In September, 2020, the Corgi Case Files mystery series was picked up by Columbine Publishing Group and published under its mystery imprint, Secret Staircase Books. Beginning in 2023, all three fantasy series will also be published under the Secret Staircase Books imprint.
The amazing detectives are a pair of Corgis belonging to a local winery owner who is thinking about courting the owner of the cookbook store. Suddenly there are three murders within a couple of days and the Corgis are diligently put to work at the request of their friend, the local police detective. Soon suspicion falls on another friend, the bakery owner who has had nothing but difficulties at the shop for the past few weeks. Great sleuthing by Corgis and humans alike. Lots of humor as well! Loved it! Bob Johnson is the perfect narrator for this snarky cozy!
I received this book for free. I am voluntarily posting this review and any opinions expressed herein are my own.
This is the 5th book in the Corgi Case Files series. You could view this as a standalone - however, a lot has happened in the 4 books leading up to this book and while the author graciously provides quick summaries of prior events referenced in this book, it really would be better to start with the first book in the series. This is such an enjoyable series that you won't regret it.
What fun! Murdered bodies are piling up - and it's so funny that not only are people noticing but they are commenting to Zack how the murder rate in their little town has risen since Zack has come to town. Finally! I've always wondered why it never gets addressed in cozies when normally quiet small towns suddenly overrun with murders when the sleuth moves in, don't have the townspeople up in arms. LOL! I really liked that Zack and Jillian's relationship is explored/expanded a bit - an added bonus was a comical date night at the town's fancy restaurant and a bit more information is provided on the death of Zack's wife. This is a fun series to read - it's like checking in on old friends.
The narrator, Bob Johnson, is always fantastic. He is so enjoyable to listen to and just perfect for this series.
There is another crime in Pomme Valley (PV). Ever since Zack Anderson moved there, the crime rate has seemed to increase dramatically. Thank goodness he has Sherlock and Watson. Who are they? They are two adorable Corgis that are actually very good at finding clues. These two have helped their human, Zack, and his friend, a detective in the PVPD, solve some of the crimes in PV. Infact, Sherlock and Watson have become quite famous in their community; they have even been hired as police consultants - through Zack of course. As a body shows up, the crew is called to try and find leads that had been missed by others. Join the corgis “pack” while they all try to solve the “Muffin Murders”.
This is Book Five in the Corgi Case Files. Although each volume can be read as a stand alone, the series is really good. We get to meet many interesting, unusual, even eccentric characters as well as the members of Sherlock and Watson’s pack. Poole uses his fun sense of humour, love of corgis and creative writing ability to bring forward another great read. If for some reason, beyond imagination that you haven’t read the first of the series, a brand new box set of books 1-3 was just put out. Go get yourself some good reading!
Pomme Valley is home to Zack, and his special Corgis Sherlock and Watson who have the knack of finding clues which help solve crimes in the area, their success rate is better than the human police detectives and their pay ìs bagel bites from Taylor's bakery.
Zack and Jillian are really enjoying each others company, can they take the next step and become more than' just good friends' ? They've both lost their spouses and are taking things really slowly.
Jillian's has lived in Pomme Valley all her life and as such, knows everyone in the small town. Taylor is one of her bet friends, she runs the local bakery, and also supplies the bagel bites which Sherlock and Watson love so much. Taylor is experiencing some very bad luck, appliances keep breaking in the bakery,or is it more than bad luck?
When several bodies turn up, a common denominator is found, things are about to get worse for Taylor! Can Zack, Sherlock and Watson save the bakery and it's lovely owner? Add to that, the fact that Jillian could be the next victim, it's imperative that the 2 Corgis act quickly!
A really good read, one which I couldn't put down! Some editing errors but nothing to spoil the story.
The more this series goes on, the less I am liking it. Although I like the characters, and the quirkiness of having 2 dogs solve mysteries a la Scooby Doo, I am not liking the motivations for crimes. This book too has an odd conclusion, and was very difficult to wrap my head around. The other point that bugged me is that Taylor thinks she is just having bad luck....once she finds her cameras disabled it should have been very apparent that more was going on. Another point....if someone eats a muffin with peanuts, it doesn't take 4 days to die. Unless the author meant that 4 days after the first muffin was eaten, another muffin was laced with peanut extract. I really liked the series for the first couple books, and found it refreshing. Now I am getting annoyed by it, and only the fact that the next one might contain information about Samantha makes me mildly interested in the next instalment. Otherwise, I'd be shelving the rest of the series.
After I read the author's first book, I left a 5⭐ review. I found it to be a delightfully humorous story, and was particularly drawn to it because I have a Corgi. His descriptions of Corgi traits and behaviors are spot on. Now, having read the 5th book, I'm finding the same issues that bug me with a lot of series. That is, this author repeats the same trite dialogues and phrases over and over again. I got tired of : "Bite me, Dude." Seriously, do grown men talk like this? It sounds like High School. "Crap on a cracker" "Do your thing" "Thank you very much" "Hit me with your best shot" The women were always "giggling"; when the men were drinking and laughed, they always " snotted". This author needs (or needed) to expand his vocabulary. I originally thought that I would follow through with this entire series, but with $4.99 per ebook, I won't be reading any more. This is lazy writing.
I do love this series. Watson and Sherlock are just the cutest Corgi detectives and of course Zachary Anderson their human side kick is great too. This is book 5 in this series and they just keep getting better and better. The narrator is the same for all 5 books which I find a great asset too. Bob Johnson does a wonderful job with the narration. Bob's voice is perfect for the character Zachary in my opinion. AS I have read these books in order it might be hard for me to judge but I feel that this book is written so that if this is the first in the series that you read you will not be lost and will enjoy the book very much. I was gifted this book with the understanding that I would leave an honest review.
With each passing adventure of Scooby-Doo and gang--I mean Sherlock Holmes and Watson. No, not the original, well, not quite, but with each passing adventure, I'm enjoying the characters more and more. I've always enjoyed mysteries. Scooby Doo is my favorite cartoon as a child, and I love the original Sherlock Holmes adventures. What this author crafts, and what the narrator for this series accomplishes vocally--adding brilliant life to each of the characters, is nothing short of incredible. I've definitely fallen in love with the narration of Bob Johnson and the story of Jeffrey M. Poole. I look forward to many more adventures with Sherlock Holmes and Watson.
When three murders occur with in the space of a few days, Sherlock and Watson are called in to solve the crimes and track down the killer in this Corgi Case Files novel. I love these adorable pooches and self-depreciating master and I really enjoyed trying to unravel the mystery of who and what was killing the victims and, of course then answering the question why. The ongoing story line also makes significant advances in this volume, both with regard to the hero's love life and the mystery of his former wife's death. A fun and very enjoyable cozy mystery.

Once again I want a corgi!! Maybe if they were a corgidoodle I wouldn't be allergic!! Can't imagine what they would look like😀. I just love your books and think I'm going to be reading the last one in print so will have to wait awhile for the next installment. 😕 I enjoy the entire cast of players, since I'm close to Pomme Valley (Jacksonville) it makes me feel like it if I drove the 15 miles I would see all "my new friends"! I absolutely love this series. If you like a good story, great characters and seriously smart and lovable canines, you’ll love this book. Start with the first book and work your way through the Corgi Case Files. They just keep getting better.
This book is so funny yet so active. The main character is hilarious! The town is charming as are mos of the people there. The two corgi detectives are delightful! Read along to see how they solve this crime spree. You might find yourself wanting one for yourself, but you will love this book! Couldn't put it down.
Sherlock and Watson strike again to solve another set of murders. I love the description of the dogs and you can totally tell by the mannerisms they def are corgies. Fun to see the relashionships between the characters develop. Looking forward to the next book in the series :)
The collaboration between Zach, the PVPD, and the corgis is great reading. I really enjoy the detail of the relationships; especially between Zach and Jillian.
The author of this series is talented. The dogs are amazing and cute. I love how Zack gets caught up in everyone's problems . Wonderful addition to the series.
