One of five women who endured horrific trials to win the hand of Nicholas Cavendish, Lady Joanna Nethercott suffered greatly throughout the ordeal, ultimately losing to Victoria Hamilton. She swiftly finds herself sold by her own father, who’s determined she’ll be of use to him yet. For a year, she’s “trained” in preparation for marriage to Victoria’s brother, with whom she’ll be expected to produce heirs that will one day strengthen and continue the very society responsible for all of Joanna’s torment.
In the space of a breath, Theodore Hamilton is thrust into a secret society he knew nothing about, and married to a woman who seems terrified of his very existence. Suddenly, his carefree yet honorable life is filled with secrets and shadows, allies and enemies, leaving Theodore unsure who to trust…starting with his broken bride. His lure to the delicate beauty is tempered by external influence, lies and manipulation from all sides.
In this breathless conclusion to the Dark Sovereignty series, Theodore must decide where his loyalties lie, and race to destroy the evil men responsible for the immeasurable suffering of everyone he holds dear—including the wife he never wanted, but can’t possibly live without.

Fantastic conclusion to this gripping dark series, I devoured it pretty much in one sitting, I needed to know what was going to happen!
Theo is the dutiful but caring son, who has prepared his whole life to become Viscount Hamilton, blissfully unaware of the mask hiding his monster of a father's evil depravity. He firmly believes him to be the loving, honourable family man he has always portrayed.
Joanna has been to hell and is still living it. In the year following her being sold, she's been through a horrific ordeal; beaten and abused, all in the name of a sick society training her to be Theo's wife and produce the heirs to continue the corrupt and viscious Oakfield Society line. Joanna is being forced to play a cruel game, but Theo sees her fear and pain and instantly has an overwhelming need to protect her. Can she trust him or is he as bad underneath as his father? Can Theo see through the lies, betrayal and deceit and learn the truth about how evil and debased his father really is?
Anna Edward's has created two more wonderful characters in Theo and Joanna. Theo is a loyal, caring soul, who does not carry the sins of his father on his shoulders and is desperate to save his sister Victoria and newborn niece from the power of the Cavendish brothers. Joanna has been broken, body and mind, but there is a slither of hope and light left. This woman has an amazing inner strength despite her terrifying ordeal and the continued threats, even under the protection of Theo.
This book and this series has been full of suspense, twists and turns as well as moments of well timed humour. Brutal at times in it's descriptions, it's full of raw emotion, strength of character and a fight to the bitter end to save the women trapped in the society and turn it into something pure. I was hooked from the very first chapter and have loved the journey, as dark and unusual as it's been, these superb characters have been through to find love and reach their hea. Loved that epilogue :-)
I'm sad this series is over but excited for what comes next from Anna Edward's. Five stars!!
Wow!! What a thrilling end to a truly fantastic dark series Anna!! I LOVE IT
Anna has bought her characters and story to life and made me excited to keep reading, I was taken in and totally captured right from the first book, it's got better by the book the darkness and twisted parts made this a brillant read for me I am a great dark story fan, so this is a perfect and fitting end to her first dark story. I also loved the Epilogue I thought that finished this series off beautifully.
I have gone through so many emotions and been on the edge of my seat!! I loved every minute of it and if a book can move me to feel these emotions it tells me that the author has put their heart and soul into every sentence wrote
All I can add to this review is if you like dark reads this series is definitely for you, my love for dark reads was definitely fed.
This the last book in this series, and it's a perfect ending. A father's love is supposed to be unconditional, but the fathers of the two main characters in this story are deplorable. They need everything that's done to them in this story.
A Father's Insistence, is about how revenge can become a main purpose of a person's hatred, and how they would do and say anything to get what they want. This story has so many dark things happening, but with that eventually comes light. It's a good read about a family that over comes tragedy.
I have absolutely enjoyed this series and this is a brillant conclusion to Anna Edwards Dark Sovereignty Series It is dark so if you love dark I can recommend this. I found it really well written and it kept me on the edge of my seat till the end. If I could I would have given it more stars I can't wait to read more from this Author.
This is the third book in the dark sovereignty series and you won't be disappointed. This book is full of action and surprise's as there is a lot going on and wow it don't take a genius to work out that it's not going to end well for some. Without giving nothing away, the truth is all revealed to Theo, but of cause he doesn't believe and just takes what he wants to believe from it. This whole series is amazing loved it from start to finish . Happy reading
OH Wow! love it when i have just read a series and the dramatic ending is just how i wanted this to end.
This last book in the Dark Sovereignty series features on Theo and Joanna and how these two came to cross paths but not just cross paths it was how they came to be married in a secret ceremony to help Theo's dad, as Theo thinks his father's motives are pure and he just wants to bring down the two brothers of Nicholas and William Cavendish and take control of the Oakfield society. Not knowing the evil that surrounds him as he has been keep out of everything that has been going on,even when his sister told him of how she was sold by there father he still didn't believe.Joanna new everything but she has been abused for the last year and keeps it all quiet dreading what would happen to her if she told anyone what had been done to her.
This is a dark and twisted story where i just wanted to shake Theo up to see what his father was up to, but he thinks his father can do no wrong,it takes a while for him to see the evil that lurks around every corner. This was a intense story with plenty of plot twists just waiting round every corner to be discovered, loved how both the brothers Nicholas and William along with there wives where plotting to bring down the old society and change things for the better. It was gritty and dark with plenty of action that i never saw coming.
This had me on the edge of my seat through out this intricate story line which was incredible right till the very end, there was secrets and truths that was revealed in this finale book which you will have to read to find out.Five Huge Stars for this last book in the series.
I fell in love with this series when I read Legacy of Succession and it is by far one of my all-time favorite series! I absolutely love each and every book in this series and A Father's Insistence is no exception! Theo is Victoria and Tamara's brother from books one and two and he's been in the dark with how the society works and what both of his sisters have been through at the hands of their father. He is learning that his father is not who he claims to be and that not only has he put his sisters through hell, but another woman as well, one he now holds dear to his heart- his wife! Joanna has been held captive for a year and now she's married to Theo, doing what she was trained to do at the hands of his father, but she still isn't free. I love seeing how this beautiful woman gains her strength through love and finds a way to banish the demons that have taken hold of her. I also love how Theo becomes the man he was always meant to be with the help of the woman who loves him. This is such an amazing series and one I know I will re-read again and again!
A Father's Insistence, the third and final part of the Dark Sovereignty series by Anna Edwards is fantastic, the perfect ending for this dark romance series. I just wish it wasn't the end.
Theo Hamilton, the son of Viscount Hamilton has been living in the dark about the society, not knowing much about it except what his father tells him. Thinking that he is saving his family and his new wife, he believes everything. Joanna Nethercutt, the only other woman to have made it out of the trials alive, sold by her father to a monster of a man. A man that plans to use her to take control of the Oakfield Society. She goes along with the lies but will she realise that it's wrong? The Cavendish brothers, along with their wives are trying to steer the society in a new direction - will Theo succeed it taking them down? Or will the secrets revealed help him to change his mind?
Focussing mainly on Theo and Joanna but bringing the characters from the previous books in the series in to play as well. This is another well written part to the series, with plot twists that lead to more darkness for the characters. It ties up the story nicely and gives us a glimpse of what the future holds - is it the future you will expect? Read to find out.
I really enjoyed this pacy, dark-swirled romantic suspense
This is a series where each successive book has been even better than the last. I really do recommend reading A Father's Insistence if you enjoy a good romantic suspense that dips its toes (and feet) into the dark. However, whilst it is a complete story in it's own right, I do recommend that you read the other two books in the Dark Sovereignty series in order to fully understand the suspense element.
So I picked this up yesterday evening, intending to only read a chapter or two before going to bed. Yeah, big mistake. For me this was TOTALLY one of those books where you 'just need to read the next few pages' before you can put it down. I didn't even dare look at what time I closed the book, but it wasn't until I'd reached the very end of the epilogue - oops. I can totally go to work on a few hours sleep.
I found it easy to connect to Theo and Joanna, they felt believable and were both incredibly likeable. The author did a very good job of writing the deception element of the story. Why wouldn't someone believe their father's version of events, when there has never been anything to raise your suspicion? I did feel he accepted too easily, but that was only a very minor part of the story. Particularly as subsequent events would have distracted him from pursuing it further.
Joanna felt broken without feeling weak, her responses to events were believable and well explained. Whilst I struggled to totally believe Theo was utterly in love with her after such a short time together, Stockholm Syndrome and her view of him as a rescuing hero made it easy to believe Joanna's feelings. What is undeniable is the strong chemistry between the pair, they certainly heat up your kindle!
Personally I thought the epilogue 'felt' different to the rest of the book. I loved knowing what had happened to people etc. though I would have been just as happy with a very simple event showing how the 'Society' had changed.
This trilogy was my introduction to the author, but it's definitely not going to be the last book I read by her. Her writing, character development, exciting plots and ability to weave a twisty tale leave me needing more of it.
This was a great ending to this dark series. Theo is blind to his fathers sinister activities, and refuses to believe his sister when she tries to tell him the truth. One day Joanna is brought into his life in terrible shape, and he swears he will protect her and bring justice to the person who did this to her. Their love story is heartbreakingly beautiful, and I’d recommend this book.
This is the intense, twisted and darkly delightful conclusion to this series. Theo and Joanna's story really moved me. From her suffering, to his ignorance of the situation, this lost pair were perfect for each other. There is of course, plenty of drama, suspense and emotional turmoil to grab and keep your attention. This has been an amazing series and this was a very satisfying and enjoyable way for it to end. This is my honest, voluntary review.
Wow another great book in this series. This is book three of the Dark Sovereignty series. Best book so far!!! Dark theme. Author did a fantastic job writing this story. Stayed up just about all night to finish this story. Definitely a must read. Absolutely loved this entire series.
I devoured this book! No way could I put it down, I’ve loved this series from the start but this one, it grabbed me and wouldn’t let go. Joanna and Theo...... what can I say? Joanna story is absolutely heartbreaking, my heart broke for her and I so wanted her to heal so she could move on.
I hope you take the time to read this whole series so you can fully understand what is going on and the pain these women have been through. It’s gritty, dark and will break your heart. This is a great read and the author did a fantastic job telling the story,
Great ending of The Series. Full of dark Times and rawness. Plot and characters were captivating here. I was shocked at how deep everything was rooted but who knows what will happen next. Theodore and Joanna's story has everything I'm looking for in dark reads where everything can be an illusion! The whole process of getting The idea on his mind was well done by The author.
I received an arc of A Father's Insistence late last night and just couldn't wait to start it. I honestly couldn't put my kindle down until I reached 'the end' and the conclusion to this gripping story. This is the final installment in the trilogy and I do believe you should have read the other books before this one for continuity, plus you really don't want to miss a page of this exciting series.
This book continues the story line of the series, however the focus is predominantly on Theo and Joanna. We already know that Nicholas and William Cavendish are trying to bring down the secret society that they were born into and since they are fighting evil, until situations arise, you never know just how strong a hold the society has in manipulating others and whether the brothers would be able to overcome it on their own. This is what I loved about the whole series - who can you trust? Who is orchestrating what? How will situations unfold? The suspense throughout kept me turning the pages on my kindle for the answers.
The characters are perfect for the story. There were scenes in the book that were hard to read because of the actions of some of the less pleasant characters in the series, and this book does come with a warning about them. Reading the final few chapters was more than I could of ever hoped for. As much as I want to say more, I really don't want to give away any spoilers.
I must finish this review by saying please read the book - I would totally recommend it.
Another night with little sleep, but so worth it! This is the final book in the trilogy, this one featuring Theo and Joanna’ story as well as wrapping up all the loose ends from the previous books. It bugged me Theo was so stubborn, extremely stubborn. At times you may want to take him to the back shed and beat some sense into him! Thankfully when he realises the error of his ways he quickly sets about to right the wrongs. A great series for those who love their books dark and have NO triggers.
A Fathers insistence is book 3 of the Dark Sovereignty series, and the most stunning conclusion it is! This story is Theo's and Joanna's but includes Nicholas and Victoria and William and Tamara. Theo is drugged and forced to marry Joanna, thinking his Father's motives are pure But Theo thinks his Father can do no wrong. Joanna knows better, As do the other two couples, what will it take for Theo to see the evil that lurks all around him, who will die or be harmed? I must say there was an epic bit near the end! This series was AMAZING! The story and the writing was well done!
A Father’s Insistence is the last instalment of this dark series and what an intense and suspenseful end it is...I think this book made me feel every emotion: I felt angry, sad and frustrated at times, but also there are some funny and joyful moments, providing a counterbalance to the more sombre themes.
The author has created a fascinating world populated by an equally intriguing group of characters. This is Theo and Joanna’s story but whilst they are central to the plot, the other individuals and couples both good and bad from the previous books in the series also play their parts. Theo is a good man and although his loyalties are misplaced his actions always come from good intentions. Joanna has suffered terrible abuse and should be broken, but in truth she has a strength of character, which has kept her strong in the face of the depravity she has endured.
There are secrets and truths to be revealed in this final episode and an evil manipulative foe to be vanquished, but when the enemy hides in plain sight it is not always possible to protect the vulnerable and innocent.... This was a riveting finale and the epilogue provides a wonderful insight into the future of those left standing...I received and advanced copy of this book from the author.
A Father’s Insistence is the intensely powerful conclusion to the Dark Sovereignty series by Anna Edwards. Its dark and unscrupulous characters will send chills down your spine.
We come full circle with the story of Theo (Victoria’s brother and Viscount Hamilton’s son) and Joanna (from Legacy of Succession). Theo lives his life in the dark. He takes everything his father says as gospel, so he is easily manipulated. He is reluctant to believe that his sister is happy and settled with her new life as he has been poisoned against the Cavendish brothers.
Nicholas and William are trying to pull the Oakfield Society out from their crude and evil practices of the past and into a brighter future, they are however up against high ranking members of society who feel it is their right to be able to do with and treat people (women) however they please. The battle lines have been drawn; the sacrifice for the brothers may be too high a price to pay to be rid of the Society for good.
Joanna is lost. Drowning in humiliation, she is conditioned to do as she is told and only what she has been ordered to do. She fears for her life in the hands of the Viscount, but things are about to change. The Viscount has arranged for his son to marry Joanna and produce an heir, a son who will carry on his legacy. Theo has no idea of his father’s plan and follows every step, except, he is nothing like his father.
Theo is kind and sweet to Joanna, not about to take advantage of a woman he believes has spent the last year in captivity and broken in a million different ways. This allows for them to spend time together, for a proper relationship to build, feelings to develop and blossom under the right conditions.
This is beautiful love story wrapped up in a crown of thorns, desperate to break free, spread its wings and live in the light, rather than being crushed by darkness. There are still some rather steamy moments, as Theo is all man where it counts as well *insert winky face*. An explosive ending with a few surprise twist up her sleeve, Anna delivers a compelling end to her legacy!
A Father's Insistence is the final book in this series and i'm pretty sure it's my favorite of the three stories. This book is so heart stoppingly good! we get to uncover secrets, of murder and kidnapping, lies and deceit and a trust that is broken by those you'd least expect. This book is such an eclectic whirlwind of emotions with an explosive action packed storyline. The story is so very dark and delicious that I just couldn't put it down. I devoured it in one go as it held me so captive right from the very start. My heart absolutely bled for Joanna, for all the pain and suffering that she went through, for the life she was forced to live and for the love she still had to give, she was an amazing heroine. Theo is such a great hero, and even though it takes him a little while for things to fall into place for him and realise how blind he has been, he soon shows his mettle and steps up and shows them all the kind of man that he really is. This has been a series with some really great writing and a brilliant plot. I'm sorry this series is at it's end but it certainly has a very fitting ending in fact it's just perfect!
Theodore grew up in a sheltered life....protected from the dark and evilness of his father. He was at the ceremony when Nicholas chose Victoria to be his leaving Joanna at the mercy of the highest bidder. Joanna was bought, hid, abused, and neglected by Theodore's father. He would continue for a year until the time was right and misled Theodore into thinking it was the Cavendish brothers who mistreated Joanna. Theodore wed Joanna to protect her. By Joanna's omissions, she validated Theodore's father's story.
Theodore immediately felt a connection to Joanna and wanted to protect her. Slowly, Joanna came out of her shell and disclosed the real truths of abuser.
This was the wrap up of the Dark Sovereignty series and was wonderfully written. You could feel the connect between Theodore and Joanna and cheered her on to come forward. I absolutely loved the ending which is actually the beginning of the new generation.
Another well-written story Anna!
What do you have up your sleeve for your next project? hmmmmmmm? :)
Fantastic conclusion to an outstanding series! A Father’s Insistence is the dramatic ending to the dark society of depraved evil men. The focus is on the dynamics of Theo and Joanna. Theo is so loyal to his father he’s blinded by what everyone is telling him and the telling signs he sees but chooses to ignore. Joanna is so scared and paranoid that she’s willing to do anything not to go back into the clutches of the Viscount. I loved seeing how both Theo and Joanna came to trust and love one another. How their relationship, even though based on lies, still flourished and blossomed. Ms. Edwards just did a phenomenal job with the writing of this trilogy. Her words kept me hooked to each book. The plot and storyline were incredible! It had me on the edge of my seat and my heart pounding hard. And the characters are an unforgettable group. Strong and courageous. Especially the women! Enjoyed every minute of reading this book and the previous ones as well.
A must read book! This book pulled me in from the beginning. It’s dark, with lies and secrets. When the secrets and lies come out things don’t turn out well for some. I love the characters. This is one of my favorite dark books. I haven’t read the second book, although I believe I read the first one when it first came out. I totally am going to go back and read from the first and go through the series. If you like dark books this is a MUST READ! *Magic Beyond The Covers Book Blog*
Warning there is definitely Triggers ! Oh my gosh wow ...... I'm in shock ! I absolutely loved this whole amazing series ... Each book in this awesome series I have sat and read in one sitting only going to bed once I'm finished then laying awake just not being able to switch it off .... Anna Edwards is one of my favourite authors as she keeps me on the edge of my seat just wanting more and this series is no exception ! But Anna if you read this I still think you maybe a little evil lol .... just so everyone knows I am claiming William (I'll share with Tamara) he's just so cute in all three books I wish there was more people like him in this world or at least in my world 🌎
Definitely a must read ! Well done Anna on another amazing series!
What a fabulous ending to a spectacular series! This book was filled with tension, drama, and erotic scenes. I love how everything came together in the the lives of all these characters. I loved this series and A Father's Insistence was a perfect finale!
Just WOW this was the perfect ending and everything I could of asked for these characters are truly amazing and written to perfection with such intense scenes that will have you biting your nails and cheering all at the same time. I loved seeing the characters from the previous books but Theo was such a great character with so much heart and determination and who to believe with so many truths and lies and trying to do the right thing and be proud. Joanna is one lucky woman and so so strong these two are so full of heart even though it might be wrong but the perfect fit and Im so happy with the way the story turned out and that ending oh wow it was perfect and complete and I couldn't ask for more
Anna Edwards capped off an amazing series with a book that knocked me over and wiped me out. Seriously, out of a series of books that I really loved, I think this one was the best. It totally brought everything together and Joanna's story was just boom. I have to say, that I really liked Joanna more than I liked Theo.
Joanna was sold when Nicolas Cavendish didn't choose her. She was bought by a man who did all manner of horrible, terrible, and disgusting things to her. Now she's been set free by the man who bought her, so that she can marry his son and they can take over the society.
Theo believes everything his father tells him, including that Nicolas is abusing his sister Victoria and that William is abusing Tamara. Theo doesn't believe the ladies when they tell him that he is wrong, and he sees the fact that they aren't allowed to go to his house anymore as just one more sign that the guys are evil instead of a sign that they love their wives. Then his father presents him with Joanna and says that he has to marry her to keep her safe.
I think Theo is rather stupid. Or maybe a lot stupid. I think that he is also naive. He listens to his father and believes every word as gospel out of that man's mouth. He didn't believe the evidence of his own eyes, even when he sees it repeatedly. I don't think that he thinks all that much of Victoria and Tamara to believe that they are so weakwilled.
I think that Joanna is so strong and so amazing. She survived hell and made it through the other side and came out of it relatively sane. I know that I wouldn't have been that sane or that strong after going through what she did. That is totally impressive, if you ask me. I think that Theo should be so happy that he married her for so many reasons.
I cried at some parts, and definitely got mad at other parts, mostly at Theo's dad and at Theo too. He kinda deserved it when I got mad at him.
Altogether, a spectacular end to a a great series.
4 1/2 Star Read. This is the final installment in the Dark Sovereignty Series and you won't be disappointed. This is Theo's and Joanna's story and how they came to be together and get married. Theo needs to become head of dark secret The Oakfield Society since that is the only way to turn it around and get rid of its dark past. Theo is blissfully unaware of all the evil his father has been up to and just how evil the Oakfield Society can be, even down to not believing his sister's personal story when she tells him. I loved this story as it was dark and full of twists and turns you don't see coming like in the other two books in the series. I received a copy (thank you) for an honest review for Naughty Nightie Book Blog. There are lots of secrets to be revealed in this deep mysterious dark plot and Anna doesn't disappoint. I loved the great ending as justice is finally able to be dished out. Loved the epilogue showing us a peek at the characters thirty years into the future and how life is for them now.
