The Fantastic Fashion Show Plot: The occupants of Rose Petal Place are bored so they decide to throw a fashion show. All the girls are excited. Orchid wants to take over. After all she is the fashion queen. Iris can make the posters. Lily Fair and Rose Petal will perform, and Daffodil will be over trying to make some money off the show. Not sure what Sunny’s part in this will be. Everything is coming together, until Orchid disses Horace (who has feelings for her) and upset he flies to Nastina (the garden’s villainess). Seymore Snail is put on guard duty but falls asleep on the job and Nastina and Horace sneak in and ruin the clothes. The girl’s figure out what happened and Horace confirms it later when he shows up to check on how the show’s going (he has paint on his nose). The girl’s just turn the show into one with bathing suits and again everything is as sweet as a rose at Rose Petal Place
My Thoughts: When books are about fashion shows I really want to see FASHIONS! We get a little of the gowns (ruined), and the swimsuits at the end. However, if the book is about fashion and you don’t have a lot of it, then what’s the point of the book? Not that it’s a bad story. It kind of shows you that you have to use your head to turn things around for good when your original plan doesn’t quite work out the way you want it. And I will say it over and over. I LOVE Nastina’s ponytail. Why can’t I ever get mine to do that? It just amazes me that "the good guys" don't even consider extending the invitation to the "bad guys" with the thought that they might not be so bad if they did. What was the harm in letting Nastina do the fashion show? I mean YEAH she's tried to poison them a couple of times, but give her the benefit of the doubt just this once. And then why didn't I notice that Natina is a sorceress?!
The six girls, who live in a fantasy land in the back of a Victorian garden, try to put on a fashion show because they're bored. Nastina wants to be queen of Rose-Petal Place so she has her assistant, Horace Fly, try and sabotage it because she's hateful and jealous. He succeeds somewhat but the show went on anyway. The picture book is only 48 pages with full color illustrations on every page. It was a decent story considering it was very condensed.
Doing a Readathon and one of my prompts is to read a childhood favorite. So I thought I would do this book, I can even remember getting this book at age six from a garage sale in 1996 when I was visiting my grandmother with my mom and fell in love with it having already love the Rose Petal movie with Marie Osmond. Rereading today reminded me how cute and fun it was. I can't wait to read this to my little girl when I have her someday.
