This is a cute book told from a daughter's point of view about what her mom does all day and what they do together. The illustrations are great, but I don't really like the way the book keeps comparing the narrator's mom to "perfect moms." Things like "Perfect moms sit on the bench at the park, but my mom comes on the merry-go-round with me" make it sound like some moms are better than other. The grandpa book in this series is great because it just focuses on why the narrator's grandpa is so great. I'd like this one better if it just focused on the narrator and her relationship with her mom, and not comparing the mom to other moms. I love that the back of the book has activities to further engage your child, like matching the mom animal to the right baby animal and a space to draw a picture for your mom.
This review will be virtually the same as my review for the similar book 'Hooray for Daddy'; this is a really nice book which celebrates the bonds that children have with their mothers. It is narrated by a young girl who talks about all the lovely things she does with her dad and the memories they share. It celebrates the fact that every parent or mother is different, and the things that every child does with their own mother will be different to that which other children experience. There are lots of things to explore on each page in terms of imagery, so it'll be a nice exciting read each time, with something new to discover! The story ends very sweetly with the young boy aspiring to be just like his dad when he grows up. Unfortunately not a 5*, as some of the text was difficult to read on the coloured backgrounds.
http://kachildrensbookreviews.blogspo... We received this book via NetGalley to give an honest review. Really enjoyed the enjoyed the games A and I could play together at the end! Really brings out the imagination with your child. Illustrations, greatly done and I loved how they captured what was going on in the book.
What bothered me about this book and why I had to give it 3 stars are because of the following.
1. The writing was a bit too small, trying to read it on my kindle I had to have the device really close to my face. Maybe make the words a bit bigger.
2. "Perfect moms have perfect little girls." This bothers me because no one and I mean NO ONE is perfect. I think this could have been worded a bit better. Along with that sentence, the next page says perfect moms sit on the bench and mine goes on the merry-go-round. Us moms bring our children to the playground to play with other kids if us moms want to sit on the bench to watch you play it is not us being perfect.
3. This sentence "You can touch my mom whenever you want and she never breaks".....this part just sounds weird to me. Maybe revise it.
Overall it was an okay book that A and I did like to read and we both noticed that the little girl not only loves her mom but enjoys spending time with her.
This has some engaging illustrations and some fun activities in the back.
I feel like this has been written by a mother to her child, celebrating her own motherhood. The girl narrator in this story really appreciates her mother and sees everything her mother does in a very positive light, even while she recognizes her mother isn’t perfect. The mother in this story is a working mom who wears shiny kids clothes, hates umbrellas, forgets what she’s supposed to be shopping for, loves dressing up, sometimes runs late and has lots of time for her daughter. Her daughter thinks she’s amazing and essentially pays tribute to her throughout. It feels kind of odd to read this to my daughter because I am a different kind of mother.
Thanks to Netgalley for letting me read this. All thoughts are my own.
Same as the Hooray for daddy, but with a mom, a bit less original because of the mother/daughter relation that we have seen often, but still a good, cute, and pretty children book!
This is a cute sort of book, about a little girl bragging about her mommy. I like that it emphasizes that her mother isn't perfect, and she does things that most mommies won't or don't do.
The pictures are bright and fun, and there is a lot of things going on in them, as evidence below. The description of what her mother does at the office, is silly, and how they shop sounds a bit on the expensive side. (They don't make a list and wing it.)
Thanks to Netgalley for making this book available for an honest review.
What's better than hanging out with your friends? Why hanging out with your mommy right?
This delightful tale is told through the eyes of a little girl who has a very strong bond of love for her amazing mommy. She is excited to share her feelings to her readers.
Her mommy, although not perfect, spends quality time with her daughter and they have such fun adventures together. Even though both have busy days they find time to shop for clothes and groceries, play dress-up, relax and read their favourite book, enjoy the rain showers sans an umbrella, muck around in mommy's makeup, play games at the park and enjoy creative activities such as painting together, just to name a few.
The book is a celebration of their time spent together. The little girl is aware of her mother's imperfections and laying those aside she still desires to be a mommy-clone when she grows up. Now that's quite a compliment isn't it?
Having had a wonderful relationship with my own mom I could certainly agree with the little girl. Mom's everywhere should be held up in very high esteem and emulated as the torch of motherhood is passed on.
The illustrations are vibrant, colourful, full of action and emotion. They are kid-friendly and enrich the text greatly. The author has added an interactive section at the end of the book that kids will love.
Part of the "Hooray for Family" series, this book was originally published in Italy. Featuring charming insights about Mommies, Daddies, Grandmas and Grandpas, each of the "Hooray for Family" books celebrates families in a delightful way. Highly recommended for very young readers by Storywraps.
This story is told from a little girl perspective. And she has this strange idea of what a perfect mother should be: "Their nails are painted, they wear make-up, and their hair is dyed. They look lovely. But they are like my friend Elisa’s dolls: if you touch them, they might break". "Perfect moms have perfect little girls". "Perfect moms sit on the benches in the park". This little girl's mother is just the opposite of this preconceived idea of what mother should be like. And that's what she loves about her mom. Her mother is fun and playful, likes to wear shiny clothes, walk in the rain and play with her in the park, She also likes to play dress up, go shopping for clothes or just sit with her little girl reading in silence... She's sometimes disorganized: forgets shopping lists and then groceries or wakes up late for work and take her little girl to school and they have to rush. And for this little girl, that's why her mother is perfect and she would like to be like her. This family seems to have only a single working mother and a small daughter. There is no mention of a father or siblings: "My mommy has me and I have her, and we are happy with the way we are". The illustrations are full-page, colorful and fun. There are children's activities in the end. The mother in this book seems the portrait of a particular person, not mothers in general. Not perfect, as all others. I think I'm a pretty different kind of mom, so I don't think that nor me nor my kids will relate to this story.
I received this book as an ARC from the publisher and NetGalley in exchange for my honest review.
The little girl wonders what her mom does while she (kid) is at school, picturing her (mom) doing things she (kid) would do, like watch fish or getting ice cream. In reality she has a corporate-looking job, though she’s certainly no conventional mother, which looks like the point of the story: don’t be afraid to be different. In fact, the book starts out saying that some moms are perfect, though it’s not meant as a compliment. Nice improv with the pirate hook hand. Activities at the end include dressing up a drawing of yourself, selecting books, making a shopping list, and animal match-ups. 3.5 pushed up to 4/5
I received a free copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
I loved Hooray for Grandma and this books just didn't give me the same warm feelings. The illustrations are in a different style, which is not bad, but not as fun like the ones with the Grandma.
I did enjoy the mother-daughter relationship, but it didn't feel special because the author was trying too hard to make it special and different than other mother-daughter relationships, while I think we should teach little kids that every relationship is special in its way.
But the series is lovely, even if the book with Grandma is still my favourite.
This was a really sweet book. A little girl is telling the reader why her mom is perfect. She is not the kind of mom who is all made up and you can't touch. She’s a silly mom. She can play dress up, likes walking in the rain, and runs around like crazy when it’s time to go to work and school. The illustrations are nice and fit the story well. Use them as the cover instead of the illustration inside a giant Pink present. The shape has no real synchronization with the story and makes it hard to pick up and read.
A big thank you to NetGalley and Xist Publishing for the ARC. I am voluntarily reviewing this book. This is a cute fun story. Reminds us all that no one is perfect and that is ok. Enjoyed it.
Moms aren’t perfect, and kids understand! Both generations will appreciate this picture book. The bonus section is the back with activities was a nice surprise!
