Can You See Me?

Rate this book
A charming Beginner Book about a lovable--but sometimes hard to see—lizard by award-winning illustrator Bob Staake!

This bright, cheerful early reader about a giant lizard hiding in unlikely—and un-lizard-like—places combines Staake's trademark high-energy graphic style with the classic appeal of Dr. Seuss, P. D. Eastman, and Robert Lopshire! With simple rhymed text and illustrations that provide visual clues to the meaning of the words on each page, it's exactly what Dr. Seuss had in mind when he launched the Beginner Books series in 1957 with The Cat in the Hat!

First sentence: I am yellow.

Premise/plot: Can You See Me? This Beginner Book stars a chameleon playing hide and seek. The again again question of the day is, “Can you see me?” This one is repetitive and silly but may prove entertaining to young readers. Color words are often among the first sight words children learn to read.

My thoughts: I am not the ideal audience for this one! I liked it well enough, but didn’t love, love, love it like I have some other early readers. (For example, Go, Dog, Go; Hand, Hand, Fingers, Thumb; Are You My Mother.) Still recommendable to families with young ones ready to read.

I loved this book for children that are learning to read because the words are simple and easy to follow. I feel that the pictures are both well illustrated and go along with the story extremely well which makes it easier for kids to figure out the words on their own and start to understand what things are and what colors they typically are. This book is one that would be go to build confidence in a reader as it is an easy picture book but still some of the pages have a good amount of words.

It will be fun to learn about colors and discover the hiding places of the loveable googly-eyed dinosaur in Bob Staake's new early reader Can You See me. Kids age 3 - 6 will enjoy reading it with you and to you again and again. Look at the end papers of the book. Can you count how many blue dinosaurs there are? How about the red or green ones?

This has the feel of some of the classic "Beginner Books" from when I was a kid. The one nice upgrade is that there is a girl of color featured in the illustrations. Kids will have fun finding the lizard as he tries to camouflage himself in all sorts of situations.

This is silly and cute and the rhyme has an excellent rhythm for a read-aloud.

Cute and well illustrated, the rhyming doesn't quite work for a read-aloud, making the reader stretch syllables in odd places

Sorry, but this is not as good as Put Me in the Zoo. It's semi cute but also seems forced.

A fun search and find for toddlers..... follow the dinosaur around town as he changes colours and hides like a chameleon.
