Tawny was the last woman I claimed before heading to war. She was beautiful, ripe, and ready for me. So, I took her. We made passionate love the night before I left. The memory of her body yielding to mine stayed with me and I never forgot about her. Seven years later, we met again, and the memories of our wild night together came flooding back. But this time she's with a little boy who has dark hair and eyes like mine. She's still as beautiful as ever and I have to taste her again. So I asked her out and she agreed. Everything went well until I asked her who the boy's father was. She was silent and did not say a word. I know she is hiding the truth, but the war broke me in ways that seemed irreparable. I'm not in shape to be a father and the last thing I want is to hurt them.
I would have loved to have given more stars to this book because I love Michelle Love’s stories but honestly the characters didn’t involve me emotionally. I admit the story was promising but in my opinion both characters lacked of spontaneity, in a few words they were just too predictable. This story is about an army veteran who suffers from PSTD and stumbles into the girl who gave him her virginity. From that one night she gets pregnant and gives birth to a boy. Once they meet after several years August realizes that he hasn’t forgotten Tawny. So they both begin to see each other again while facing the difficulties of his issue. This is a second chance romance. I’m convinced that reviews are very subjective, so the reader should always give it a try and read a book. I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of the book.
This heartbreaking, but yet beautiful story follows the lives of Tawny & August, who were neighbors while growing up. They had one fantastic night together and then he left to join the marines. Several years later, their paths cross again and the passion ignites. They are both hiding secrets though, which causes issues to arise. Can their love conquer all?
This story was well written and touched on some very important life issues. I highly recommend this book to anyone looking for a great second chance romance.
You will absolutely LOVE this beautiful but heartbreaking story from Michelle Love!!! August Harlow and Tawny Matthews grew up as friends next door to each other until August went to the big kids school. Years later while moon watching on a sleepless night before heading to boot camp fate steps in to bring these two neighbors together again for one night. Seven years later, now a billionaire, August is picking his nephew up as a favor when a woman brushes past and a once remembered spark travels through his body. After ogling the fine woman he is shocked to see Tawny there with a little boy with his eye and hair coloring but won't jump to conclusions. August has always been a hero in Tawny's eyes and has kept a secret from everyone about Calums father. The attraction is still there, the spark is explosive but fate can also be a bi**h. August suffers from PTSD with the things he has seen and done while serving our country, and he is upfront with Tawny about his condition. Tawny is a nurse and is confident she can handle his episodes and help the only man she has ever loved. When August has a nightmare and accidentally hurts Tawny, he is appalled and will do anything to protect the people he loves. Tawny loves August but can she live with the decision he has made?? The road to love and happiness is a bumpy ride with twists and a few potholes for August, Tawny and Calum. I love the way Michelle Love wrote this story bringing attention to seriousness of PTSD and how it affects not only the sufferer but the their loved ones too. It also brings hope of a more normal everyday life with less episodes. This story will touch your heart on so many levels you can't help becoming entwined with the characters. A second chance story with characters you will root for, cry with, smile at and want to hug. Calum is such a sweet and smart boy and is as just as much of a main character as August and Tawny. Michelle Love is a one click author you don't want to miss. This book is part of a series but can be read as a standalone but why miss out on the others. His/her POV, no cheating, and a well deserved HEA and no cliffhanger. A definite must read to add to your favorites collection. Yes there is also a nightclub in this story that August and his partners are building.
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book and bought a copy Thank you Michelle Love 💕💕
Tawny and August, despite the four year age gap between them had played together as next door neighbours. On the night before he joins up to the Marines, he goes outside in his back garden where Tawny just happens to be moon watching in hers. She's now 18 years old to his 22 years. They kiss then passion overcomes them. The next time they see each other is years later in San Diego when he is with his nephew, Gino, and a woman accidentally touches him when she walks past him that sends a tingling up his arm that reminds him of his reaction to Tawny! But it can't be her, can it? The woman shouts a boy's name and a little boy about 6 years old turns and runs to her shouting 'Momma!' He looks like a miniature August! This second chance at romance story is exceptional and is, most definitely, my favourite story by Michelle Love. There are so many profound issues that effect the people in it. August is suffering from PTSD after a traumatic accident occurred in which his friend died. August doesn't think that Tawny could cope with his issues however much he wants to be with her and Callum. Tawny does have a secret that she doesn't know if she should confide in August and it is eating away at her conscience but when Callum's life is put in jeopardy she has to make a decision. Michelle has created such wonderful characters in August who is so troubled and wants to do whatever he can to help people and forgive himself. Tawny is wracked with guilt over a lie and her secret. August's sister is a fabulous character and she gives such great advice and support to August. I loved the way he went into automatic 'hero' take charge mode when Callum needed help.T he fact that we could 'hear' both their POV also made this so much more intimate and added greater depth as we got to understand why they reacted in certain ways. The sensitive issues she covers in the story are pertinent, realistic and , sadly, effect way too many people in life. They need to be addressed in such a way that they are addressed and not 'brushed under the carpet'. I did receive an advanced copy of this story and leave my honest review for it here.
However, as I love all her stories I purchased my own copy so that I would have the extra bonus materials to read too and support a terrific author.

ARC fronted to me by the Author for a Voluntary and Honest Review. Thank you Michelle! This is a well written, interesting book, and so in tune with current times. Recommend!
August Harlow lives next door to a wonderfully beautiful girl, there is a bit of an age difference, but once she starts to turn into a woman, he really sees her. And right before he leaves for the military, he promises one night of passion. After their night, August leaves and suffers from PTSD when he returns and gets out of the military, he is now a billionaire and trying to do better for his fallen solider while still carrying that grief with him. But one day he runs into her, the one that got away!! Will she still remember him? Can he date her?
Tawny Matthews grew up as the next door kid neighbor to August, but she always had a crush on him. And when that fateful night happened, she knew there was no going back. But she got a surprise herself that night. She hides the identity of the father of her son, Calum. She struggles but is making it on her own. But after seeing August, it has brought up feelings in her she thought she had hidden deep. Can Tawny reconnect with August? Will they both feel the spark they have held onto for many years? Can August get help with his PTSD to make things work with Tawny and August? Or will he push Tawny away since he has nightmares that turn violent?
This is a very good, emotional book that touches on PTSD and the struggles it causes and how some people deal with it. Love finds a way of making things happen. And when you admit your faults, well you are someone's perfectly imperfect partner! This story has drama, twists and turns, love, lust, romance and a HEA. I received an ARC of this book from the author.
Being one who absolutely loves stories where the main characters display substantial growth and overcome life-altering obstacles, I found this story beautiful and satisfying. Not only is it a well-written romance with rich characters, but the nature of the story is absolutely profound in the way it deals with the issues that plague August as a result of his deployments overseas. These are hard issues, not to be glossed over in a fairy-tale way, and the author has done an excellent job of tackling this tough topic with grace.
As a second chance romance, August and Tawny lit up my kindle with their fiery intensity. Geez. The little diodes inside my kindle started sparking with just their dialogue! I think flames were shooting out of it by the time they actually touched… They definitely have it going on. August and Tawny have a lot in common, too: they’re both strong, smart, self-sufficient and stubborn as mules. August is also a pure alpha male, always willing and able to take charge of any situation. Their story is sexy and delicious—the stuff good romances are made of.
There’s satisfaction on every level in this well-paced story. Readers will encounter fiery hot love scenes as well as some mature language. They'll also encounter a great story of second chances, family, perseverance, and the strength of true love.
It wasn't the best book I've read nor the worst. I did like how she dealt with August's 'condition'. I've read many books with military veterans that suffered from PTSD and this was the first that actually showed the other side, the attacks I guess you call them. If that's an offensive term I'm sorry! The one scene he had an 'attack with Tawny's son Calum there and it was more real life than more authors would've written. The instalove kinda didn't do it for me, but it was like a fairytale in that regards until real life happened. Living with someone who has PTSD is not easy especially when that person doesn't want to get help in certain aspects of their life. In the story August meets some other people who have PTSD, not all veterans. I found that the story dragged a little too much, maybe cus there wasn't much going on but the same argument over and over again? I still recommend it, because the message in the story outweighs everything else. And the special epilogue is heartbreaking yet hopeful!
I’ve now read a few books by this author and I can say in fact that so far this is my favorite book I’ve had the pleasure to read. This author not only provided a love story but took a very serious situation that faces many individuals today and turned into a realistic believable story. This story had drama, love, sweetness, all the feels, and I’m guessing some very factual information on a very serious issue PTSD. I don’t want to give anything away but I will say when a romance story pulls at you and makes you tear up and become invested in more than just the sexual tension going on that’s a good story. Michelle brought in several other characters and made them essential to the story and the plot. She relayed various ways that PTSD affects people and it may not be just in times of war. I admit I learned things I never would’ve thought about before. If you’ve never read any of this authors work I would suggest you read this particular story.
I received a free advanced readers copy of this book for a voluntary review. This is definitely a must read!!! I absolutely loved the characters in this story. Tawny grew up with August as they lived next door to each other. She is an independent single mom of an adorable six year old Calum. She is a nurse. August and her had one special night seven years ago before he left for the Marines. He came back a broken emotional man due to PTSD. He witnessed horrific things that kept him from seeking a relationship. But when running into Tawny after seven years he realized he loved her. She had always loved him. Now the problem they had was the PTSD. The book described how their relationship was developing and how the PTSD was affecting them. It described in detail how hard it was for Tawny and for August. I admire the author for tackling such a sensitive issue in the context of a potential romance. An excellent read. I highly recommend this book.
August Harlow and Tawny Mathews had a passionate one nightstand 7 years ago before he left to join the Marines. Her and Tawny meet again at the California Science Centre she's with her son 7 year old Calum who looks the spitting image of August. This was a beautifully written second chance romance. The author did an amazing job with a serious issue that so many individuals face everyday PTSD. August and Tawny were perfect together and even through tough times the love these two have for each other shined through. This was an amazing story and I enjoyed reading every page. It was well written and had a unique storyline. I highly recommend to anyone who loves a good second chance romance. I voluntarily received an advance arc copy for an honest review.
Michelle Love has written a beautiful steamy romance that captivated me from the first page to the last. On the night before he was to leave for the navy August and Tawny had a one-night stand. She has always loved August from afar and the night with August was everything she had always dreamed of and more. Seven years later August returns and meets Tawny again. She is now the mother of a beautiful 6 year old boy. Is it August's child? How will this affect the opening of his new club? How will they deal with August's PTSD? “Nightclub Surprise” is a wonderfully written story filled with intense feeling, drama, pleasure, pain, secrets, steamy sex and romance. Great book, great characters. A book worth reading. I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
Nightclub surprise is a hot, heart warming book. The story starts with a twenty one year old August, last night before going into the Marines, having an unbelievable night with his eighteen year old next door neighbor. They have the one night and then don’t see each other for seven years. They accidentally bump into each other, and their chemistry has not faded one bit. Now they have to get to know each other again. He has difficulties to get past with his PTST after years in the military. And she has a huge secret of her own. The story is very well paced and the characters are memorable and completely lovable. I couldn’t put it down. Great story!
I really enjoyed reading this book. Michelle Love took a hard look at PTSD and the effect it can have on romantic relationships with this story and came out with a beautiful romance. I absolutley loved this book and even shed a tear or two at some parts. The emotions were raw and real and it was great. I voluntarily reviewed an advanced copy of this book. Hero, August = 5/5 Heroine, Tawny = 5/5 Chemistry = 5/5 Sex = 5/5 Plot = 5/5 Mystery = 2/5 Action = 1/5 Darkness = 3/5 Humor = 1/5 POV = dual Would I recommend this book = yes Would I re-read this book = yes Would I read future books by this author = yes
Nightclub Surprise is a sweet, sexy, heartwarming and heartwrenching story that had me hooked from the beginning, and left me unwilling to put down my Kindle until the very last page. This is a beautiful second chance story that is as well told add it is well written. Tawny and August face several obstacles that seem insurmountable, even for their intense, electrifying dynamics. This book is packed with the steam, feels, feisty characters and creative story telling that I've come to love and expect from this author. Get comfy, you won't want to put this one down until the end...you might also want some wine and tissues. Just a suggestion. ;-) (reader review copy)
I was given this ARC as an honest read for an honest review. The Nightclub Surprise was a grouping of stories that warm the heart and get it racing. The first story was about August a 21 yr old getting ready to leave for the marines and a night of passion with his 18 ur old neighbor Tawny. The years pass and they run into each other. Their flame is still burning bright after seven years. But there are secrets and lies. This story is sweet, steamy, loving and fun. You want an easy read that flows look no further.
Steamy romance that deals with some serious issues too. August is a former soldier who suffers from PTSD and it impacts the relationship in numerous ways. Tawny is a nurse who can deal with it but she is also a single mother with a small child to protect. Ms. Love does a really good job highlighting the disorder along with ways to treat it. The sex is super hot and the romance is really sweet. Another good read by Ms. Love.
I received a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review it.
Loved this read! I was hooked from beginning to end, the characters really draw you into the story. August and Tawny spend once steamy night together before he leaves to join the Marines, seven years passes and neither August nor Tawny are the same people. He is suffering PTSD and she is a single mom. The chemistry is there, can they find a way back to each other? Fast paced read with plenty of drama and emotion. Great characters and very steamy.
This was an amazing book. I just loved how Michelle Love dug into PTSD and different ways that it can be treated. Then there is the awesome storyline between August and Tawny. They had a love that was deep enough to last them for years. I won't post anymore as I do not want to get into any of the stories and give any of it away. It is just better if you read it for yourself. You will love it. I know I did and I will read it again.
What a very well written must read book. This author is an amazing writer. No spoilers here. You must read to get the whole story. It caught my attention and kept it. Read the blurb then read the story. It is heartbreaking, emotional, suspenseful, loving, and so much more. I learned so much more about my PTSD with this book. I highly recommend it. I was given a review copy and voluntarily review it.
Hard Work = Happy Ending This is the first book I have read by Michelle. I liked that her story didn't end 10 chapters after they met again like so many second chance stories do. There was actually a story here with real life trials and tribulations. I'm glad the characters had to work and fight for what they wanted and ended up with. I will be reading more of her books in the future. I received an advanced copy, this is my honest review.
This is a sweet and emotional read that will make you laugh and cry. This book is exceptionnel. It has scorching descriptions and well-developed ideas. The author really knows how to write a great lovestory. I highly recommend this story. This is a standalone book with no cliffhangers. I voluntairly reviewed an ARC of this book.
This story was well written, full of action and caught my interest from the beginning, the storyline kept me intrigued and I wanted to know what would happen next. The intense chemistry between the characters was awesome and intoxicating, I couldn't put it down.

A remarkable storyline with amazing characters. August and Tawny grew up as neighbors and spend one magical night together before he goes off to join the military. Years later August comes back but is dealing with PTSD. Michelle Love did a wonderful job writing this touching story. I voluntarily received this book to review for my honest opinion.
A spectacular story that not only is a great romance but also deals with the serious issue of PTSD and it is handled perfectly. Great storyline that pulled me in from the very beginning that is both heartbreaking and heartwarming. August and Tawny are wonderful and complex characters who are perfect together. I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book.
This was another winning Michelle Love story. I loved the way it started and of course the whole story in general. She puts alot of detail into the plight of returning soldiers. I received this story as an ARC for an honest review. It's well worth reading.
