She was his best friend's little sister... He was the boy who'd always fought to protect her.

She was his best friend's little sister... He was the boy who'd always protected her.
I've loved Evan Morgan ever since I was a little girl. Growing up, he was my best friend. I thought he always would be. Turns out, I was wrong.
September 30th was the day my world shattered. In the blink of an eye, everything changed.
Now, my heart is broken. My life is chaos. And my mind? It's a mess.
The only thing that still makes sense is how I feel about Evan. I love him more than anything, but it's not enough anymore. I'm tired of chasing after him, tired of being held at arm's length.
I can't live like this any longer. It's time for me to let him go. Walking away will destroy me. Yet what other choice do I have?
Warning: Have a box of tissues on hand before diving in.

J.E. Parker is a multi-genre author of sexy, heart-wrenching romances that will make you laugh, cry, and swoon. A self-proclaimed hot mess and coffee connoisseur, she writes books featuring strong heroines, panty-melting heroes, a heaping serving (or two) of angst, and guaranteed happily ever afters.
I wish I would have read the previous books of the series. I got a little lost as I’m bombarded with too much information about the characters from the other books. But the writer did great work to find my way about the stories of these characters. I chose to start with this book because I read the blurb and thought this is an incredible and poignant story of two lost souls. And I knew I did it right. Especially last %15 of the book was so heart wrenching, emotional and full of ugly cries. It deserved all the points from the last part. I’m so interested in Shelby and grandmama who are real badass, colorful characters. I think I have to read the other books in near future.
Here I sit, surrounded by tissues, chocolate, and empty glasses. My mascara is ruined. Why I chose today to not wear waterproof is beyond me because it is long gone. I look like the happiest trash panda in the world right now all because of this book. I thought J.E. Parker’s writing was incredible before, but this book, I have no words. Mind blowingly epic is the closest I can think of. I cannot say enough how absolutely amazing Every Promise You Made is.
I probably (definitely) looked insane while I was reading this. I went from full on ugly cry sobbing, to laughing hysterically, to sobbing happy tears more times than I can count. The terrified look on my husband’s face as he slowly backed out of the room when he walked in on me reading is one I’ll never forget. This book hit me THAT hard. I went into this already fully attached to these characters. This entire crazy family is one of my favorites, but nothing could have prepared me for how much I loved Evan and Hope.
Their story is one of the most powerful and emotional stories I have ever read. Their love is one of the biggest most epic loves I’ve ever seen. These two will steal your heart and take over your world when you read this and I promise you will love every second of it. I can’t even begin to try to explain the magnitude of how incredible they are together. Between them shattering my heart and putting it back together and the tight knit bond of this giant family I never wanted this book to end.
I’m dying for more in this series now! I can’t even pick who I’m most excited to see get their story out of all the amazing characters in this series, all I know is I need more!
Wow, this book is deep! So many emotions and feels.
Every Promise You Made is the story of Evan Morgan and Hope Petersen, who have known each other forever. Evan and Ryker, Hope's brother, have been best friends since kindergarten. They were inseparable. Ryker and Hope are extremely close, and Hope is always around. She's always felt very close to Evan, and has been in love with him since she was 4.
Evan has been in love with Hope forever as well, but feels like he can't act on it. The night before he leaves for the Marines, he finally kisses Hope and tells her that she's his forever. Evan and Ryker had for Iraq where tragedy strikes, and it breaks both Hope and Evan.
Fast forward three years. Hope is now a social worker helping victims of domestic violence in Georgia. Evan lives there too, with Hope. He's a security guard at the shelter she works at. Hope tries and tries to get close to Evan, but he constantly pushes her away. Until she tells him she's done trying, and he decides it's time to man up.
So, I didn't read the first two books in this series (and I'm honestly kind of glad, because it sounds like they were rough [about abuse]). Not having read them, I wasn't familiar with all of the characters, though the author did a very good job of filling us in. My biggest complaint, for lack of a better word, is there are SO many characters that it was often hard to keep up.
With that being said, the characters in this book were really great. Grandmama is particular was a hoot. Shelby was great, and the guys were too. I liked the characters, even when I had a hard time remembering who they were!
Back to the main characters - Evan and Hope. Evan was a very broken man. He felt a lot of guilt over what happened in Iraq, and struggled to overcome it. His growth over the story felt real and organic. He sought counseling. He tried to be a better man for Hope. He was a total alpha too, which I loved.
Hope was one strong woman. She spent her time helping women who had been abused, and really didn't realize the impact she'd had on their lives. She became part of a big, extended family who loved her like she was born into it. And she never gave up on Evan, loving the big guy to the moon and back.
The last 10% of this book - wow. I teared up so many times during the ending. It was so beautifully written and hit you right in the feels. I loved how it ended, and will absolutely read the next book - who I think will be about Evan's twin brother, Brantley.
While there were tears in this book, there were also quite a few laughs. It's rare for an author to hit all the emotions, but Ms. Parker did just that. This is a really, really good book and I would recommend it.
Disclaimer: NO HE PODIDO PASAR DEL 30%.
Little Bit, Shorty, Muffin, Baby Girl...
This was a good read. Evan has been in love with Hope since he was in high school. He was also best friends with her brother. They go off to war and things happen. Evan has a hard time getting over this and this makes it hard for them to have a relationship. Thankfully in the end he gets his act together and they get a happy ending.
Every promise you made illustrates what happens when we are young, ignorant and naive and make promises that we set in stone and think we will be able to live up to. However, when we discover for the first time that some things in life are beyond our control we watch as the pain rips through our most precious loved ones and the consequences of our actions are more damaging than we thought possible - it leaves a person with a darkness that touches their soul!
Evan and Hope met when they were younger through her brother Ryker. That first day at kindergarten set the course of their lives. As best friends they did everything together and it was no surprise that Evan and Hope fell madly in love with each other:) After High School, Ryker and Evan signed up for the Marines and served in Afghanistan. However, promises are broken and their world is turned upside down with tragedy.
Now years later, Evan is not the man he wants to be for Hope because he’s weighed down by grief and guilt and Hope is lost in her own grief that her and Evan will never be together or forever as they promised each other!
So many milestones these two had to go through to be together but in the end it prepared them for the future and to enjoy the happiness they found and to not take it for granted:) Loved this story and cried happy tears at the end! Thank you JE Parker for my advanced copy and I willingly leave my honest review. But also a thank you for letting me into your world and yes there were times I was frustrated by Evan and Hope’s back and forth, but ultimately I was riveted to the book and knew you’d get me and them to the finish line and it was beautiful:) Looking forward to the next couple!
Ryker🐺 is Evan's best friend since they were five. Ryker's little sister, Hope💃, was always meant to belong to Evan🐺. But time and the Marines got in the way.
Both young men join the Marines at High School graduation and years later, during their last deployment, Ryker🐺 is killed. Evan🐺 had made a promise to Hope💃 He would bring Ryker🐺 back alive, but it was a promise he just couldn't keep and one he should never have made.
Hope💃, the woman he wanted for his own, is so devastated by Ryker's death, she blames Evan🐺, and pushes him away, even though circumstances were beyond his control.
Evan🐺 blames himself, too, and goes on a self destructive bent and becomes an underground fighter👊💪, punishing his body as well.
Parts of the book are heartbreaking💔, and so sad. I got choked up. The author has done an amazing job of conveying Hope's and Evan's feelings of loss and despair. Well written, I couldn't put the book📑 down! I had to know what was going to happen!
ARC Received For a Voluntary and Honest Review. I also got the book📑 with KU.
This book was absolutely fantastic. Hope and Evan have known each other for almost their entire lives, but heartbreak and tragedy has gotten in the way of their true happiness. They’re both dealing with loss and mourning in their own ways, know that they’re both in pain, but don’t know how to heal those wounds without some prodding from outside parties (enter Grandmama and Shelby, two of my favorites). These two make their way back to each other in one of the most heartbreakingly wonderful ways I’ve read in a while. Their love endures so much self-inflicted pain, yet binds them together so strongly that I couldn’t help but read through my tears and laughter.
I highly recommend reading the first two books in this series first, since JE Parker always weaves a tale with the perfect blend of angst, love, heartache, and redemption, but this can be read as a stand-alone if you wish.
I think their story will stay with me forever! Promises were meant to be broken, but the agony behind those promises is worse than breaking the promise in the first place!
I have a headache from crying and a sore belly from laughing! The tears were real as your heart breaks for these two, but hope isn’t lost when things finally start to come back together! Granmama is up to her usual antics and for the love of god she makes you laugh! I said it before and I’ll say it again, I need her in my life!!!!!!
You have really outdone yourself with this story and now I will just sit here and cry a little more... I love this gang I cannot wait for all the other stories that come from this group who have a special place in my book shaped heart 😘❤️😘 Who’s turn is it next? Brantley? All I know is I can’t get enough of these guys!
First book read of the new year. Finished in a day. I wasn't expecting to tear up our be an emotional wreck but this story did it. Evan dang sure had some demons to fight and poor Hope was just as hurt. Add in the surrounding characters and you get to laugh but also cry with everything this family has going on. I told my self I was going to take a break from this series but idk I might have read the next book now lol.
This story is such a good emotional read. Evan gosh my heart hurts for him. Hope gosh she is so strong. Be ready to cry happy tears, sad tears because this book killed me!
DNF. The writing did not flow. Too wordy and choppy. I need to feel a connection when I read a book. The relationship felt forced. Also, nothing unique about this relationship.
Okay, seriously, are these relationships intentionally abusive? I feel like they aren't supposed to be because the men are all "protectors" (i.e. firemen, police, marines, security at a women's shelter) but MMC is openly admitting to providing zero love and affection but will not allow her to leave. A MMC who loves and sleeps with his woman, maybe has dark, abusive tendencies that manifest as overly possessive, great. But Evan is not allowing her to go find someone to marry and have babies with, but also deprives her of an emotional connection every single day. This isn't romantic. It's annoying and sad. Unnecessary drama.
Romance trope: brother's best friend Series: Redeeming Love Length: 388 pages
Plot: Hope has loved Evan for as long as she's known him, and he feels the same. But when he and Hope's older brother join the Marines and go to war, only one of them comes back. Evan's guilt is so overwhelming that he thinks he can't be what Hope needs. She will have to fight to make him see that his heart is all she wants.
Commentary: I like this series, I really do. I find the stories of the main couples compelling. And also I feel like I've cried nonstop the past few days while reading these. However, it suffers from what I call the "so many friends" trope, which always leads to some irritating characteristics. Hope and Evan both work at a women's shelter that features prominently in the series. Also at or connected to the shelter? Maddie, Hendrix, Shelby, Anthony, Clara, her kids, Keith, Pops, Grandmama, Ty, Kyle, Carissa, Heidi, Brantley, and I think I'm forgetting a couple more. They all have parts to play in the plot. Some of them barely show up (enough to let you know they'll have a book later in the series) and some of them are practically on every page. Sometimes it was difficult to remember that the book was about Evan and Hope. Because the book is nominally about the main couple, we see the other people in terms of their most prominent characteristics which then become a sort of caricature. Grandmama becomes crazier in each book, Shelby becomes sassier, Hendrix becomes more possessive and protective, etc. The other thing I've noticed (in this series and in others with similar friend groups) is that they all have nicknames that become shorthand for their characteristics - it might be necessary just to keep them all straight! Itty Bitty, Mouth of the South, Henny, Handsome, Muffin, etc. It's cute enough the first time, but because there are so many, it became tedious after a while.
The other thing that bothers me is that this group of people, the women in particular, become more threatening and violent in each book. I'm not talking about when being attacked themselves - that's understandable. I mean that every interaction they have with each other and people outside their friend group tends to violence. In this book, it struck me while they were in the hospital at the end. The nurse says that all 100 of them can't stay in the room with the critically ill patient and they threaten violence! Would they have gone through with it? I don't know, but this was just one instance. It bothered me a little (as did the instance of slut-shaming, which feels to me to be a close cousin of that sort of violence - in this case, unnecessary as the girl in question just showed up and hadn't actually ever done anything with any of the guys in their group - she was desperate and clingy but didn't deserve the sort of abuse they gave her).
Now, after all of that, it might seem that I didn't like the book, and that's not true at all, I swear! I did like the parts of the book that were about Evan and Hope. I felt so bad for Evan because that sort of guilt was inevitable and having Hope yell at him in what seemed like reinforcement of that guilt the minute she saw him again cemented that feeling. I would have liked that scene to be addressed with Hope letting him know, in no uncertain terms, that she didn't blame him and shouldn't have said that. But even people who should know better (like Hope, a social worker) have trouble with their feelings and I think the more that Evan sank into his guilt, the more that Hope seemed like she was angry and sad, which Evan took for anger at him for what he thought he did, and it became a cycle. I hated that for them (as much as I hated so many other people interfering in their relationship - one person, maybe, but all of them?). I did like that they started working things out about halfway through the book rather than waiting until the end - although that did leave room for the inevitable soap opera scene (the shooting ). I mean, this town does have a meth problem!
Wow what an emotional rollercoaster this book has been.. I've laughed, I've shouted at my tablet and I've cried like a little girl.. And I loved every second of it.
Seeing all the gang back was so good. Getting to continue all of their own journeys as well as seeing were hope and evan began. It wasn't easy to read this book it was somehow more heartbreaking than the other 2 before hand and they were both heartbreaking so I didn't realise it would be possible.
JE Parker really knows how to write a good romance and also how to create an amazing family. I can't wait to read more from all these characters and see how each small family unit grows to create one of the best family units I have ever read in a book.
If you enjoyed books 1 and 2 then you will absolutely love this one.. And if you clicked this review and haven't read the others yet then go read them now.. Your missing out on grandmama and I have no idea why!
Check TW Best friends' little sister✅ Childhood friends✅
Plot 5✨ Spice 4🌶️
Signing up for the Marines right out of high school with his best friend Ryker was always the plan for Evan. Besides his twin brother, Ryker was the closest person to him. Falling in love with Ryker's little sister Hope wasn't part of the plan. The night before he and Ryker leave for their last tour in Iraq, he promises Hope three things: He will return. Ryker will return. And lastly, when he gets back, she is his forever.
Most siblings can't stand each other but not Hope and Ryker, they are so close they might as well have been twins. Hope didn't mean to fall in love with her brother's best friend Evan, but she did. She told him at 17 that she wanted to keep him forever and she meant it. The night they shared their first kiss before he and Ryker left again, she made him promise to come home and to bring her best friend with him.
The tour was supposed to last eight months, Evan could keep his promises for eight months, right? Three months later Evan made the mistake that broke every promise he made to Hope that fateful night.
How did Evan break his promises? Will either of them be the same after all of this? Can Hope hold on to the broken Evan long enough for him to fix himself or will she finally have to let him go?
Grab your tissues before you even start this book. This book is painstakingly sad and so good at the same time. Out of all the books so far this book is the one that broke my heart the worst. I could feel the emotions that Hope and Evan were going through. Yes at times the hot and cold got super annoying but I believe that is a real representation of what someone in their shoes would go through. Don't let the fact that you will cry put you off reading this book the end will put your heart back together again, I promise.
I'm so sad that this book didn't worked for me like the first two in this series. Breaks my heart, really, as I've expected and hope for both main characters but their push and pull, hot and cold kind of relationship is a huge trigger and pet peeve for me.
I feel like while reading this, that their struggles dragged on too much with so much back and forth it becomes too tiring. I think the author wanted the readers to feel their relationship building in every way (meaning in every scene) but theirs was like giving a candy to a kid and then taking it back in a minute. I just felt emotionally drained and battered for the three-fourths part of the book.
While I admire Hope's strength at some point, I wish she stood up, and I really mean stood up for herself and let Evan fight his own demons. I felt at some point that Grandmama was right -- that Hope is acting like a doormat for Evan. She's so much more than that but for him she was weak. While one part of me sees that as unconditional love and support, there's also a part of me who gave up Evan before halfway in the story.
I didn't like Evan. At all. He was miserable and selfish in my opinion. I get that he's hurting but what he did for the most part of the book to Hope is something I just couldn't sit down and take. Albeit, his character seemed to be more realistic but I was more than hurt by his actions to give any more of my sympathy.
Nevertheless, I still love this series as a whole. I like how the characters are attached to each other and how the story arcs to the next one. I will still read the next book. It just that this book, this story is not for me. (Again, me and my pet peeves issue)
Yet again, J. E. Parker, has brought forth a masterpiece of writing. This one has me in tears, laughing out loud and so excited to keep reading.
The fact that we lost a character but then got to have that character back even for a little while, was painfully beautiful.
Evan and Hope’s pain, heartache, fear, and grief was so raw, real and their vulnerability was imperfectly perfect. These strong protective men are my favorite characters I’ve read in a long time, along with their brave and loving women. I can’t get enough of the kids and the found family we get in every single page.
Grandmama is a hoot and a half times a million and I love how much more of her we got to see here. The scene in Eden’s Treasure Trove had me laughing so hard that I cried.
From beginning to end, these books give you something to root for, characters to fall in love with and a story to cherish.
I gave this Book a rating of 5 ✩’s Title: Every Promise You Made Series: Redeeming Love Book 3 Genre: Best friends sister romance Author: J.E. Parker Format: Kindle Edition Published on: May 24, 2018
I voluntarily received a Courtesy Copy of this book from the author and am choosing to leave a review. >-< >-< >-< >-< >-<>-< >-< >-< >-< >-< >-< >-< >-< Summary Paragraph: Hope Peterson is Evan Morgan’s Best friend, Ryker’s, sister. When Hope’s life shatters Evan wants to keep her safe even if it means safe from him. >-< >-< >-< >-< >-<>-< >-< >-< >-< >-< >-< >-< >-< What I liked/Didn’t Like: I loved this one especially Grandmama she was a hoot. This book is one big emotional roller coaster ride that is well worth it.
Evan Morgan has a twin brother named Brantley but his closest relationship is with his best friend Ryker Peterson since they were in kindergarten. When Evan and Ryker decide to join the Marines after high school the two are ready to do their duty but Evan leaves behind his heart with Ryker's little sister, Hope.
Hope Peterson has had a crush on Evan for as long as she can remember and when Evan is leaving for his 3rd tour overseas the two finally kiss and Hope knows that Evan is hers. But when Hope makes Evan promise he will bring Ryker home will Evan be able to keep his promise?
As Evan breaks his promise to Hope will he be able to live with himself and the guilt he has for living? Will he let Hope move on with her own life as he is struggling with his own?
This was a great book and I really enjoyed it!
At first Evan is this larger than life guy but when he comes back from the war he is so broken inside and yet he almost punishes himself by not getting himself the help he needs to be able to move on from everything. I understood why he needed to protect Hope because he promised Ryker but he was punishing her by having her stuck in limbo about their relationship and him not letting her get involved with anyone else.
My heart broke for Hope as she lost her brother and she lost Evan as well. The Evan that left her was definitely not the same one that came back. Yet she continued to stay with him until she finally gets to that breaking point after being pushed too far.
There was so much chemistry between the two of them but there was also so much unsaid and Evan was afraid that if Hope knew the real truth that she would hate him. It did make me mad that he put so little faith in Hope. I knew once Hope was able to make some progress physically with Evan that she may finally get through to him.
I loved the friendships that Hope had with her girls - Shelby, Maddie, Claire and Carissa. Shelby was so awesome and I loved how she made Evan think a different way and made him realize what he stood to lose.
Grandmama was the most incredible character and I loved her!! She made me laugh so much and she was so crazy!!
I was not expecting the twist at the end and I was freaking out so much!! I loved "what came" to Evan and Hope and how all the pieces were put back together!
This is the third book in the Redeeming Love Series and each can be read as a standalone; however, you do see continuing characters story, but you are never felt like you are missing a piece of these crazy, nutty characters. While reading this story you will feel the emotions, guilt, pain and love that Evan and Hope had for each other. The saying goes, “when you love someone set them free if it was meant to be, they will come back” but be still your heart when the guilt is revealed is all I will say. I will warn you don’t drink while reading this book at around 73% into the book, oh my the “Crazy Chick Club” fit the girl secondary characters to a T. Hilarious, but we needed that good chuckle when our heart was hurting most of the story so that laugh made your heart feel whole. I will say that ending though was the icing on the cake and through the teary eyes you feel the redemption that was well overdue. Kyle and Carissa, Clara, Brantley mmm I’m loving where this is going cause I almost thought we may not get more of this series, but I am thinking otherwise and I couldn’t be more excited. The icing to these characters though is Shelby (mouth of the South) with Anthony, Maddie and Hendrix, Grandmama plus fingers crossed as this family of friends grows that we see a spin-off of the next generation. Each story in the series covers a different topic and this book was about PTSD after coming back from being in the Marines and many aspects of a Shelter that many of these characters work at. Ryker shows us some things that makes us open up our eyes is all I will say. Whether you read them all and loved seeing this clan or this is your first read, I have to say that Big Guy and Little Bit might have shattered me a little differently than the others, but each roller coaster ride we take with these characters blow our minds and touches your soul. I cannot wait for more in this series, but I will warn you grab some tissues, drink of choice, chocolate or bon-bons (do they even make those anymore?) and prepare yourself to feel the darkness and pain and love that these characters finally get after some heavy topics they dealt with. I highly recommend this series to anyone.
"I know I should let you go, but I can't. I swore I'd take care of you, and that's what I plan to do. Because despite the walls between us, you're still the love of my life."
This. Was. Amazing! I have loved this series, but this is my favorite!! This has all the feels - humor, love, friendship, anger, sorrow, heartache - it's all here. On top of that, there is plenty of steam too!
Evan Morgan has known Hope and her brother Ryker forever. Ryker was his best friend. Hope was his forever girl. He made promises to her - he even pinky-swore - and he broke every one. He's the reason for her heartbreak. He's done nothing but hurt her, time and time again, by pushing her away. He should leave. Let her move on to someone she deserves, but he can't bring himself to do it. He needs her, and he promised to take care of her. The guilt he carries is heavy and if she finds out the truth, he'll lose her forever. Hope is his, and he'll do whatever it takes to keep her. He only hopes he can fix himself before she calls it quits.
Hope Peterson was happy. She had a great family, the best big-brother anyone could ask for, and the love of her life as a best friend. When tragedy strikes, everything changes. Even though he's distant, she still loves Evan with every fiber of her being. But she's growing tired of him shutting her out. She knows he's holding back but she can't be this close to him and not be able to have him. If she walks away, she'll never survive. But, then again, if she stays it may destroy her anyway. Can she convince him to fight for them, or is it too late?
There was so much emotion in this book. My heart broke for Evan, and for Hope. The rest of the characters had their own emotional roller-coaster going on too. I was happy. I was sad. I was angry at Evan. I was pulling for Evan. I was laughing at Grandmama and her antics (Lord she's a pip!)
If you haven't read this series, I highly recommend it! Evan and Hope's story is truly wonderful. Please don't miss out!!
***Received an ARC for my honest review.*** Thank you JE Parker for this opportunity
Evan and Hope has been friends since Hope was 4 years old. He was very protective of her. Their friendship eventually progressed into something serious but wanted to keep it to themselves for the time being. Hope and her brother was also very close. They had a special bond.
Hope worked at a women's shelter for battered woman as a Social Worker. Her brother and Evan joined the Marines. She loved Evan deeply. Something tragic happened whilst they were in the Marines and it broke Hope's heart. Evan was honorably discharged from the Marines and came home a changed man. He was so changed that he treated Hope very badly. It was tearing Hope apart to see him so torn and broken. He kept a secret that will destroy Hope and he just cannot let that happen. Evan was very possessive of Hope but he knew he must sort out his issues before he can continue a romantic relationship with her. Now the question is ........... Is he going to sort his nonsense out or is he going to continue to hurt Hope?
Hope was brave and selfless, she just cared so much about her friends and family that she will take drastic measures to save them.
I laughed, I cried then laughed again and cried again. Which ever way, I had tears in my eyes. This was once again one of Ms Parker's best books as with the previous two. What I liked was that all the characters from the other two books made an appearance, especially Grandmama. She was my absolute favorite.
Ms Parker you outdone yourself again with this book. I hope there might be a book in the near future for Bradley and Clara or even for Kyle and Carissa.
Evan and Hope....heartbreaking....tissues required
This is the third book in J.E. Parker's REDEEMING LOVE SERIES. The previous two, Every Moment With You and Every Breath You Take, were superb, so I could wait to get my hands on this one. To my absolute delight, J.E. Parker did not let me down. EVERY PROMISE YOU MADE was just as exceptional.
This is Evan and Hope's story, and believe me, you will need an endless supply of tissues, wine and chocolates to get you through this one. It will tear you heart apart and play with all of your emotions. Evan and Hope have known each other since kindergarten, theirs was a relationship built of friendship and then love. Promises were made, ones that they thought would never be broken, but a final military deployment changed everything and lives were left broken.
This couple had a lot to deal with on their journey. The heartbreak and tragedy that they both had to traverse on their way back to each other was simply soul destroying. Evan is loaded down by the grief and guilt that he feels, while Hope is devastated by the grief she feels that the promises they made together may never be fulfilled. This is love in its most purest and devastating form.
Once again J.E. Parker has shattered my heart and delivered a story that will hold a place in that very same heart for a long time. I cannot wait for the next one. Definitely a recommended read.
Great emotional read, with plenty of hilarity that balances everything out. This book features Hope and Evan. Two employees at a women's shelter. Evan, ex-military, works as security, and Hope as a social worker. Each book in this series features a different women who either has been somehow abused, or an advocate for those who have, or both, so there is a lot of talk about that, and they have have some sort of hang up. In this instance, neither have been abused, but each have their own set of troubles that threaten their relationship. He has a secret, from his time in the military, that not only is holding him back, but also eating away at his soul. She just wants him to accept and love her, and his push and pull behavior is driving her insane.
The characters are all so endearing and lovable.. and many are plum crazy, but that makes you love them all the more. The entire team are very loyal and determined. They love unconditionally. You can read this book as a stand alone, but I highly suggest you read the entire series, and you get to know each of the characters better and thus making the story more enjoyable as a reader. There are times you feel frustrated with the characters, times you'll laugh with them, and a few times you'll cry with them. (Tissues will be needed in the last few chapters... You've been warned.) The story is well played out, the book well written. There is some sexual content, that I would probably keep away from the younger readers. It alternates between POVs.
J.E. Parker has quickly become one of my #1 favorite authors! I thought she killed me with Hendrix and Maddie, then slayed me with Anthony and Shelby but Evan and Hope just crushed my heart and soul and all the best possible ways possible. I was so excited to see where these two came from and how they came to be in the non-relationship we've seen them in. I knew their story was gonna be so heart breaking and it did not disappoint. Going into this book i was a little more emotional since my husband is a marine and iv been and felt for myself all the emotions that come with it which i think made these two that much more special to me. Hope is such a strong and beautiful heroine, i just loved seeing her through out this story grow into such a incredible women more then we had already seen her. Evan just about killed me in everyone possible way, i didnt know it was possible to cry so much through one book. Everything this man has been through and what he carries on his shoulders was so intense that it was hard not to feel everything. Iv loved these two through the last two books and was so excited to live their story with them. J.E. Parker is so talented and incredible in how she really brings these characters to life and really makes you feel like a part of their lives and their world. I just loved everything about this story and really cant wait to see whats next for this amazing author. She will not disappoint!
