It's not a perfect book, but this is the first time I've really read anything about the chiropractic philosophy of health, and I found this book very compelling on that topic.

"Your body is driven for health and wholeness and will strive to achieve it, provided there is no interference" -chapter 2 Shifting Perspectives

I didn't actually finish this book because I found this particular mindset repeated over and over again to be both frustrating, and untrue in my personal experience. While the book promotes many values that I agree with: Nutrition, exercise/movement, mental health, etc this repeated idea that the body will heal if you do your part doesn't align with how disease works. I was doing all these things and was still struck by a chronic disease that I cannot gain control over despite over a year of trying. It's not that these things aren't helpful, they are, but it's that to put your hope in doing everything "right" and you will be healthy is damaging to those that are doing everything right and still suffer from chronic, incurable disease. There is good information in this book, and it will make you healthier. But that's no guarantee that it will heal you.

This book offers a really solid overview of the 5 Essentials and a TON of appendices to help you get started implementing them into your life. It is definitely the best of the Maximized Living books that I’ve read so far and if you are interested in learning more about their 5 Essentials philosophy, this is the first book I’d recommend.

Favorite Quote: “We keep eating well even when we haven’t lost weight right away. We exercise even when our pant size stays the same. We rid of homes clear of toxic products, even when we ‘we’ve always done it’ a certain way. We visit the chiropractor even when we are not symptomatic. This is a radical departure from the prevailing perspectives in our society. It’s not prescriptive. It’s not reactive. It’s a proactive choice to do what we know our bodies need, regardless of any immediate benefit.”

A bit of an eye- opener. Well researched and very well articulated. Some parts got a bit dry, and some parts were difficult to digest ( IE when the book got heavy into statistics) yet most times they regained my attention with a well spoken testimony. Well done.

An ok overview of taking charge of your health but the book is mixed with a lot of trendy junk science.

This book has so many great nuggets to take with you on your health journey. Although it does have information on healthy living tips, it is based on the MaxLiving Theory by Dr. B.J. Hardick. He will discuss the framework of what it means to be healthy, but also that being healthy is different for every single person. You get to read 5 Essentials of MaxLiving that will help you create a balanced and healthy living. Only reason it isn’t 5 stars is because I wish there were more simplistic facts that are more concise. I come from a nutrition and exercise science background and although the information is great, it isn’t the most interesting read.

Succinct and informative. Gives a good basis for you to do your own research and find what works for your lifestyle. There are recipes and plans in here for moving away from toxins and alternatives to the treats you enjoy!
