Excerpt from Authorised Guide to the Tower of London
The present buildings are partly of the Nor man period but architecture of almost all the styles which have flourished in England may be found within the walls. It is well to remember that though the Tower is no longer a place of great military strength it has in time past been a fortress, a palace, and a prison, and to view it rightly we must regard it in this threefold aspect.

The book had a lot of historical details. I went through there 30 years ago & it would have been nice if I'd known some of this then so that I could see it.
Written over 100 years ago this guide to the Tower of London is an interesting, quick read. It provides information on how it was built, when certain parts were renovated and the historical imprisonments and deaths that occurred.
It is written as a guide so that it will say, for example, on your left you will see.... This makes the reader feel as though you are at the Tower of London. I particularly liked the historical facts provided as the guide described each room. It informed the reader of which famous figures where imprisoned in which rooms. It also explained where famous executions took place.
An interesting guide that I would recommend to people that are going to the Tower of London or for those that would like a crash course in the history of this famous building.
I downloaded this as a free Kindle book. I guess I knew it was a tour guide when I downloaded it. I wanted more information about the Tower. It wasn't really what I expected. I guess what I should do is look for a book on spooky stories about the Tower. But it describes so many fascinating things to see in the Tower, that it's assumed the reader is experiencing while reading about them, that it made me yearn to go and see it. Like I didn't already feel that way before...
