Best friends Adi and Gabi love to play with Adi's toy train. Round and round it goes-choo choo! Watching it loop the track gives the girls an idea. These scientific thinkers use their computer coding knowledge to put the train to work! The Capstone Interactive edition comes with simultaneous access for every student in your school and includes read aloud audio recorded by professional voice over artists.
“Loops make it so that programmers don’t have to repeat commands.”
The story revolves around Adi and Gabi as they notice that the mail carrier’s and the bus driver’s jobs include loops ... repeated activities that need to continue until they are all completed. Lots of other jobs include loops, as well. Excited about their new learning, they decide to try it out with a train set that they have been given. They write their own “programming loop” for the train to drop off and pick up people and packages.
The end of the book includes a challenge for the reader to try to write their own code for a given situation. It also includes a glossary and some more questions to consider to “Think in Code!” A good source for kids who are just getting interested in computer programming.
Loving this series! Using this to introduce loops and various coding vocabulary that is introduced in this book. Thank you to the diverse programmers out there showing the way and modeling for our young students. I see you! I am grateful for you! We are so excited for our Computer Science December with Hour of Code and this series of books!
This is a book I chose to read to my son for his bedtime routine but I don't think he got as much out of it as I did. It was really neat seeing how parts of programming can be compared to everyday life. It may be a children's book but I would recommend this one to anybody trying to understand more about how computers work.
