right there with them in beautiful Amish country. They experience circumstances that we can all relate to including anger, frustration, hope, love and faith. A must-read!

Rachel J. Good's books are always a delight. She has a beautiful way of presenting the Amish life, story and beliefs with a wonderful dose of creativity.

Gift From Above was an enjoyable read with mystery and intrigue. I loved the twists and turns of the story.
Sarah was a wonderful character with a sweet heart, always willing to help people. A very loyal friend. I was sad with her because of the supposedly unrequited love from Jakob but I was giddy when they made it up. I loved her grandmother, sweet old lady.
One of the most admirable aspects of this book to me was the need for commiting issues into God's hands no matter how tough they look.

If you love Amish stories you'd love this one..

I received a copy of this book and this is my honest opinion.

Author Rachel Good spins a tale about a parachutist landing in Amish country, and being secretly cared for by an Amish maidel and her Grosmammi. Intrigue abounds in Gift From Above.

Good shows us that secrets and deception cause harm, even when we think there’s a good reason for them. And we see that there is forgiveness when we repent and come clean.

This is not your typical Amish story and is different than a usual Rachel Good story. I will admit that I struggled with it. It’s well written and holds your attention, but I prefer Good’s normal writing style where I learn new things about the Amish, and can enjoy their family relationships. But give it a try. You may love it as others have.

I received a complimentary copy of this book but was not required to leave a review.

The title has two meanings, one obvious, the other more subtle, as it relates to how a non-Amish man is found in need of help, which Sarah Esh provides, even though it requires that she keep secrets not only from her family, but from the man she wishes would see her as more than a little sister-friend.

But Jakob insists on a woman who is totally trustworthy, particularly after proposing to her sister, only to be rejected. His heart still hurts from that experience.

How Sarah finally comes clean--but only after that mysterious man has created havoc in her Amish family and threatens the entire community--provides her with an opportunity to get closer to Jakob, but will he believe her?

Gift from Above by Rachel Good is book 3 of the Sisters and Friends series. I was so excited to find this one. I read the first 2, Change of Heart and Buried Secrets, and loved them both. Gift from Above is Sarah's story, the youngest of the Esh sisters. It also continues with Emma's wedding. I really can't say enough good things about these books. I totally loved all three. I highly recommend the Sisters and Friends Series!

Gift from above

In the story Gift from above I kept trying to figure out where the title came from. I challenge you to read the book to see what you think.

Emma is preparing to get married while Sarah is helping a stranger that landed on their property. He is pretending to have a broken leg. What does he really want? I love how Sarah helps him out even though not sure what he is up to.

All around good story

Well developed characters and storyline. The naivete of the character's acceptance of the Englisher's cover story is the only premise that was difficult to swallow. Once accepted the rest of the story follows along. It shows quite the creative imagination of the writer.
