Everything you didn't know about the Casey Anthony Trial

Rate this book
Everything You Didn't Know About the Casey Anthony Trial skips the traditional narrative and instead provides a step by step roadmap for understanding the verdict. While a guilty verdict may have seemed like a foregone conclusion, the jurors had some very good reasons to question the prosecution's story--reasons that were never mentioned in the heavily sensationalized media coverage.

4.5 stars— I discovered “Everything You Didn’t Know About the Casey Anthony Trial” by S.K. Patton when I was searching for true crime books in Kindle Unlimited. There are so many bad books on high profile criminal cases, I wasn’t expecting much. But I have to say, I was pleasantly surprised by this short but very enlightening treatment of the Casey Anthony trial. Patton takes a different approach than most authors in that he assumes you know the basics of the Casey Anthony case. He then immediately takes you step by step through the reasons why he believes she was found not guilty. After reading prosecutor, Jeff Ashton’s, book, I couldn’t believe the jurors came back with a not guilty verdict. However, Patton lays out the reasons why the jurors came back with a not guilty verdict in a compelling issue by issue format that really made me understand the weaknesses in the Prosecutor’s case. The author obviously attended the trial and was able to gain keen insight into what went wrong for the prosecution and why he agreed with the verdict. I was very impressed with the author’s analysis and really believe his opinions will enlighten anyone who followed the media’s account of this case and was unable to understand how Casey Anthony was able to walk free. If you like true crime and enjoy reading about trials, this is the book for you.

Honestly, I went into this book knowing with 100% certainty that it would not change my mind about Casey's guilt. She killed her daughter, end of story. Or so I thought.

This book is a culmination of a Reddit Unresolved Mysteries post series so it is not perfectly written or edited. It reads more like a conversation than anything. However, regardless of the tone I found this book to be very persuasive. I do wish there was a works cited page but a lot of the information came from police interviews and courtroom testimony that can easily be found online.

It was incredibly insightful in regards to how and why the jury voted to acquit, which was something I could not wrap my head around before.

In my opinion, I'm now convinced that Caylee's death was accidental but that Casey and possibly George Anthony covered it up. Which still makes her (and him, if he is involved) guilty. Perhaps not of murder but of disgusting, immoral, horrific actions nonetheless.

Caylee deserved so much more from the people who were supposed to love and protect her.

A Time Waster

Why in the world I wasted my time reading this book is as good a question as asking what really happened to Caylee Anthony... which, by the way is this authors closing remark. The first ten chapters are spent explaining away Casey Anthony's bizarre behavior, destroying the State's case against her, and castigating George and Cindy Anthony. The only chapter worth a read is the last one, unless you want to convince yourself that Casey Anthony is a misguided victim herself, which is exactly how this author portrays her.

I thought this was a really enlightening and compelling look at the Casey Anthony trial. Definitely recommend this to anyone who is familiar with the Casey Anthony case and finds themself confused about how the trial ended. My only word of advice would be to brush up on your knowledge about case and the trial before reading - if you don't already have some good foundational knowledge of the case you will be very confused. I found myself really swayed by Patton's ending arguments about what really happened back in 2008.

2.5, up. It was interesting. Very conversational in tone, some tangents and asides, but I didn't mind it all that much—kind of what I was expecting going into the it.

I liked the book because it answered a lot of questions that were either blown out of proportion by the constant media or were not addressed at the trial. it goes through the timeline step by step and is very informative. i've always felt this was an accident that was covered up with no clear exit strategy. the lack of planning makes me feel it was not pre-meditated.
I have a few more questions for the author but i'll save for another time.

A new thought.

This book brings very interesting details to light that almost all of the world ignored. I think it is a great look at another side of the case that most people have never thought about. No one wants to believe she truly may have not been a monster. Why I may think she should be in prison this is a great look at the other side of that.

New insights to consider

Very well written examination of the jury's reasoning for not convicting Casey Anthony of murder. The author put forth several arguments I had not considered before. Recommended for anyone with an interest in the case, no matter what you believe about what happened.

Good Investigation

This was probably the best explanation of the bizarre events surrounding the Casey Anthony case I've ever come across. While at times the writing style was more like a forum post than a book, it was easy to forgive because the information was so solidly researched and easy to comprehend.

I listened to the Casey Anthony trial in its entirety and devoured all of the documents related to her case (thanks, Florida Sunshine Law!), and I believe Caylee died by accidental drowning. The pieces I struggled with were George’s level of involvement and the Internet search for “foolproof suffocation.” After reading the author’s thoughts, most of which align with my own, I think I have a clearer understanding of what might have led to the search for “foolproof suffocation” (I didn’t realize the link Casey, presumably, engaged with ideated suicide, since this information wasn’t leaked during the trial itself), but I’m still wavering on George’s level of involvement.

It’s a great read for those who followed the case and trial through the lens of the media.

Title, description and reviews inaccurate.

This is not "everything you didn't know ", it is certainly not unbiased, and it is far from the definitive representation of anything. Presents assumptions as facts repeatedly then uses them to connect point after point against George, even if it's a stretch but makes excuses for Casey and why things aren't what they look like at almost every turn. Makes big leaps when it works, leaves out info that doesn't support her pov and picks and chooses what does. Extremely slanted towards Casey and defense consistently. Read with a critical eye and don't let this be your only source of information or influence on your opinion because a significant amount is left out and a lot is represented in a way to direct you to conclusion.

Worth the Read

The Casey Anthony case has been discussed endlessly but believe it or not here is a very respectable analysis that brings out ideas that are new. The author really scours the history and the trial events, explaining what the jury heard and importantly, what it didn't hear. The hot body nightlife of Casey Anthony following her child's death is seriously refuted. The crazy family situation is explored. The slippery dad who has some real mental issues is revealed. Worth a read.

A decent read to say the least!!!

Going into this book my feelings were based on what I read and learned from the media. I was in the camp which felt this was nothing but murder and how Casey was acquitted was beyond my comprehension. Then I read this book, and in all honestly, I have to admit that everything I thought I was justified in believing was replaced with factual truths, hopefully. It just goes to show that the media is all-powerful when it decides to sell a certain view to the public!!!

This was extremely interesting and goes a long way in explaining how and why the Casey Anthony verdict came about. It never made any sense to me but after reading this, I do have some fresh options regarding how to look at this case.

Very good!

I was wondering if Casey really killed her daughter. I'm still sure but I think ol' Grandpa was very involved in this poor baby's murder.of course when precious was in the trunk of Casey's car... I don't know; it's a lot to think about. I enjoyed reading this book! A lot of details we would've never known.

Best true crime read in ages

I read this after listening to Last Podcast on the Left’s first Casey Anthony episode and then finding the author’s series of Reddit posts on this case. I wasn’t interested in the case before, but this book pulled me right in, and brought so many issues with the trial’s media coverage to light. It was a quick read (but not too quick) and very well-written, and I definitely recommend it if you’re a true crime fan who either hasn’t gotten into this case before or has only been exposed to the Nancy Grace media circus coverage.

Interesting! Clears up a lot of loose ends!

This was an in-depth look at what happened to Caylee Anthony, based on trial testimony. Gave a whole new slant on what probably happened. Not murder at all - accidental death (drowning?) and a horrifically dysfunctional family who couldn't cope. SAD!
