I feel like there's starting to get some plot device-y nonsense into the plot now, but my interest is still relatively engaged enough to see where things go. Peter and Sabine are now going to play much bigger roles I'm sure.

Also I feel like the nature of the vampire lords "trial" or "questioning" was sort of unethical. Like rifling around in her head and what not. Clara is shown to be exceptional for having no resistance to their ministrations which doesn't feel like... she's strong but that she's... a doormat. "Yeah you can poke around in my head no problem. Yeah I swear my allegiance to you, no problem." There were also enough moments where Clara just seem to lash out emotionally and do some dumb, thoughtless shit but I guess being 17 that's part of the program so...

Let's see where book #6 takes us.

A great continuation of Elliot and Clara’s tale. Can’t wait for book 6. Also waiting for them to become more intimate!

I was finally enjoying the series, then this book came along. While there were some "aw damn" moments, I was so annoyed by Clara and Elliot that the whole read was meh for me. Couldn't wait for it to be over, so I powered through.

It's obvious Clara's self righteous behavior is on purpose thanks to other characters pointing out the flaws in how she's behaving and acting, what she's done wrong, and how hypocritical she's being. Despite several people telling her the same thing, her ego is somehow too big to listen.

I guess there's a common trope in these going between worlds books. She's young, so yeah, she's going to be an idiot, it's kinda expected. But this belief that the strange new world these girls end up in should have the same kind of behaviors as their own and they wont budge on these beliefs and that everyone should start acting like they think they should instead of trying to understand the world is so annoying.

I get that conflict needed to happen for the direction this book needed to take, but by book five, I expect a character to be more likeable, for their annoying traits to be fading, for them to be growing and getting better. For their personality and character to become something worth cheering on for. But this book, Clara just devolves into a spoiled infant. The behavior doesn't match with how I'd consider someone to be traumatized by the way she was raised. There is a distinct lack of personality for all of the characters. They are each obviously different, yet they all lack anything deeper than what's on the surface. This makes it hard to connect with the characters, or understand why anyone might like them.

I did enjoy how Clara kept thinking so high of Nikki despite what she did to her, and how Nikki simply didn't care as much back. How she took enjoyment in seeing Clara get what's coming to her for being such a stubborn idiot. And even though Clara realizes her mistakes, she just calls herself naive when it's worse than that. She's an infant. An idiot. A know it all. Unyielding even when she's proven wrong. Her first instincts are to not believe the people who live in a world she barely knows anything about.

I also took joy in the vampire lords saying, oh well the bitch is gunna get what's coming to her, and how they treat her. It makes the book a little more tolerable to see Clara have to deal with the consequences of her actions. Which was likely done on purpose, and honestly, good job to the author in writing characters in these ways that cause these reactions, but I'm really hoping we see growth over devolving now that it's further into the series.

There's this foreshadowing the characters tend to do, but they always make it sound worse than it ends up being, so I find it more annoying than anything.

Also, I know people love Nikki the most, but to me she reads more like a character who has intrusive thoughts and just doesn't act on them. We're told she's crazy more than seeing how crazy she is supposed to be, so it's hard to consider her truly crazy and violent like she's portrayed to be. She's a tame, manageable crazy. The thing I do like about her the most is her liking Clara getting what's coming to her.

There was something at the end, too, that confused me. Here's a big spoiler so extra warning. Sabine's cell, Elliot had said to torch it, completely destroy it. Yet she is able to get into her former master because he's in the same cell she died in, which was "the plan." Does that mean the cell was destroyed and rebuilt? Was it never destroyed? Did the author forget that the destroy the whole cell thing even happened? It's so confusing!

I'm really looking forward to being done with this series. While I've read much worse, I think these kind of books just aren't for me.

Also, I may have misspelled names because I have the audible version so I don't know how any of the names are spelled. The narrator does a decent job, he has accents for everyone and is pretty good at them. But he lacks giving character to the characters, which makes them seem robotic a lot of the time. And one guy, he spoke so low I could barely hear.

The Witch's Peril" by Emma Glass is a captivating tale that intertwines elements of fantasy, adventure, and self-discovery. From the very first page, Glass's lyrical writing draws you into a world that feels both rich and alive, populated with vividly drawn characters and enchanting settings.

The story follows the journey of its protagonist, a young witch grappling with her powers and the weight of her heritage. Glass expertly navigates themes of identity, empowerment, and the perilous nature of knowledge. The character development is nuanced and introspective; readers will find themselves invested in the protagonist's struggles and triumphs.

One of the standout aspects of the book is the way Glass crafts her magical system. It feels organic and intricately tied to the characters' emotional landscapes, adding depth to the narrative. The challenges the protagonist faces are not just external but also deeply internal, making her quest relatable and poignant.

The pacing is well-balanced, with moments of tension and reflection that keep readers engaged. Glass doesn’t shy away from darker themes, making this story more than just a lighthearted fantasy. The stakes feel real, and the dangers faced by the characters heighten the sense of urgency throughout the plot.

Additionally, the writing itself is a joy to read. Glass has a way with words that creates vivid imagery, immersing you in the witch’s world with every sentence. The atmospheric descriptions, combined with a compelling plot, simply pull you in.

A lot has happened in this book, and loyalties are tested, not only on Vampire Earth but human Earth as well.
In the vampire world, a battle that appeared, at first, to be to the death is fought. This battle ended with a great cost and a small victory.

The great loss of this battle was Lorali. She has completely forgotten who she is and ultimately meets the end of her life after ensuring that her kids were as safe as possible and the vampire world would be prepared for what is to come.

With her death, the vampire Lords end up alterating the prior plans in order to see for themselves who Clara is at the base and if she would potentially become a problem. Due to the mistrust of Elliott and Clara's stubborness, she is set to stay a day at each Hold so they can decide her ultimate fate. During this time, Elliott makes good on winning his Hold's trust and support.

Meanwhile, Peter is still undergoing questioning violently until Vera decides to take a different approach and offer him a job. Will his loyalties change as I am sure they are to be tested.

Clara's judgment has been passed, Lorali has been buried, and things seem to be getting somewhat on track in the vampire world. But little do they know the vampire they put to sleep will not wake as he once was.... Sabean is back!!! She is linked to this "master" who is the entity ever present in Clara's dreams. I am anxious to see how this ties together more and more.

Audio Book Review 🎧📚

Not a standalone book, goes off context of previous books in the series

The FML is Clara a WITCH who 100% acts and believe she’s human. The MLC Elliot is a Vampire Lord in love with Clara. This was already established in the previous book.

I prefer strong willed female lead characters. Clara is a total push over in the worst possible way. The only time she puts her foot down ( aka has a temper tantrum) was when Elliot wasn’t Mr Perfect Lord anymore. I understand she’s a child and the author like to portray her innocence and naivety in romance. Usually Nikki, another Vampire Lord, balances out the read when it comes to female characters. However, Nikki took the back road in this book. This was probably my least favorite book in the series. The main plot of the story totally saved the book. I’m very excited to see the outcome of the humans.

This has been my least favorite of the series. Not only has the writing slipped significantly, but so did the plot. The characters were lazy. Also, I cannot be the only one who noticed the negative light cast on the only presumably Black character (the Lord over the entire continent of Africa (or the vampiric equivalent anyway). Why is this the evil character? At first I thought maybe I was imagining it until the author had Clara say that America was colonized by Africans. I’ve been able to overlook the limited writing because of a relatively interesting plot and one fascinating character, but I found nothing redeeming in this book.

A good read

A few spelling and grammar mistakes but perfectly readable.
An interesting part of the story, but I'm not sure if it was completely relevant. I think a lot was just page filler, however it was still a good read.

Interesting

The author has kept my attention so far but I honestly don't understand how one of the most important characters, clara, was chosen to be so young and stupid. Can't help but want to smack her upside the head. That said it's a very good read

An ok book. After the Vampire lords "battle" I felt there was a lot of filling before it got interesting again and then of course it ended!
I am enjoying the series enough to keep reading but they need to get better!
