As owner of Nocturnal Encounters, a popular nightclub in the heart of Pensacola Florida, Erin Sanders was no stranger to the comings and goings of travelers cruising through the doors of her establishment. Just like clockwork around 8 pm, patrons would begin to gather for a night of drinking, dancing, and fun. But on this particular evening, Erin’s life inexplicably changed, forever.
The rumors had been true. A few of the towns soldiers were returning from their tours in IRAQ including non-other than Caleb Malone, Erin’s ex-fiancé and the man that continued to haunt her dreams. This would’ve been a time to rejoice, but, how could Erin after the way their relationship suddenly ended? The breakup devastated her, so much so, that she vowed to never lay eyes on him again. How was Erin supposed to stop the turbulent emotions that rocked her core and sent her nerves spinning when he walked into her club? What would she do when he asks for her specifically, and more importantly should Erin listen to her heart or her head?
Caleb only had one thing on his mind when he entered Nocturnal Encounters. He wants to see Erin, the one that got away. There was just one problem, Caleb made the horrible mistake of breaking her heart. The realities of war had consumed him and nightly Caleb fought with it. But the one thing that remained the same was the serenity Caleb felt when thoughts of Erin infiltrated his mind. Now Caleb would do whatever it took to rectify what he’d done, he intended to win her back, no matter what it would take.
But he never said if he waited for her. I wanted it spelled out. He did love her but I just don't like that there are three years unaccounted for and don't soldiers get leave? Both books had the hero gone six years and no visits? That is just too weird for me. I don't trust either one of them. And so the books for me are just okay. I would read the author again. In this story he broke up with her three years ago due to a tragic event he experienced and yet when he came home he expected her to still be waiting for him. She remained chaste of course and when he broke up with her she went into a deep depression and I felt so bad for her. He chased her and wanted to make sure she was still a virgin but he never said he wasn't with anyone. He said he wasn't seeing anyone but I don't buy it. Call me cynical but six years apart? I hate that I have become this way. Blame the NA genre for that because of course it couldn't be due to any issues I may have. Lol. Cute ending with a grand gesture and if course an HEA!!
Its not bad but it definitely isn't good. I read it by mistake, i wanted to read the second book in the series for the crazy ow. This one was just boring and sad. The H and h finished highschool and are engaged and she reads in the newspaper that he enlisted and is going away. Newspaper.
Then after 3 years of being away and she waiting for him he breaks up with her out of nowhere and for no reason. Just a i cant do this anymore and he stops calling. Second major decision he took that affects them both that he didnt even feel the need to talk to her about.
Then he comes back after 6 years, 3 of them they didn't even talk and he wants her back and she takes him without much fuss. And in the middle of his i want you backs he has the nerve to tell her he's there just for the summer and is going back. She very rightly said dont do this if you dont intentlto stay and then we hear a sad story of why he broke up with her and why he still has to go. I did not care. Why woo her bacl if you know you're still going away.
Anyway last chapters they go to a organisation for veterans. The organisation had a purpose im sure but the book did not really convince me what this was. She took him to convince him to stay. But he was already staying cause his commanding officer told him not te reenlist. So yeah, on more major decision she had zero choice in.
So no. Very one dimensional characters and lackluster lovestory that read more like psa on how to be a good army girlfriend.

i read this book as part of an arc program. I enjoyed this second chance romance between Caleb and Erin. Caleb and Erin were high school sweethearts who were engaged to be married. They had planned on getting married until Caleb unexpectedly joined the military without telling Erin. They continued a long distance relationship for three years while Caleb was away until one day Caleb told Erin to move on and he cut off all contact with her. Erin was devastated and after a year, she took the money they had saved for the wedding and she bought a bar. Erin turned the bar into a success and three years later Caleb was discharged from the military and returned to town and wanted to continue seeing Erin. Erin was unsure if she could trust Caleb and didn't know if she could give him another chance. This was an emotional story about young love and the problems with PTSD. This was the first book I read by Phoebe and I will be looking to read more.
I applaud this author for her efforts, however it needs work IMO. This read amateurish and like a rough draft and stiff. Anatomically correct terms for body parts used in what's supposed to be sexy scenes. Lite hearted approach to very real and serious situation with our men and women in the military that return from war and of those that sadly do not. More depth, more research and more thought needed to be done before publishing this book. Several times in the story it's said our h researched military life however she didn't know what a MRE was! This is just one example of why I wasn't a fan of this book. To me if a serious topic of our military men and women in and out of the military and the trials they and their families go through are used in a book then you better do your homework! She referenced organizations as the DAV and the Wounded Warrior projects and made them to be a huge part of a book then it better get the respect and honor they deserve! At the end it didn't even list where you get in touch with to donate, volunteer or find information about these groups! As a family member of many military men and women this story is not a positive in my book!
Caleb and Erin were high school sweethearts and Erin was expecting them to get married, she had the ring to prove it. They were happy until he up and enlisted in the Army without a word to her about it. She was devastated of course, and fell into deep depression, but still held out hope for a few months. Until she got the call from him telling her to move on without him because he couldn't be with her any longer, even long distance.
Six years later, Erin is a content business woman with her own club, Nocturnal Encounters, when who waltzes in, looking gorgeous and more of a man than when he left? Caleb of course. From there it's a short trip to their reunion and Caleb's story of why he broke her heart. It's a pretty sad story, a dead fellow soldier and Caleb's left feeling survivor's remorse and still planning on re-enlisting when his leave is up. But not if Erin has anything to say about it.
Wait for Me is a sweet story, but it lacks depth and that punch that I look for with military romances where one of them is coming back from overseas. Caleb's PTSD is mostly glossed over, and neither Caleb nor Erin seemed to be particularly deep characters. They didn't have a very strong connection, probably because neither character was very layered or particularly well drawn.
So, if you're looking for an angsty and/or deep second chance story, you may want to look elsewhere. If you're just in the mood for something light and fluffy that's short and sweet, Wait for Me is probably more your style.
It was okay. It started off well but he didn't consult her about going in to the military and he cut her off after a while into serving. (I am not going to spoil it as to the deets of why). He also isn't committed to not going back in again and then I felt she does a complete turn around in her opinion of his career. I wasn't convinced she should get involved again to be honest. And she didn't move on at all in their time apart which I thought was a shame.
Caleb and Erin were high school sweethearts that got engaged just after school. Erin thought that they would be planning their wedding and life together but Caleb shocked her when he enlisted without even talking to her about it. They talked and wrote while he was away and then all of a sudden he tells her its over and to move on without him. Now years later he is back home and wanting to claim his woman. However Erin isn't gong to let him back in that easily. She used the money they had saved for their wedding to start her club and was thinking about dating again when he comes back into her life. Caleb knows that he owes Erin an explanation about why he acted the way he did but will she give him a chance?
This was an emotional story about two loves reuniting. The chemistry between Erin and Caleb is intensely hot. Once I started reading this story I couldn't put it down. Amazing characters and supporting characters and a great storyline you couldn't ask for more in a book. I would recommend this to any book lover to read and enjoy the story.
This is the first book I've read and reviewed by Phoebe and I truly enjoyed the story. Erin is the owner of Nocturnal Encounters a popular night club. Caleb a soldier returning from Iraq stops by the nightclub to see Erin. Years earlier Caleb and Erin had been engaged but he enlisted without telling her. They stayed in contact with each other writing and talking. Suddenly, Caleb ends there relationship with no explanation. The break up leaves Erin devastated but she never stops loving Caleb. When she sees Caleb enter the club she wants nothing to do with him. Caleb still loves Erin. He has returned to speak to Erin and explain what happened. Caleb is hoping Erin can forgive him and give them a second chance. Can Erin and Caleb renew their love affair? This well-written, emotional and intriguing story has a mixture of drama, heart-break, jealousy, betrayal, remorse, and explosive chemistry leading to love and a romantic HEA. A must read! I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
Things happen that change you... Sometimes help is needed to make you whole again.
Erin dated Caleb in high school. They had their life planned out until Caleb sign up for the military without talking to Erin about it. She waited for him until the night he called and told her to move on with her life. She used the money they saved for their wedding to purchase a night club.
6 years after he left, Caleb walks into the club looking for Erin. She has a hard time talking to him and forgiving him until he tells her what happened.
When she finds out, she convinces him to get help from wounded warriors. They go on a week retreat that help him reconnect to life outside the military and reconnect with Erin as well.
It was a great short story. I like reading about military stories. I love that this talked about ways soldiers could get help. It also shows how relationships can get strained in the military. As long as your willing to work on them, they can survive. -- Erin and Caleb story was great. It was well written. I would recommend it!
If you are looking for easy read then this would be it. I'm always up for a military book and my interest was piqued when I started reading. The storyline flowed well and I think many people will love Pheobe's writing. I like the fact that the Wounded Warriors Project was mentioned, since it actually exist. Everyone needs to be educated on programs available to our troops and veterans. The reason I only gave it 3 stars is because there are some topics brought up in the book that deserved more emotion and more detail. The dialogue was too blase' and short and I just didn't get pulled into the story because it was a bit disorganized. Jumping back and forth between characters pov's too quickly was a bit confusing at times. So on the end note, this book was not my cup of tea but it may be yours. Take the chance, but it and read it. You may find your next favorite author.
A sweet and heartfelt second chance romance story. Caleb and Erin were high school sweethearts with their future planned, that was until Caleb enlisted into the Army. While there he saw his friends die and has blamed himself ever since so he called Erin one day and told her to move on without him. Erin did just that even though he was never far from her mind and it took her a good long year to get out of her depression. 3 years after that phone call, Caleb is back and he wants Erin. When he finally has a chance to explain why he did the things he did, will that be enough for her to give him another chance? It's a very fast read that will bring a smile to your face as well as a tear to your eye.
This is a heartwarming story with lovable characters. Reading this book, I got the sense that this author is new to the craft. The heart and heat are evident in this tale. I have a strong sense that as the experience of the author grows, these stories will create emotional wreckage.
The main couple, Caleb and Erin, definitely create some steamy scenes. Readers can also expect some mature language, mostly in the scenes related to the soldiers (since swearing is considered a bit of an art form in the military). There will be more to come from this troupe of characters in the future as more soldiers come home to their lovers. But have no fear, this novel is a stand-alone, with no cliff hanger!
This is 15 chapters of pure emotion, written so you feel things from both Erin's and Caleb's side of the story. This story has love, hope, dreams, pain, grief, guilt, anger, heartbreak, forgiveness, remorse and acceptance. The message that stands out to me is that relationships can only work if you communicate, support and accept each other.
I'm looking forward to finding out more about Amy and Luke, and Mariah and Micah, but I really hope that these stories will give me more of Erin and Caleb as I'd love to read more about them.
I am voluntarily leaving an honest review after receiving an ARC.
Overall a good read. It's fast-paced and heart-wrenching emotional. I loved the plot. The storyline flowed smoothly throughout. My heart broke for both Caleb and Erin. You could feel the heart-break. The connection and chemistry between them was palpable. I loved how the author brought in the Wounded Warrior Project. That was definitely an interesting aspect of the story and give a little information about what it is they do. The author's writing style was good which made it easy to read. I can't wait for book 2 to read Amy's story. She was a hoot!!!
I voluntarily read and reviewed a free copy of this book....
Wait For Me is a sweet second chance military story. Caleb and Erin were high school sweethearts. Their love story, however, came to a halt when Caleb declared she shouldn’t wait for him while he was deployed in the Middle East. I don’t normally do a synopsis of the books I read and review, so I won’t start now. But I will say this, read this book. It’s a poignant story, filled with heartache and heartbreak. It’s about communication and forgiveness. I received this book for a voluntary, completely honest and non incentivized review.
Regrets, heartbreak, trust issues, passion, hot chemistry, twists, love, lust and lots more is in this great story. It is well written and has a great storyline and plot. The characters are very likeable, relatable and well described. They develop nicely through the story. It is written in a way that caught me from the first to last chapter. This story is not only about hot scenes but also has a lot of heart in it. That made me want to read it in one setting. Can they forget the past and trust each other again? A story that I can only recommend to others.
Absolutely loved this book. My heart broke for Erin but also for Caleb. He did what he thought was right but in doing so, he left behind the woman of his dreams. 6 years later he returns home and seeks out Erin. She is more beautiful than ever and he hopes to win her back. I felt the pain and anguish Erin went through trying to stay strong and keep Caleb at arms length. But there is nothing that can control what your heart wants and hers wants Caleb. Great read. I am always a fan of military romance. I used Kindle Unlimited to read and review this book.
Heartbreaking read, this book owned my emotions. Caleb and Erin were high school sweethearts, engaged after grad, but then he enlisted. No explanation. That's a hard way for a romance to end when young love just true. We catch up with Caleb and Erin farther down the line, and the reasons for his leaving may be valid, but poor form on the break. He definitely needed to make up for this in a big way, and in the end this is a lovely second chance romance. Excellent writing and great characters, this is a very easy to recommend highly. This is a voluntary review of an advance reader copy.
When he broke her heart 3 years ago, Erin never thought she would see Caleb again. After 3 years of no contact, Caleb returns home determined to win over Erin again. Will Erin be able to forgive him? Will Caleb be able to overcome his guilt?
Great second chance romance read. I loved the fact that this book touched on the guilt and PTSD that Caleb was carrying. I didn't blame Erin for her thinking and was actually kind of happy that she put her foot down and laid everything on the line. Good read!

I tend to love books about military guys, so I'm most likely prejudiced in this review!! I liked this story about Erin and Caleb, as he comes back to town after breaking off from Erin via a telephone call three years ago. Caleb had been in a dark place, and he thought it best to release Erin from her promise to wait for him. Now, after being away with the Army for seven years, he's back. This was a quick read (which I appreciated). I did receive an advance reader copy for this review.
A second chance romance between Erin and Caleb. He broke her heart and then headed off to the horrors of the Iraq war. He was home and determined to win her back. This book brings in the horrors of PTSD and the lingering effects of war. No spoiler here but does she give him a second Chance? A good read that was short and easy to read. Likeable characters. I read a reader copy and voluntarily chose to write a review.
This was a wonderful second chance Military romance. When Caleb left Erin years before to jin the Military throwing all their plans away he left her broken-hearted so she took her saving and opened her club and made that her whole life. Now he's back and in her club wanting another chance. This was a super read and pulled me right in right from the start it was really well written with great characters I would recommend it to all
A FANTASTIC READ!!! A smooth flowing, steady paced, easy to follow read with twists and surprises that captivated me from the start. The characters were well defined and realistic. The scenes with such vivid details seemed to come alive. The storyline was well thought out and progressed at a believable rate. Phoebe did an awesome job of bringing this read to life.
Dang! What an emotional roller coaster ride...this book has it all—great storyline; characters that immediately embroil you in the action; and a kickass HEA. This one will literally make your heart hurt...then burst with joy. You really, really want to grab this one! (I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book and loved it.) ❤️❤️
This isn't a novel, its a NOVELLA...... This book was so shirt, rushed and over quick!
This book was like watching a movie on fast forward. Was any effort even put into the story ??! Cause it felt like the author was at the end of a dead line and rushed this to the finish line as fast as possible!
A fantastic beginning! I cannot ain’t to see how this series works out. This is a second chance that many don’t have a chance to receive and through tears of both sadness and joy, I’m thinking of all those who serve and wish them the best of luck, in and out of the military. I’m voluntarily reviewing an advanced reader copy of this book.
I read this book in one sitting. It's a quick read and I enjoyed it. I would've liked a prologue to give us a bit of background on the characters and an epilogue would've been great, I want to see how they're doing in a few years I did like how Ms. Winters handled the issue of PTSD among our military. I do recommend this book for a quick read before bed.
Waiting even when you don’t realize your waiting. That’s what Erin did. Caleb broke her and everyone knew it. But Caleb was so broken from Timothy’s death that he couldn’t see a way to move forward. Phoebe did an absolute amazing job writing this book using the positive information about wounded warriors. I loved this book.
A second chance story that I really enjoyed it didn't take me long to read this because I was hooked from beginning to the end great storyline and characters I voluntarily reviewed an advance copy of this book.
Caleb and Erin were high school sweethearts that got engaged shortly after graduating. Caleb enlisted in the military and ended things with Erin. This is a second chance romance and the first book I’ve read by Phoebe Winters. I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
