Friedrich Gottlieb Klopstock war ein deutscher Dichter. Er gilt als wichtiger Vertreter der Empfindsamkeit.

Klopstock gab der deutschen Sprache neue Impulse und kann als Wegbereiter für die ihm folgende Generation angesehen werden. Er war der erste, der mit seinem Messias Hexameter in der deutschen Dichtung verwendete, und seine Auseinandersetzung mit dem „deutschen Hexameter“, wie er es nannte, führte ihn zu seiner Lehre vom Wortfuß. Dies bereitete den Weg für freie Rhythmen, wie sie dann beispielsweise Johann Wolfgang von Goethe und Friedrich Hölderlin nutzten.
