Lost.: A Collection of Poetry and Prose

Rate this book
To those who have loved, to those who have lost. We all grieve in our own way; there is no right or wrong. Everything I have written about in these pages is from my past. These people, these ideas, have shaped who I am, and despite most of them leaving holes in my heart, I am stronger because of them. This is my before, my denial, my faith, my acceptance, and it is not balanced; this is my own journey, one drenched with pain, one that won’t be easy to carry out with me. But these words are for you, to remind you that you never suffer alone, and that there is always beauty on the other side of the battlefield.

An e-copy was sent to be with the author in exchange for an honest review.

It isn't new that I do not like modern poetry - I tried, but I can't seem to connect with it. However, when the author asked me if I would love to read her collection, I said yes, mostly because of the two other reviews posted here. I wanted to see by myself if it was that good, so I agreed on reviewing it. Plus, as it is poetry, you don't really loose any time reading it: I can usually read a collection in less than an hour.

Even though I still don't like the genre, which is why I can't give it 5/5 stars, I still thought it was beautiful and good. I could relate to some poems, others touched me and it was as if the author was talking to me. I really loved how she played with words sometimes, which made the whole thing more striking (for example, she played a lot with the word "fix" and I adored it). The whole thing felt new, it wasn't like any other poetry collection I ever read before and that's why I gave it such a high rating.

I also loved it because it was diverse. The character, or the author I never know, talked about love and had experiences with both women and men. That really convinced me to give it 4 stars instead of 3 as I usually do when I don't like the genre.

If you love poetry, then you are definitely going to adore this one. It truly deserves more love!

Look, honestly, most of the time when I read books from Kindle Unlimited, especially poetry collections, I'm not expecting much. But this fucking blew me away. A lot of the early poems really resonated with me, but the ones from the 60% onward mark had me feeling it deep in my gut. It felt as though Cristina Filomena took all my deepest thoughts and fears and put them into poems. I absolutely adored this one (and Cristina is Canadian so that makes all of this 100% better).

I'll write a full review on Books and Ladders!

I decided to purchase this book after following Cristina on Instagram. I wanted to show a fellow indie author and poetess support. After reading this book I realized that it is more new school poetry, which is great because I like a mixture of old and new school poetry.

What I liked about the book was the fact that the author used quotes from other people and played with words. It was unique to see famous quotes in a poetry book. It was like getting small dosages of a self-help book along with poetry.

The best part of the book for me was the second half. The first half was just ok to me because I am not a big romantic poetry type of girl. I do some here and there but I am more of a realistic poetry lover. Overall the author did a good job poetically describing her journey and feelings.

I highly recommend this, don’t hesistate to buy your own copy.

I know these words are so cliche but it truly was so raw and so real. It was very vulnerable and it was also empowering and comforting and that was a pleasant surprise.

Cristina has a very sincere perspective on life based off her experiences, and you can tell her writing is definitely her own genuinely original and authentic work.

It was relatable and easy to read, with clear conviction and so much emotion. I just couldn’t be happier having read it!

“…But we have to remember
that we are not broken, and we are not lost.”

Thank you to the author for offering me a free eBook in exchange for a review. All opinions expressed in this review are my own.

I was very lucky to be able to read some of this material when it was still in draft form, and ever since, I have been excited for it to make its debut into the world. lost. is Cristina's debut poetry collection, and it is so rich and poignant with feeling that when I first started reading it, I was blown away with how much of her soul she poured into it.
