'He'd only have to fight harder to stay close and protect her from whoever had stepped out of his past to destroy the woman he'd once loved.'
There is a ruthless killer out there and they are targeting the families of soldiers in Sergeant Jason Barnes's elite military unit. Jason is concerned that his secret ex-wife will become a victim. In fact, he's sure of it. But keeping her safe won't be easy because Erin Taylor wants absolutely nothing to do with him. She didn't put him first in their brief marriage, so why should she take him seriously now?
Jodie Baily has written a really good suspense novel here. Almost nonstop action and a really great inspirational message to boot. I am very happy to have discovered her writing. She has created a great cast of characters, even secondary ones (one I couldn't stand), and a culprit that I never for one second guessed their identity! Recommended.
*My thanks to the author for a copy of this book. My opinion stated here is entirely my own.
I do love a good story with young sweethearts getting a second chance later in life. The story is high-action, and I didn't guess the culprit until past halfway. Wow...this bad guy has some nerves of steel and an incredible thirst for blood and vengeance. The romance was super sweet and I was definitely rooting for the heroine to break away from her father's insane need for control.
Funny gripe: I felt like docking a star (but didn't) because a "picturesque old farmhouse" with "peeling paint" got a coat of "fresh vinyl siding" in the course of the story. I felt like shouting at the author for defacing an old home instead of giving it the fresh paint it deserved. The thought of it scarred my eyes.
Angst and action overload in this head-swimming romantic suspense! If the case doesn't twist your innards into knots, the romance sure will.
Jason and Erin fell in love too soon -- high school sweethearts who didn't stand a chance given their dysfunctional backgrounds. But their divorce heaped on even more damage and when they come face to face again under the most dire of circumstances, their past is going to make or break them. A surprisingly deep delve into how the wounds of our childhood have the power to play havoc with our future.
As to the suspense -- fast and furious collides with gobsmacked!

Fatal Response is a Love Inspired Suspense book by Jodie Bailey. Fatal Response is a book that is so packed with nail biting excitement that will have you glued to your seat. There is so much pain, heartache, confusion, love and much more in this story. I couldn’t put this book down until the very end it was that wonderful.
My review today is on the Love Inspired Suspense. Fatal Response. I'm always thrilled to get one of Jodie's books in the mail. She's one of my favorites. This story is well written action packed and full of faith. I know you are going to love this one.
Firefighter Erin Taylor is at the fire station alone. It's been a long night and she has cleaned and buffed every thing in sight. She is having a restless night. For the last two weeks a dark car would drive into the parking lot. It would shine the headlights into the station, the engine stayed on, and no one ever got out; then it would leave. The random drive-bys poked her creepy-meter a little bit. No one else seemed bothered about it but her. Tonight she heard a noise out back. A little red Mustang comes in hot, a young woman gets out and comes towards Erin saying please don't hurt him. Erin backs up. The dark sedan comes roaring up the driveway and hits the woman. As she's feeling for a pulse, footsteps run up behind her. Oh no her ex-husband!
Army Sergeant First Class Jason Barnes tries to get to the woman before she was struck by the car. He was to late but grabs the other woman by the waist. He wasn't going to let anyone else die on his watch. She repays him by driving her head into the side of his jaw. She breaks away from him and turns on him like a tornado, a very familiar tornado. He had rescued his ex-wife.
A struggle of these two broken souls as someone is trying to kill all of Jason's team's families. God has a plan for these two, a plan for a hope and a future. God has a plan for you too, a good plan and not for evil. Give Him your heart and watch Him work in your life.
In Bailey’s latest book, Fatal Response, she brings a fast-paced storyline, complex and developed characters, and suspense to the reader. From the very first pages, the main characters emerge, and it turns out they are not strangers when they meet in Chapter One; they were previously married! Erin and Jason grew up together and had been in love, but perceived obligations destroyed their relationship, or so Erin thought. When Jason reemerges in her life, Erin is witness to and barely escapes a horrible accident that, soon becomes clear, was purposeful and also meant to end her life. Soon after, all the spouses of Jason’s unit are being attacked and Jason must protect Erin at all costs, lest he lose her a second time. I’m pretty sure I devoured this book faster than any other, because I “had to know” what happened next. You will not regret this quick and compelling read! I was given a complimentary book for reviewing purposes. All opinions are my own.
This is a powerful book to read. Its a story about 2 people Jason Barnes and Erin Taylor. Its a story about acceptance, understanding and second chances. Jodie gives you a view of 2 people who want to be loved for who they are. This story has alot of surprises for you in the story. It will surprise you of who is behind the crime and why the person is doing it. The twists and turns in the story will also keep you guessing as to what is happening next. But one of the most powerful things in the story, is the love a boy never got to know was from his parents. He was rejected by them at every turn. Then you meet a girl who wants love of parent and bends over backwards to get it. The ending will tell the rest. Its a awesome story worth a read.
This gripping mystery keeps readers guessing as wives of soldiers from an elite military unit are attacked and killed in situations that could look like accidents. Who could be behind these murders? Jason’s former wife, Erin, faces this danger, and their lives become entwined again. Whom can they trust? Could the attacker be someone they know, someone close? Erin’s demanding dad adds another tense element to the story. The characters seem real and engaging. Can they move beyond the pain and fears of the past and find a hope-filled future? I received an early copy from the publisher/author. All opinions are my own.
When you live in a small town like Erin did, she couldn’t phantom why she was being targeted by a killer. Jason, her ex-husband shows up to protect her since spouses of his military team are being killed. He feels her being targeted is because of her connection to him. Strong characters fighting to survive not only the killer but also their broken hearts have you not able to put it down until the end. A well paced who done it with a surprise ending.
Jason Barnes is determined to figure out who is targeting family members of his team of the soldiers he had gone on tours with. Erin his ex.wife no one knows about or so he thought until someone targets her. Now he has to think who it is before time runs out for him and ex-wife as they are finding that they still love each other.
This is a very well written book, with likable characters and lots of suspense. Erins' blindness to her fathers' manipulations had me questioning her intelligence, and I had to decide to overlook that discrepancy in what was otherwise written as a strong, intelligent character, and just enjoy the book.
this is a page turning story I could not put down, if you like suspense and second chance romance you will love the story, someone is killing the loved ones of his unit, now someone is after his ex but how do they know,
jodie's stories never disappoint and this one is no exception. Great characters, a mystery full of exciting twists and turns and romance make this a story worth reading. Jodie writes some of my favorite LIS books and I make sure never to miss one. Love her books!
This was a really good story. It just goes to show, God will protect you when you trust in Him. This story showed that there is real evil in the world but we, as God's children, can trust God to care for us.
Jodie Bailey gives us a hard hitting, action packed thriller with her latest book. Her vivid characters with a well crafted storyline keeps you engaged from first word until last. This book is recommended for those who love romantic suspense.
