Quite early in his life, Aman had been labelled a 'weirdo'. His side-parted, oil soaked hair and gawky physique made him the butt of jokes among his peers. There is nothing spectacular in his life—he studies all day, has never had an interaction with a girl that lasted more than five minutes, and scribbles his inner musings into his best friend, a personal diary.
Deep down, however, the guilt of being considered a social killjoy by the society starts to have a negative impact on him.
When forced out of his solitary shell into the action-infused warehouse that is 'college', Aman's life takes a drastic U-Turn. Owing to a Chemistry project, he is forced to partner up with Kiara—a cheerful, carefree soul who tucks away her dark, brooding past upon arriving in Manipal.
What follows is a series of awkward encounters and quirky adventures; ones that throw them in the deep end and make them face their worst fears.

Letters in the rain is a story of badly friend zoned guy Aman. The story has three main characters named Aman, Kiara, and Girish. Author has done a good job while writing these characters and has done justice to them. There are few things about the story which I liked but the book had nothing new to offer. it was just as same as any other Indian novel where characters go to college, the boy fell in love with the girl but the girl loves someone else. The story was quite predictable and I could easily guess where it was going after about 100 pages.
Letters in the Rain by Anubhav Shrivastava, is an romantic fiction. Firstly is being an introvert that bad? Did you really want to judge them by their activities? So what's the need to make fun of them and waste our own time. This is the observation I got from Aman, lead character of the novel. Aman being an studious and hesitated one to mingle with others got a name of weidro, a loser.
Hence when he enters into the college life, it all started to change quietly. What would had happened? What did Aman learned from college apart from engineering? What made him to change? A simple answer a girl, opposite to aman's character. Find this cute little love story with author's own way of story turn. Just like having speed breaker on the good flat road.
What I liked most is differentiating hobby and passion after that pursuing the passion of kiara and aman. The narration was good with lucid language, it makes me to finish in one sit.
Overall, Letters in the Rain have a good plot of intresting story along with beautiful cover makes to pick for good short time.
The book opens with the story of Aman, a school boy, fondly addressed as a nerd, whose life revolves only around books and has nothing to do with the society. As life happens, he was forced to step into a new world, Manipal Institute of Technology, where his fear holds him back from getting along with his pals. Then, Kiara, a charismatic, young beautiful girl with no interest in studies but profound interest in life and music enters Aman's life and shows him what life actually is. She brings him out of his comfort zone and shows the talents hidden in him. Kiara, being a loser herself with a rude father, helps Aman in his every ways of life. But their smooth journey of friendship take s a tow when Girish, the editor of Manipal Writers Mania enters their life. The new arrival breaks the bond between Kiara and Aman, who has now developed an inexpressible love for Kiara. Further the story unveils if Aman was able to get his love back and what made the bond fragile between them both.
This book is a tale on friendship, love, dreams, wishes and hopes. This story is easily relatable to every college goers and it also can wash off the readers fear in their own talent. It gives new hope to readers and guides us to show lights on the talents hidden in our inner self. The characterisation was perfect and the character of Kiara will stay with me forever. Narration was good and the poems in the middle of the chapters were an essence of refreshment. The usage of simple language and lucid language comforts the reading. The storyline was a bit dragged in the middle which could have shortened.
The title goes well with the book but the cover could have been better. The blurb also provides an insight on what's hidden in the book.
This book rightly goes well with,"It doesn't matter who was with you when you were happy. All it matters is who held your hands when you are loosing your hold on life".
Here are accordingly scores of romantic fiction books are coming, but this book's title grabs my attention. Charge shield is pleasant, but if it is not very morsel full of character at that time it looks improve on and vibrant. Straight away arrival to the plot, Aman Malhotra is a reflective drip who is a collective misfit. His parents are from North and South India. He's just lonely is his diary everywhere he pours his thoughts. Looked-for to a few wits he couldn't crack IIT and in the end went Manipal University, somewhere he met Kiara Mehta. She has thoroughly reversed to Amman in entire aspects. She enjoys music, delightful rations and forever and a day desire to be felicitous. The position brings these two qualities more rapidly and they became agreeable friends. Time slips away and they like both other presents. Afterwards a while Aman in progress to like her, but she selects Girish as her soul mate. At this point, Aman dismay for this and misconstruction assume put in between their friendship. What will happen next? How Aman makes all wrong right? There are so many twists and turn will come. Then just break the book without a second opinion. Linguistic communication and narration are good. Some level of beginning description is a little bit gamey, but we can cut it when focusing on the whole floor.
Book Name: Letters in the Rain Author Name: Anubhav Shrivastava, Ananya Roy Format: Paperback No of Pages: 200 Publisher: Rumor Books India (7/12/2017) Blurb: The blurb section of the book has been written in a compact way highlighting the core content of the book, without any exaggeration. As it is giving a clear about what the book may contain, so I’d say that the blurb is apt indeed. Cover: The front cover of the book is looking not only good, but it is pretty much eye catching, and thoughtfully designed. It is justifying the substance of the book exactly, and I must say that it is a nice job done by Vitasta Bhan. Title: Title of the book is indeed a catchy one and unique. This title has enough capability to make the reader curious about the book and turn the pages of course. Though the titular reference has been mentioned at the extreme last section, but overall, it is complementing the theme and base story to a high extent, hence I consider this appropriate. Language & narration: Language of the book is lucid & simple enough to comprehend. There are quite a few places where I found visibly rich words to ornament the sentence and formation of sentences maintained a classic touch throughout the book; it impressed me a lot. (Though, mentioning of “F” words at places made a bit uncomfortable, as I am not used to with this, but never matters) Uses of Hindi languages are there in a few sentences and their meanings are also being given in the brackets along with them accordingly. I noticed some really funny and good sense of sarcastic humor in some lines of the book, and I enjoyed them really. The descriptive, fast pace, clear narration made the book a pleasure read and narrating style is evidently mature and well presented till the end of the book. Especially the descriptions are making the scenes visualizing in front of eyes. Overall, it was easily connecting narrating style that can be considered as one of the strengths of the book as well. Plot: The plot has been crafted very thoughtfully & in an unpredictable way. The base idea of bringing the completely two different kind of personalities from different background together and then complementing them with each other by making the best out of them, while developing a pure bond, is highly commendable and well woven story from a touching plot I must say. Setting: Setting of the story is in primarily Delhi, then Manipal, Udupi, Mumbai. Characterization: All the characters mentioned in the book have been justified to their respective roles and each of them has their own significance according to the story need. Crystal clear characterization is the actual ‘USP’ of the book. Basically, differences of characteristics are the main key factors that helped the story to leave a long lasting impact in the mind of the reader. Let’s have a look at the names of the characters mentioned in the book- Aman Malhotra, Sheetal Aunty, Mrs. Renu, Sudha & Suneel, Tarun Mamu, Geetanjali, Meera, Venkatesh Kamath, Mrs. Namrata Pai, Kiara Mehta [*Heenah Ali Khan*], Supriya, Tara, Meghna, Rajiv Mehta, Mr. Prabhu, Mr. Sinha, Victor, Waseem, Shambhavi, Kasturi Akka, Girish Kumar, Shruti. Theme: Love, Romance, Friendship, Inspirational. . Story in a nutshell: The story revolves around the life of two youngsters and their surroundings. Aman Malhotra (from South Delhi) was an extreme book nerd and study oriented, reserved, serious, extremely introvert type of guy and his personality depicts the lack of smartness inside him quite evidently. He was a highly meritorious boy with ‘ocean of talent’; but due to his outer appearance (side parted oil soaked hair with gawky physique) and reserved, bookish nerd type nature, he was the main elements of fun, leg pulling & humiliation in front of people around him (be it his class mates or neighbors, anyone). Since his childhood till the end of his Board Exams & school life, he managed to exile in every exam in every standard and scored outstandingly and record breaking way. He was the topper of the toppers of his era and nobody was even close to him in his study as competition, but still, he labeled as “Weirdo” among the entire circle. He found his breathing into writing his heart out and thus he made his diary as his ‘best friend’. In the diary, he actually used to reveal his inner self, thoughts & express like never before. But he lost focus due the mental fight again the fact that he is ‘not socialized person’, ‘not smart’, and ‘a LOSER’ which people thought of him; this losing of focus a bit, did cost him a lot, as he failed to make it to IITs or BITS, but he managed a 100 % Scholarship seat in Electrical and Electronics in Manipal University. The nerd who didn’t know to have a communication properly finally landed in Manipal for his College. Leaving his hometown and giving a thought about spending days with a bunch of new unknown people struck in his mind and he was not confident at all if he will be able to make it to the end or not. But life is unpredictable and so are moments. In the same college, he crossed paths with Kiara… Kiara Mehta was a jolly type, full of life, pretty lovely girl and her charm made her extremely popular among her surroundings. Kiara lost her mother in her early childhood and brought up single handedly by her father Rajiv Mehta. Though she didn’t share a good bond or potential equation at all with her father at home. Rather, days of growing sometimes become really miserable and pathetic because of her father over expectations and behavior towards her. Kiara was not good at studies ever, loathed studies or, it’d be better by saying that she was an average type of students with ‘managed to pass’ type of records. She believed in enjoying every moment to the fullest, but perhaps wasn’t the best at prioritizing academics over personal pleasure. She had a deep fear of becoming a loser in her life, she was uncertain about her future. The only solace she found to give her heart and soul is Piano & music. Playing Piano is like life to her. As per her nature, Kiara befriended with Aman earlier than expected and as per his nature, Aman was not reciprocating too initially. But changes were happening following the hand of ‘Chemistry Project’. Both of them were being paired up for submitting a Chemistry Project together. And in spite of Aman’s indifference at first, things seemed o become normal gradually as Aman found ease around Kiara. That was the first time Aman came out of his cell and mixing himself up with the newly grown bond of friendship, as the word “Friendship” is new to him. As they got to know each other well, and with some close interactions, regarding or outside study, they became the best of friends. Aman’s life was and vision was changing to get close with Kiara, as he started to explore ‘Life’ actually, and Kiara’s grades were also improving with the help of Aman. Together they made a super bond. Eventually, with entirely and only support and help of Kiara, Aman became a part of Manipal Writer’s Mania through Girish, who was the president of the same and a close friend of Kiara. Aman’s talent surpassed every limits and he became the most popular writer in the circle within no time with huge fan base. This new writing platform gave the passion for writing of Aman a new level and Aman aced that platform with class. Meanwhile, Kiara was eyeing on the “Frederic Choplin International Piano Competition” to achieve a new milestone regarding her passion and dream for music. Both of them got engaged with their priorities in their respective lives and their bond was losing the grip as well… with time. But something happened, that ended their strongest bonding in a hard way and made them part their ways…. What happened after that? What was the reason behind the breaking of their bond? Will their passion for writing & music get lost in the midway due to the separation? Will they ever come across again in future? Will Aman be able to achieve new horizons of life or be lost again in his old version? Will the dream of Kiara get fulfilled? To know their journey and to know what Letters in the Rain is all about, pick this book up and go through it. My Verdict: A super touching tale of friendship, love and life has been portrayed in the canvas through this book by the authors. The dilemma of heart of Aman for being the fun element for every people, the pain of facing the indifferences and humiliation since childhood, the joy of founding new relationship of innocence with Kiara, the pain of heart of Kiara since childhood, the strong genuine nature and bonding of friendship, following the passion of hearts, the gradual changes in the life of Aman, the pain of his heart after the separation from Kiara, his musing for writing, his constant deep love for Kiara, Kiara’s indirect support to Aman, family’s support towards Aman, mother’s love, changes in the life and future of Kiara and vivid description about the scenic beauty & the significance around the places of Manipal, last but not the least, “Extremely Touching” Poetries and meaningful Articles of Aman, everything have been presented and portrayed significantly in the book and I loved every bit of pleasure reading the book to be honest. Recommendation: I would definitely love to recommend this book to avid readers who are looking forward to go through a different type of in depth significant read. Book lovers can give this book a try, and it won’t disappoint them I can say. Thank you. Rating (Overall): 4/5 Stars.

This book actually shows a very different world of love and trust. With a very different plot Author really did a great work. I loved this book and every character the Author portrayed. Aman the protagonist of the book is in love with studying whole day until his love shifts from book to someone who has a complete different perspective towards life and someone who never bullied Aman like others. Kiara, the only person who changes Aman's life completely but as you know this is love. Love has various hurdles to be passed and every hurdle you pass together takes you more close to your beloved. This book takes you on an amazing ride between love and life. Overall ratings- 4.7/5 Narration-5/5 Characterization-5/5 Plot-5/5 Title-5/5 Cover-5/5
‘Letters in the Rain’ by Anubhav Shrivastava and Ananya Roy is a beautiful and riveting piece that lingers around the subtle human emotions. I am spellbound by the whole narration that just lets you drown in the deluge of emotions.
The book has been written meticulously covering different dimensions of a human personality. It talks about ambition, relations, versatility, success and most importantly, accepting yourself the way you are born. Do not lend a thought to how others might perceive your actions. Rather be firm on your abilities and hit the trail.
The protagonist Aman was my favorite throughout the story. His characterization is also good. He could be an inspiration for the students to know how to balance everything in your life. It is not difficult to multi-task. You just need to know how to do it the right way. To him, his academics matter the most and this hampers the overall development of his personality. But after meeting Kiara, he realizes how simple the life is. He discovers himself and taps into his potential to turn into a highly appreciated writer. I am impressed with his poems. They have a depth that could heal you by expressing your heartfelt emotions. They are relatable and therefore, strike a chord of the reader’s heart. The friendship between Aman and Kiara has a lot to teach us. It speaks at great length about the purity and sanctity of this relationship. A friend is the one who stands for you and believes in you when even you lose faith in yourself. Kiara is the perfect example of this. Though both of them share a unique equation, the mist of misunderstanding and jealousy draw them apart. This particular incident teaches us the value of imbibing trust in one’s friendship with the other. Jealousy is a cruel entity and one should never let it mar any of his relations. By the end, things turn right. Aman realizes his folly and understands about the true essence of his friendship with Kiara. “Dreams were finally being realized. Hope was a letter they could finally send, for love was a country they had learned to defend.”
The plotline is not very exceptional but the narration left me wondering about the life of the characters of the novel. The narrative is cohesive along with a smooth development of characters. The right proportion of beautiful words along with expressions just makes this book really enjoyable. It was an immense pleasure to read it. The title is perfectly in tune with the content of the book. However, the cover could have been better to relate to the story. Overall, the book was an engaging ride. I am looking forward to reading more stuff from the authors.
If you are the one who has a penchant for intriguing poetries and an equally mesmerizing prose, do read this book!
Anubhav and Ananya, the two authors behind the "Letters in the Rain" have given us a story that is soaked in adolescent memories.
I hadn't even read a couple of pages before I began relating to the characters in the book. Aman Malhotra and Kiara Mehta are personalities straight out of our life, people who are just like our teenage selves.
The story begins with classroom adventures of a shy boy who learns to live precariously with the help of a wild and free girl.
Following was my favorite part of a prose in the book:
"Human mind always craves for love In their empty heart resides a vacuum for longing But when that craving turns into a habit At One point everything breaks
Some people call it intense love Some call it obsession Some call it addiction Whatever you may call it It inadvertently muddies the waters"
Mid way through the book, the authors surprise us with a series of such moving poems hidden within Aman's letters. They each talk about life and love and everything in between.
The book, I noticed, doesn't have a plot. It follows the daily happenings and events of our protagonists.
Till the very end, the 'masala loving' part of me was hoping for a dramatic twist in the story or at least an anti climax but it never came.
The writing is simple and narrative, describing the learning explorations of teenagers. The language is easy to understand and rich in it's own way.
Although it would have benefitted with a better storyline, the book still fills you with warmth when it takes you down the memory lane.
Cuddle with a warm cup of coffee on a cold morning and enjoy this book. A chance to travel across the beautiful ghats of Manipal with two teenagers in love is worth it!
“Charm is the ability to insult people without offending them; nerdiness the reverse.” ― Nassim Nicholas Taleb
If you were a studious child during your ‘spring’, you would have gone through the emotional turmoil of being called various names. Each one of use passes through that stage where we receive our quota of appreciation and are yet blamed or mocked by others. Life is a funny concept. And even funnier are the people who live it.
‘Letters in the Rain’ is a tale that talks about the life of a nerd, more appropriately- a weirdo, who cherishes the buffet of knowledge. With negligible social skills, Aman, the protagonist, is like a fish out of water when it comes to making friends or initiating a small talk. A cog in the machine, Aman is meticulous yet an outcast. Girls find him repulsive because of his over-studious nature. He is resolute but still lacks confidence when it comes to making an acquaintance. One-third of the story builds up the character of Aman and his only friend- his Diary. Though the author (s) has tried to branch out and make the story interesting, the clichéd love story between Aman and Kiara, an ebullient and precocious classmate, fails to pass muster.
The story has nothing new to offer yet the exemplary vocabulary and the fluid narration style makes the book readable. The simple language and the straight-forward storyline are banal yet it is made interesting with appropriate character development. Nevertheless, ‘Rumor Books’ doesn’t fail to impress with fine-tooth comb editing.
Letters in rain is a romantic fiction by Anubhav shrivastava and Ananya Roy .
The story revolves around the life of a nerdy boy , Aman, whose life is nothing more about studies and books. The only prized possession in his life is his diary .He is just opposite of what every guy in today's world wishes to be . But his life takes a 360 degree turn when he enters the college life . Kiara, a personality which is poles apart from that of Aman, enters his life and then things start to change .
Will this new change last in Aman's life forever ?
Grab the book to know more .
The title of the book is good . The cover is of the face of a boy and a girl with the contrast of blue and black colour . Though different , it didn't appeal me much . The language of the book is simple and the story is slow paced .
The plot is good but not something very unique . I found the story to be quite predictable with two opposites meeting and the guy falling for the girl . I really liked the way the characters are described . They are well crafted and make connectivity with the readers . The narration is done beautifully and it made me hooked till the end .
Overall a nice attempt . Definitely a treat for the romance lovers out there.
‘The Letters In The Rain’ by Anubhav Shrivastava and Ananya Roy is a thriller novel. The title of the book clearly reveals that the book has a love story in it. When I held the copy of the book the first thing that struck my mind was that why was the book’s name “Letters In The Rain?” When I read the book the suspense opened out. The cover of the book is very attractive like its title. The story is very distinguishing one. The book revolves around the main character of the book Aman. He was always criticized and mocked by his people around him. He lived in an isolated atmosphere. He hardly cared about the way he was treated as his only aim in life was to excel in his career. He only focused on his studies. He had a diary in which he used to jot down his feelings. He considered his diary as his best friend as his diary was the only one with whom he could share his feelings openly. A ray of happiness entered his life when he was paired up with Kiara for a Chemistry project. She brought happiness and friendship in his life and changed his perspective towards life. The book was a very inspiring read for me as it taught me how to be strong even during adverse circumstances and how to be focused towards your goal. Overall, it was a wonderful read.
Letters In The Rain by Anubhav Shrivastava and Ananya Roy.
Well lets start from the books title and cover. The title,'Letters in the rain' is without doubt beautiful and goes well with the books content and the cover is mysterious and intriguing. The combination is perfect in short. The story starts with Aman being labelled as nerd and weirdo among his peers in school. But it mattered less to him because he loved studying and learning and about friends he had only one that is his diary. Then he joins Manipal and everything starts changing when he meets Kiara. She makes me see the world from different perspectives and then he realised his true self. What I really liked about the book is its rich vocabulary, it's highly effective and entertaining in its path of narration. The story had a different plot, which made it all the more interesting because it's not about just another story but reality, unfulfilled dreams, realisations, knowing your true self and what actually friendship is. Life is never a bed of roses but it's our passion, determination, love be it in any form and most important the memories we make in its wake are the most important ingredients of a successful life. The thing because of which I was able to connect with the book is, in our lives we always run behind grades and getting a top notch job without much pondering upon our life and finding the one single piece which will complete the puzzle of our life but we can never find it because we are terrified what the society will think and where we will end up if we fail. Then we drop the idea even without trying it. This is the state of almost everyone today. This particular thing was beautifully described in the book that following ones dream will be not easy but if you dare to follow them then you will lead a content life forever. Then the friendship of Kiara towards Aman was commendable, it has increased the bar to an incredible level. The poetic touch and many psychological aspects in the book had made it even more gripping beacuse it makes us think too and makes us admire the understanding of the authors about various things which we never dare to think. The book is a good read indeed with very rare things to be criticised about. Is highly recommended.
When two different shades mix up they make a contrast complementing each other… or a good match!
Letters in the Rain gives such a mix up, contrasting match… Aman and Kiara; a cheerful butterfly and a book worm. You could find them around you easily, it’s like a next door story. The story follows their life, how it brings them together, their influence on each other and how they evolve. Ah, but it is not just them there are others who are walking along with them on their life path too, with their share of the story.
What is best about this book is that, each character will leave an impact on you, the character frame is strong and promising, they will talk to you and make you hear them. The story might feel not so new, but it is worth to know about them…. their emotions, the change they embrace and the events they welcome!
I loved the title, it giver warm feeling I suppose; also the book cover design is something catchy matching the level and feel of the title.
I will rate this book 4/5 🙂 and welcome my readers to give it a try.
The Letters in the Rain is second novel by Anubhav Shrivastava. After reading his first novel "One Last Time" which was absolutely brilliant, my hopes were high from this one and i found this novel satisfying my expectations.
Book Title and Cover- Starting my review with the book title, it is appropriate with the content. Subtitle and Cover are beautiful and gives us hint about the story. Blurb is short and could be improved.
All in all, First Impression of book attracts readers.
Language and Narration- Language of this book is simple yet impressive. Narrating style is decent and together with pace, story flow is effortless.
Characterization- All the characters of story are defined well. The transformation of talented and shy Aman (main protagonist of our story) is done very well.
Storyline and Plot- Author has amazing storytelling skills which i am sure you'll feel while reading this book. All the college scenes are written brilliantly. The balance between past and present story is good. With all the unexpected twists and turns and smooth storyline, author serves another brilliant book and entertain his readers thoroughly.
RATINGS- Book Cover and Title- 3/5 Language and Narration- 3.5/5 Characterization- 4/5 Storyline and Plot- 4/5
Final Rating- 3.5/5
Overall, The Letters in the Rain is romantic fiction with all the essential elements like Love, Friendship, Love Triangle and Emotions.
I will recommend this book to Romantic Fiction Lovers.
The story revolves around the protagonist Aman who is very shy in nature and is always engrossed in studies. With no friends, Aman was an introvert and his only companion was his diary where he poured out his heart. However, after getting into college and meeting Kiara his life takes a U-Turn followed by a hell lot of events.
Realistic plot with good pace from one scene to another along with subtle theme makes it an interesting read. Characters are real and lively writing style makes it a good read. The book can be completed in one sitting. Furthermore, the small poetry towards the end acts like an icing. However, this book is of more use to all romance lovers as it holds a complete packet of love, relationships, and everything. A must read for all romance lovers.
‘Letters In the Rain’ is a novel written by Anubhav Shrivastava and Ananya Roy. The story of the novel revolves around its protagonist Aman and the people connected with him. Aman, a studious, nerdy and geeky guy who was labelled as ‘weirdo’ both in school as well as college. He literally had nothing to do except studying all the time. His parent was one proud parent in the whole locality. When his college days started, he met a girl named Kiara, who was different from all the person he met till date. She never judged him, nor she called him weird. She was one supportive and true friend. Using this story author showed the reality that persist in our society because of mind set of certain parent. I must say, this book is a comprehensively excellent work. I loved all the poems.
World can be a better place to live in if we have a good friend with us in all the phases of our life whom we can share everything. In the novel, Kiara was such friend to Aman. Before meeting Kiara, Aman was jerk, but Kiara made him believe in himself. I liked the way author portrayed the character of Aman and how he penned down the way Aman tried to change himself. I liked the way author portrayed a passionate Kiara, who showed sometimes, it is not necessary to score best in class to achieve what you always desired. It is the passion and hard work in any field which can bring success. The story is very beautifully described so is the plot of the novel.
Letters in the Rain is a fictional novel written by Anubhav Shrivastava and Ananya Roy. The story is about a boy who was a scholar but people consider him as a big-time loser. The reason been his geeky feature, his zero-social life and the way he interacted with people. Author has described Aman’s character as a social killjoy and a weirdo kid who knew nothing beyond his academic’s life. During college days, he met with a girl and they became good friends. Aman’s behavior started changing when Kiara came to his life. Author has written the plot very beautifully and also they described the beauty of Manipal in a very beautiful way.
What will you do if your classmates don’t consider you normal? Do you try to prove that you are just like them or do you believe that there is something wrong in you? ‘Letters in the rain’ is the story of a geeky guy whose classmates called him ‘weirdo’ both in school as well as college. Aman the geeky and weirdo guy who did nothing except studying all day. He never tried to change himself until he met Kiara in college. He tied to Kiara by chance by their chemistry teacher. They became good friends then. Author showed how Aman’s life took U-turn when he met Kiara. Overall, the plot is interesting and story had my attention all the time.
After reading the name of the novel, I thought it must be a love story where lovers used to write letters to each other and something to do with the rain. But it is not so, this novel is not a love story in particular. It is a mixture of emotional and motivational tale of a young boy whose whole class labeled him as weirdo because of his studious nature and geeky features. The plot is amazing and poems are literally well written. One can easily see pain in the poem written in the book. Overall, I enjoyed reading the book.
I have read ‘One Last Time’ written by Anubhav Shrivastava and I liked the book so much and then I decided to read his second book. The level of expectation that I set from this book, author has maintained that. The plot is quite amazing and I think it is a must-read book for parents who think that only good marks on score card can set your life. Perfect example in this case is kiara. Kiara always listened to her heart and followed her passion. Kiara was way more successful than some nerdy student of her batch. I liked this book very much.
This is a story of a nerdy guy Aman whose world starts from academics and end there too. He has nothing else to do in his life. Kiara’s character (Aman’s friend in college) is shown totally opposite from Aman. She is one lively girl who enjoys her life only and very passionate about music and piano. Author penned down the story in a very beautiful way. I completed whole book in one go. Poems are very beautifully written. I enjoyed reading the book.
It is a story of love and friendship between Aman and Kiara. Aman, the geeky and nerdy guy and Kiara, who loves to enjoy her life. There was no similarity between them, still they were best friends. Author has penned down the character of Aman and Kiara very beautifully and very thoughtfully. There is no doubt that it is a must read novel for all the parent and student.
Aman, a geeky and nerdy guy who used to study all day. The story is about Aman and his friend Kiara. Author has described the character in great detail and plot is also very amazing. I loved the way story flows and the beauty of Manipal described in the book. I mainly liked the part when Kiara left everything behind and started following her passion.
“Letters In The Rain” is the second book by Anubhav Srivastava that I read. The only change this one had that it was a co-authored book. Honestly the author managed to impress me both the time. The blurb of the book had madr it quite interesting and it will force the readers to turn the pages. The cover of the book could have been designed more better.
The book consists of two main characters Aman and Kiara. College Days always add many beautiful as well as bitter memories in everyone’s life. The same happened in Aman’s life as well. Always a school topper and talking less will people was what school days Aman used to be. He continued the same personality in initial days of college too but then with the passing of days they was a vast change in his personality. One could relate with many parts of the book and I bet many readers would relate to the whole story of the book. In short, this book proved to be a perfect read for me. The less characterization gave more perfection to the story. The language of the book was quite simple to understand. Both the authors had worked great and done a marvellous job. Although, I has expected a different ending but still I loved reading each page. I would recommend this book to everyone who is reading this review.
Very rare books are written which will guide you and help you to identity yourself. I'm kinda lucky to be provided this book for a review purpose and I'm glad that I didn't finish it in an single sitting but invested days in it. Letters in the Rain is so far the most beautiful book I have read by an Indian author. I'm always prejudiced when I'm given a romantic read because there are very few books which left me content and extraordinarily happy, I'm glad this book gives me immense pleasure.
Aman, a weirdo and asocial person who never have had a friend in his life expect his textbooks and a diary. He sailed smoothly every academics but something in him was injecting pain in him. It was his parents wish that he may have some friends and have his share of fun but he couldn't understand it why. But sooner everything changed in his life as Kiara walked into his life. Jovial Kiara soon became live wire of his monotonous lifestyle but as we know everything is short lived, so does their friendship. Over the years both developed their potentials and everything was left in the hands of god.
While penning down this review, I remember I started recreating their story in between. Impact of the book, may be. :) Every character is beautiful weaved and placed into the plot. Language was something which was very pleasing to read. The best part about the book was poetries which helped the book to justify it's title, the story and the theme. Adding touch of poetry in prose has become common these days but if you personally ask me I would say that only Anubhav and Ananya can justify it. The only thing which troubled me about the book was it's cover and font size. Else this book is magical and will truly leave it's readers spellbounded.
I would love to rate it 4/5 stars. I'm telling you if you enjoy Indian authors and aficionado of romance read then do read this book.
Friendship is essential for our lives. Especially when we meet new people, the lingering bond often gets amalgamated with love. People mistaken friendship for love & viceversa. Thus leading to end of relationships which is often displeasing.
Cover is beautiful, animatedly designed. Title is good. Aptly selected with the plot. Theme consists of love, sadness, friendship, family, true love, unrequited love, betrayal, pain & many aspects infused together.
Book is about true friendship, love, passion, joy, happiness & other related things. I won't be discussing much about the context of content as they can be easily deciphered from the blurb. What I liked the most is the book talks about togetherness & the essence of living life in a simplistic manner. Especially when it comes to living down to earth & not taking anything for granted!
Indeed Letters in the rain is a very interesting and appropriate title for the book. The title itself brings out the positivity associated with the plot. Life is a bowl of cherries. Some cherries are rotten while others are good; it’s your job to throw out the rotten ones and forget about them while you enjoy eating the ones that are good! There are two kinds of people: those who choose to throw out the good cherries and wallow in all the rotten ones, and those who choose to throw out all the rotten ones and savour all the good ones. Letters in the rain not only displays the emotions attached with the plot but also acts as a catalyst to all the encounters that take place throughout the plot. We always tend to have a negative impact on us for example; there is a magnificent, beautiful, wonderful painting in front of you! It is intricate, detailed, a painstaking labour of devotion and love! The colours are like no other, they swim and leap, they trickle and embellish! And yet you choose to fixate your eyes on the small fly which has landed on it! Why do you do such a thing? Letters in the Rain fights the negativity and creates the perfect romantic atmosphere to start the plot.
REVIEW OF THE BOOK-
Highly sensitive people are too often perceived as weaklings or damaged goods. To feel intensely is not a symptom of weakness; it is the trademark of the truly alive and compassionate. It is not the empath who is broken, it is society that has become dysfunctional and emotionally disabled. There is no shame in expressing your authentic feelings. Those who are at times described as being a 'hot mess' or having 'too many issues' are the very fabric of what keeps the dream alive for a more caring, humane world. Never be ashamed to let your tears shine a light in this world. I really loved the way Aman was portrayed in the plot. As the plot moves on, we also get a hint of the way the authors has portrayed love to us. Genuine love is rarely an emotional space where needs are instantly gratified. To know love we have to invest time and commitment...'dreaming that love will save us, solve all our problems or provide a steady state of bliss or security only keeps us stuck in wishful fantasy, undermining the real power of the love -- which is to transform us.' Many people want love to function like a drug, giving them an immediate and sustained high. They want to do nothing, just passively receive the good feeling. The introduction of the next character (Kiara) in the plot brings a change in the course of the plot. Everybody has a home team: It’s the people you call when you get a flat tire or when something terrible happens. It’s the people who, near or far, know everything that’s wrong with you and love you anyways. These are the ones who tell you their secrets, who get themselves a glass of water without asking when they’re at your house. These are the people who cry when you cry. These are your people, your middle-of-the-night, no-matter-what people. Each time you meet an old emotional pattern with presence, your awakening to truth can deepen. There’s less identification with the self in the story and more ability to rest in the awareness that is witnessing what’s happening. You become more able to abide in compassion, to remember and trust your true home. Rather than cycling repetitively through old conditioning, you are actually spiralling toward freedom. I also loved the metaphorical meaning which the author has tried to developed through his plot, In today's world, it is tempting to follow suit and artificially numb the emotions you don't want while inducing the ones that you do want. The problem is that pushing pleasure into your veins will not get you out of quicksand, nor will blocking pain bring you relief. The solutions do not lie in the world of emotions, but rather in the world of thoughts. Letters in the Rain beautifully describes the fight of emotions and negativities. It describes how to win Life. Don’t be afraid to stand tall in YOUR truth! Boldly and confidently face everything that has, and is, keeping you bound. Fight for your inner peace! Fight for your happiness! Fight for everything and everybody that’s important to you! You are NOT a victim! Don’t even play into that. You owe it to yourself to LIVE! Live your life without the regrets, without the resentments, without the unforgiveness, without the blame game, without the self-pity, without any and everything that keeps you from experiencing true joy within! You are too important to waste your life away! Learn to appreciate and value your life, but most importantly, learn to appreciate and value yourself! You count too, no matter what you’ve done!
I would recommend the book for you. You can buy it from
Overall I would like to rate the book 42 on a scale of 50. 4 stars out of 5 1. Originality of the plot and sub plots- 9/10 2. Net emotions in the story- 8/10 3. Usage of words and phrases-8/10 4. The title, cover and the illustration-8/10 5. The net impact on the readers- 9/10
Life is truly a matter of choices, reactions, and actions. Each and every choice is governed by our reactions which in turn affect our actions and consequently the future turn of events.
Letters In The Rain is the tiniest and thinnest book I have ever read. This book is about unrequited love and true friendship. It is a college love story wherein we have Aman, the quintessential nerd who prefers digging his face into his books instead of looking up and talking to people. And we have Kiara who feels she is better off steering away from engineering books and finds solace in her music. Two different people, two different personalities and one single love story. Not a novel concept and a very typical setup. Is this book worth your time? Well, read on to know what I feel about this book.
I LIKE Letters In The Rain Because, …I loved the cover of the book. Please, don’t judge me when I say that I selected this book because of its interesting cover. I like how the two heads blend into one to give you two faces with different expressions. The colour combination of blue, white and black makes the book extremely alluring.
…the language is simple I could finish it in one sitting.
…I specifically liked a write-up on ‘Importance of Arts and Humanities in our Education System’. Now I am commerce student but when I completed my schooling I wanted to pursue arts stream. But my parents were of the perception that only students with less percentage pursue arts so I was compelled to take commerce despite my hatred for maths. In this book, Aman is asked to write a blog post on the importance of arts in our society and Aman does a fantastic job at explaining how arts has indeed helped multiple fields of work. For instance, Aman writes, “Mangalyaan cost a mere $74 million dollar while NASA’s expense was about $672 million. They did this not only by scientific knowledge but also creative thinking since they structured a less cumbersome orbit.” (Please ignore the redundant word ‘dollar’ in this sentence.) I wish every parent reads this write-up and understands that arts is not the last option for a student but rather a preference for the creatively inclined. Humph!
I Do NOT Like Letters In The Rain Because, …of the inconsistency in writing. For instance, chapter 1 is slow-paced and the writing is very mediocre. But in chapter 2 the writing gets crisp and eloquent. I may be wrong in assuming that the two chapters are written by two different people but this is what I felt throughout the book. Some chapters would be written colloquially with several grammatical errors while some chapters felt like it was written by an experienced writer. The writing throughout the book is not dismal. It is good especially compared to a lot of romance novels available in the market. It is just that some chapters need a lot of fixes while some chapters are nearly flawless. A minor point that bothered me was that the narrator would address the character Venkatesh Kamath by his name while Aman and Kiara would call him by his surname. Since the book does not have many characters as I reader I was able to remember that Venkatesh and Kamath meant the same person. Had there been more characters in the book it would certainly have confused me.
…the story is very predictable and nothing is new about it. I do not mind reading clichéd romances but this one was too bland for my liking. Also, I could never connect with either of the main characters. Initially, I thought I could understand Aman. He a social-recluse and lacks emotional quotient which is why he has no friends and when Kiara is nice to him it is very natural for him to fall for her. But as the story progressed I felt no connection with him at all. At no point did I feel Aman’s pain at losing out on love. In fact, I never even saw him fall in love with Kiara. This is the writers’ shortcoming as I was never privy to Aman’s feelings for her. Just a few random lines about him stealing a glance at her lovely face did not convince me of his love. As a reader, I want to know more of what he feels for Kiara to be convinced of his heartbreak. When Aman suffers a heartbreak, his rose coloured glasses shatter and he performs badly in his exams. I literally rolled my eyes when Aman wrote about his poor academic performance following his ‘break-up’. I find it difficult to believe that a studious guy who aces all his exams scores less after being left heartbroken by a girl who is not even his girlfriend. I could not understand why he was so deeply impacted by the failure of his one-sided affair.
…I did not like the poems at all. Now this point can be too subjective as I am not a poem lover and cannot appreciate the beauty of poems. Though I do read poems occasionally only a few of them strike a chord with me. I tried reading the poems in this book but was majorly disappointed with it.
Final View: If you like traditional and clichéd college love stories and are looking for a quick read then you will like Letters in the Rain. Also, if you enjoying reading poems conveying heartbreaks then do pick this book as Aman’s pieces of heart are joined together by his poems for the one girl he ever loved.
Review-
Anubhav Shrivastava and Ananya Roy's " Letters in the Rain" is an Amazing co-authored work. It is an second novel by Anubhav Shrivastava. His first novel "One Last Time" was absolutely brilliant and fantastic. Emotions in this book are really heart touching. while reading this book you may feel that author has amazing storytelling skills. story leads with three main characters named Aman, Kiara, and Girish. The poems and letters throughout the book makes it interesting. Story was quite predictable and one could easily guess it because it was just as same as any other Indian novel where protagonist go to college, fell in love with the girl but the girl loves someone else.
Now lets go to the plot of the story ,Aman Malhotra is a introverted sociophobic soul happy in his own world. Remarkable at studies, never fails to hold the top position in his class and make his parents proud of him. His parents are from North and South India. His parents are worried for him about his growth in terms of a better person who stands tall in the society.
Somehow he couldn't crack IIT and in the end went Manipal University with 100% scholarship . somewhere he collide with Kiara Mehta. Someone totally reversed to Aman in entire aspects. She is a full of life, jolly, fun loving girl, who enjoys music and life to the fullest, but neglected her studies. A day desire to be felicitous. They became agreeable friends. Time slips away and a while Aman in progress to like her, their journey of friendship takes an unexpected turn Kiara selects Girish as her soul mate. Girish, the editor of Manipal Writers Mania. The new arrival made the bond brittle between both of them. What will happen next in the story ? will Aman get his love back or did kiara gets married with Girish ? How Aman makes all wrong right ? will Aman and kiara's bond become strong again ?
Well, there are so many twists and turn yet to uncover, so just go and grab the book and enjoy this beautiful tale.
Language and Narration- Language of the book is lucid, simple yet impressive. Narration is decent and together with pace, story flow is effortless. This book has the poetic touch that Aman's letter had in them which I liked the most.
Book Cover and Title-
The cover of the book is so beautiful and catchy,Still I feel it could have been better. The title " Letters in the Rain" is interesting and touchy which completely justifies the story.
