Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for the chance to read this book!
Argh, in some places this was downright scary! I felt the hairs on the back of neck rise and I haven't ever experienced anything remotely similar to what some of the people had. Basically, if you're looking for a book to scare the pants off you while presenting things just simply as the author and others have experienced, then this is the paranormal book for you. I've read many books on similar subjects, but the idea of the energy sucking Supernatural was new to me in this form. It added extra dimensions and new concepts to ideas I thought I'd read everything about.
The writing is of excellent quality too; matter-of-fact and not delving too close to personal. The author spends just enough time on subjects so as to not bore the reader, although there were times I wished things were better explained. I guess Nick needs another book! ;)
A great book on the subject, highly recommend. Five stars.
I'm not gonna lie. I read this book because I am into creepy things and believe half of what this book is about. That and I also love Nick Redfern's writing though this was the first book by him that I have read. I do read his articles on Mysterious Universe.
While I did like this book at times some of the stories just seemed too out there even for me. But then again I do guess everything is possible in this world.
I think the only true downside of this book is some of the cases he used as examples he has also done articles about on Mysterious Universe so some of them were repeats to me which got boring at times.
I ate this book up in two nights. A well researched account on all things supernatural. The research being tales from persons who have had supernatural contact, and supernatural investigators. So, no hard research, but still an enjoyable read. The general premise being that their are paranormal beings one can encounter that are set on feeding on your energy/soul.
If you are into supernatural subjects then you will enjoy this book. It covers lots of different subjects like Bigfoot, Men In Black, Black Eyed Children, Aliens and other subjects. The theories that the author comes up with are quite amazing.
Paranormal Parasites is a spooky and unsettling journey. Its arguments are as disturbing as watching maggots feed on a carcass. It is, quite honestly, a springboard to nightmares.
Unfortunately, this book is not simply grandiose speculation. Redfern hits the ground running and covers a lot of territory. His menagerie includes Black-Eyed Children, Shadow People, djinn, thought-forms, Men in Black, aliens, hungry ghosts, incubi and succubi, Bigfoot, zombies, vampires, and spectral nameless things that haunt and hunt humans.
Paraphysical creatures that literally kill and eat us are bad enough. What defense do we have against supernatural entities that secretly feed upon us?
How much soul can a soul eater eat?
Chapter 7 involves Mind Monsters. I also imagine that a tulpa or mind-creature can be created by human thought. Not in the same way that Nick and others think this is possible. After all, millions of children fervently believe in Santa without effect or consequence. No. The necessary catalyst for creation might be the intervention of a watchful nonphysical intelligence. The tulpa or poltergeist is a reflective decoy. Belief and emotion feed the original source, not the distraction.
This book makes me wonder about my own research. How often do paranormal prowlers carry out their agenda in your home while you sleep peacefully in your bed? Men, women, and children everywhere awaken and discover that they are not alone. I continue to accumulate accounts of nonhuman beings that terrify vulnerable humans at night. These are not innocent hallucinations associated with Aware Sleep Paralysis. Many victims are immediately compelled back to sleep or rendered unconscious. The motive for these paranormal home invasions has always escaped me. Are these entities enjoying a late-night snack?
Paranormal Parasites is an appetizer. This ideal portion gives readers that perfect taste of food for thought. There will always be a place for you at the table. Whether you are guest or entree is up to you. Highly recommended.
Basically, this book attempts to warn humans that they are being farmed like cattle across planet Earth as food for energy entities, inter-dimensional and extraterrestrial, who wish to eat souls. Redfern, author of 30+ books on UFOs, Bigfoot, and cryptozoology, takes readers through the minutia of anecdotal evidence for cryptids, some timeworn, a bit somewhat newer, all of it always fun and interesting. The book begins with an explanation of supernatural energy, or orgone, as defined by Wilhelm Reich, and immediately launches into soul stealing creatures from around the world. It’s hard to tell if Redfern is writing tongue-in-cheek, or in full belief; Llewellyn is the publisher—the latter is more likely. As with inexplicably grainy (in this day and age of technology?) videos of cryptids, so the personal stories, including those of alleged personnel of mysterious / forbidden locations, such as Area 51 (according to Redfern, there’s a secret facility miles underground in New Mexico), border on requiring suspension of belief. Silently dismissing mental illness or other more pragmatic sources, the author relays seemingly supernatural events as fact. Even with prior knowledge of the medical condition behind experiences of succubi and incubi, the chapters on these sexually demanding night creatures are disturbingly realistic. However, mythological lore is explored through the story of Lilith, who links Paganism, Judaism, and Christianity, as a relevant dark, feminine archetype. The highlight of the book is the concept of a tulpa, an entity created by focused energy of a group of people, with Slenderman being the most well known. Readers who accept spiritual entities for granted will be scared out of their wits by this book. Others who take it with a grain of salt will appreciate it for further forays into global legends, myths, and folklore. I was fortunate to receive an early copy of this fascinating book from the publisher #Lewellyn through #NetGalley.
Paranormal Parasites is very organized. It is organized into the types of parasites which one can and will encounter in the paranormal realm. Some are common; Shadow People and Mind Monsters. Others are less common, such as The Djinn and Soul Stealers.
Redfern begins the book with a brief overview of critical life energies. This is his foundation for the variously listed vermin. Smart!
Redfern begins with the famed, "Goat-Man of Lake Worth," and we have been hearing about him for many years, as resident's of White Settlement. Redfern is also a Texas resident. We had never heard the entire story before. The truth looks much different when one is not playing the, "Whisper Game."
There are other segments about Texan parasite's.
Chapter Four talks about the shadow people. We were surprised about their description. We thought them to appear as simple shadows. However, Redfearn states that they all wear an old-timey Fedora and a black suit?
Regardless, there has been a lot in the paranormal media about these spirits, in particular.
This is just a fabulous read. In fact, we are guessing that at least one question, applicable to this/these topics arise in our Quora queue, per week. It's just really interesting.
Shadow people, Slenderman, Mothman, Goatman, Bigfoot, Vampires, Lilith, Men (and Women) in Black, Black eyed children. These are some of the topics the author details in this book. He also includes information on Wilhem Reich who conducted experiences on subjects. He attached electricity to their genitals to measure the amount of energy emitted. He believed this energy attracted these beings. He also believed this was one reason these beings were frequently seen in lovers’ lane locations. He also talks about how believing in these beings gives them power.
This is a very interesting book. It is well researched and well written. My husband and I have watched the author appear on Ancient Aliens and other History channel shows for years. He is very knowledgeable on these topics and more. If you are interested in supernatural beings, you will enjoy reading this book.
I say 2 stars cause it was ultimately entertaining, but this was not a good or well-written book. It's a "facebook" book. No skepticism whatsoever, everything taken on blind faith as concrete proof and with little to no argument connecting the personal stories to the thesis of the chapter. Sources include parroting stories from other books, as well as what seems to be exclusively online articles. It's entertaining because they're still stories that have a "discovery channel" style of storytelling which is very camp. And the ideas ever so briefly touched on the highest surface are indeed interesting, like prana energy and orgone.
Thanks to NetGalley for this ARC in exchange for an honest review
Quick overhaul of this book, it talks about all kinds of different 'monsters' and how they feed off of us. My favorite part were the Black Eyed Children (they're pictured on the cover), I've long since been creeped out but enthralled by them. It also talks about Slenderman which is one of those cases that prove our thoughts are more powerful than we think. I loved the stories that went along with each of the monsters, some gave me chills and I had to stop reading until it was daylight again, which is how I like my creepy stories! Overall, this book is awesome!
This was a really interesting book, and went into details about the origins of the different types of entities.
I found it to be a quick read and it basically had the standpoint that this stuff is real. Do I believe, I don't know....I have never encountered any of it so I don't know...but it was a very interesting book and I honestly couldn't put it down.
Very, very interesting book. I really enjoyed the first chapter about different life forces which leads into different creatures that feed on them. When we think of different types of monsters , we should be aware.that they are real in one form or another. A lot of things that I have read about were clarified and explained. If anyone has an interest in the supernatural, they should read this. The things you hear go bump in the night could be more than a noise.. I was very excited to read this boook. I loved it. I received this book from Net Galley for an honest review. No compensation was given
Very informative and creepy book. Only gave what was needed to let you know about the different paranormal entities do it didn't get boring. Must read for anyone into paranormal stuff.
An intriguing book which was by turns, creepy and definitely scary. I truly believe that there are things out there that are mysterious and frightening. A very good book that I happened to read in one sitting. I voluntarily read this book via NetGalley in exchange for my honest opinion.
If you're not well-educated about creepy and unnatural things, don't worry. Paranormal Parasites reads astute observations and eery case studies as if Stephen King had gotten behind the wheel and whispered to the author, "No, no, no. We want to scare their pants off, so mention this and that." Thoroughly a great read all-in-all, Redfern did an excellent job at shining the light on darker things which might lurk about in the dark. Naturally, everything in it should be taken with a hint of salt as to their legitimacy, but if you're like me you've been more eager to read something scary as hell than to worry about factual nonsense. Everything at the end of the day is perceivable truth, but don't let Nick's voice go by unheard.
