People feel anxious upon entering a particular establishment. Intuition begs them to turn around and leave. However, logic tells them that they are simply entering a diner, with other occupants seated and being served. What could happen? A trio of friends stop for dinner during a road trip. They find the food to be outstanding, and the owner of the establishment is friendly and welcoming. She introduces herself as Daria. As attractive and attentive as she is, something is not quite right about the proprietress. She looks very hungry. The waitress serving the customers appears tense. The chef, a hirsute giant behind the counter, is aptly named Gorilla. There is a couple beginning to make out at one of the tables. As the two women of the trio enter the bathroom, powerful urges overcome them. Meanwhile, the couple in the dining room are openly expressing themselves sexually. Welcome to the Crossway Diner.

If you are familiar with author Wol-Vriey, then you know what you are in for. If you are not, however, this review comes with a warning. Be prepared for explicit sex, violence, and explicit sex with violence. Appearances are very deceptive in this novel, and the mind and senses are equally devoured. This is an explicit and surreal story that moves at a rapid pace. Black magic opens a portal to SADE, revealing a sentient darkness and twisted desires. SADE stands for Sex, Agony, Detention, and Enlightenment. Enter at your own risk, and whatever you do, never bring home leftovers.

I received a free e-copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review. Many maggoty thanks.

My favorite book so far!

Can we all take a moment and just admire that cover? Love it!
Anyway, on to the story.... There simply is no author like Wol-Vriey. You can always expect the bizarre when you pick up one of his titles. (Not that I've read them all, but this is something I plan on changing.) What makes his work stand out, and so disturbing to me is how he can have you howling with laughter one second, and shivering in revulsion the next. With Daria you have some heavy eroticism in there also (because well, who doesn't like lesbians? Very hot!) Typically you don't think these things work together, but he makes them work the same way a master chef can make an amazing dish with random ingredients. Going to go ahead and say this is my favorite book by him so far. This is an author I will always download as soon as I see a new release notification for.

It was a nice read to ease away the lockdown boredom from the coronavirus. Some scenes I consider to be quite sickening for the average reader and that is what I love about Wol-vriey; his ability to conjure up the weirdest, craziest scenes possible (in a mixture of sex and gore).

I know if I pick out a passage and show it to my friends, they would most probably faint. For me, I read these scenes with interest and commit them to a section of my brain- an ever growing knowledge base of “Things you can do to the human body”
Friends of mine... be afraid, be very afraid. 😜😜😜

There’s one thing I do not understand though, almost everyone who enters the cross way diner are influenced by Daria’s hold on them but yet a few remain unaffected; for example when Andy, Karen, and Craig entered the place I was half expecting them to start ravaging each other but they appear to be unaffected and functioning very normally as if they had not been in the diner at all.

And also if the diner has such an effect on visitors, it seems to only happen for visitors who come in groups but not for those visiting alone (I.e the policeman and Brie). I wonder if the effect on them could have been different.

Another thing was during the start of the story it seems like Helen the waitress was portrayed as someone who underneath all that smile hides the pain she faces from the tormented life she leads. But towards the end of the book we find out that the entire crossway diner including its employees are merely Daria’s conjurings and so that would make Helen’s ability to feel emotional pain to be questionable.

Overall, a three considering the full picture. Time to pick a non fiction and bore myself to tears

This is a story that is going to make you think about NOT stopping at that greasy spoon on your next road trip. If you see the “Crossways” diner, just keep on driving. Ladies always go with your gut and intuition, most of the time it will be right on point, tell your husbands not to stop here. Which will keep you happy, safe and alive. Do not do what one of the main characters did. She paid dearly when she didn’t heed her mind screaming at her. Now if you are into outrageous, intensely amazing sex in public places, this is your stop. You go into it thinking “this is a regular old diner” you step inside and you get a huge unbelievable surprise waiting for you inside. Good food, good sex, dead people who have come back to this diner, throw a couple monsters inside, you have the Crossways diner. What might seem fun and exciting at the beginning soon turns tragic and hellish. Be careful, you might get eaten. I really love the easter eggs through out the book, I love following those little things in the story. And this author is so good at it, it is amazing fun. Death is a female, how fun is that? She is not just death, she is a new type of Vampire that sucks a lot more out of you then just blood. Not for the faint of heart if you don’t like creepy crawly things. I was freaked out a couple times. It made my skin crawl and the hairs at the back of my neck stand up. The maggot-piranhas made me gag, a couple of other parts did too, big time. We are also introduced to a new Hell. It is SADE acronym that stands for Sex, Agony, Detention, and Enlightenment. I hope to see more books written in this environment. This world gives lust and gluttony a whole new very bizarre meaning to suffering.

Note: I received a copy of the book for free for review purposes.

This book is my first foray into the world of Wol-vriey, and it doesn't disappoint. I have issues with some of the supposedly "erotic" terminology ("vajayjay" is as unerotic a term as possible, IMO), and the pacing in the first portion of the book is a bit slow for my liking.

But when shit gets real, shit gets real. As far as the nightmare aspect of the book goes, it doesn't disappoint. There are some real batshit insane, gross-out moments. If you're after trashy filth, this fits the bill nicely.

Thanks to Wol-vriey for sending me a copy! :)

It was my first book by Wol-vriey and I honestly don't know what to think! It's not that kinda book I read. But having the opportunity to read something new and review it - is a chance I don't want to miss.

Daria was extremely creepy with lots and I mean LOTS of Sex - and with super creepy characters.

Glad I read it and tried something new but this genre ( horror erotica ?) is not really for me.

I don't think I'll ever sleep again after this one. It was full of the authors usual dark humour, which helps to level out the raging terror, but I have to admit that this one creeped me out far more than he usually does. I know I'm definitely not stopping at road side eateries for a good long while.

My second book by Wol-vriey, and like the fist one, it was fun to read. Lots of sex, lots of horror and disgust. A fast paced story that will be liked by most horrorfans.

My thanks to the author for allowing me to review this book.

This is my first book by Wol-vriey and from what other reviewers have said here on Goodreads, he is definitely an author who can weave a weird tale. I liked this story, it had some really creepy moments in it and definitely some strange ones. There is also as implied in the title, a lot of eroticism in it, which i found added to the eerie atmosphere of the book.
