Suzie and Mary are excited to welcome a birdwatching group to Dune House, the majestic bed and breakfast on the beach. The guests are a colorful bunch and some of them have some unusual requests. They are hoping to sight a rare bird in the area. But tensions rise and tempers flare when they don’t see eye to eye with some surfers camping on the beach.
Then things go from bad to worse when someone lands up dead. With the suspect list getting longer, the police have their work cut out to find the murderer. Suzie and Mary, with a little help from their loveable Labrador, do some snooping to try and help the investigation along.
Will they uncover the truth before the killer strikes again?
Tides, Trails and Trouble is the twelfth book in Dune House Cozy Mystery series by Cindy Bell. Suzie and Mary run a Bed and Breakfast in a small coastal town where they are hosting a bird watching group that hopes to see a rare bird. Conflict emerges when a member of a surfing group camping along the beach scares the bird off. The next day Suzie stumbles upon the body of the surfer, Ken, lying face down on the sand with a broken neck. Jason is the lead investigator, questioning the surfers and birdwatchers making both groups unhappy. Will Jason, Suzie and Mary manage to find the killer and determine what happened? What are the guests up to? Is the murder related to a previous encounter? Can the sleuths uncover the facts before they become targets? Part of the plot involves their lovable Labrador. I love the way the plot is constructed with odd personalities, murder, mystery, romance and a dog. I want to read more of Cindy Bell's books. This is a great series, funny, witty and well written. The story keeps you thinking "who did it " all the way through. This light mystery will keep you guessing. Another great that happens in Dune House. Great read!

Suzie and Mary are eagerly awaiting birdwatching group to come to their bed and breakfast. The group arrives and even though everyone seems nice and happy to be there, there is the strange feeling that surrounds these people. Birdwatchers manage to see the rare bird they are looking for but at the same time Ken, member of surfer group which sat camp on the beach near the Dune House, scares the bird off. Emotions flare, shouting starts, heavy words are exchanged but situation is diffused and everyone goes on their merry way. Next day, as Suzie and Paul are walking in the woods, Suzie stumbles upon something which turns out to be a body of the surfer Ken, and he is laying face down with a broken neck.
Jason is leading the investigation, questioning both surfers and birdwatches who are not at all sympathetic to killed Ken, and are not happy at all that their holiday is usurped. Will Jason together with Suzie and Mary manage to find out the killer and what actually happened?
Characters are well portrayed, you can easily see them in your mind and you can also feel the tension and secrets among these people and their hostility towards surfers.
Setting for the story is so well described that you can just hear the waves crashing and feel the sands under your feet.
It is a well written story with an interesting plot and believable characters.
This is a 5 stars and then some. This was worth the wait, Suzie and Mary are hosting a group of Bird Watchers, there are about 5 members. And then were a big group of surfers camping on the beach, directed by Noel, he teaches surfing and other things about surfing and camping around different beaches across the country. Now we all know there has to be one JERK in every group and there sure was in the bird watching and the surfers, that clashed and had to be separated. Suzie and Mary had a bit of a mess on their hands after that. Then there was a person who disappeared and a dog, then a dead person, why and how the police and Suzie and Mary had to find out. You will love the details of the story. It will have you sad, angry, confused of who did it and why. There are quite a mix of suspects I didn't sleep much to find out what happened next. YOU WON'T BE DISAPPOINTED!!!!!!!

Suzie and Mary set out to find out who did it. Another great book in the series fun and interesting and a good story line. I love all the characters from Suzie and Mary to their significant others to all the side characters. The descriptions of the scenery are always fantastic.
This is a good series read as well as a stand-a-lone book. Suzy and Mary own a bed and breakfast where this book centers around. A death nearby leads to many guest suspects compelling the owners to take to their intrigue of investigative research. Which of course, their intrigue just happens to land them in a bit of hot water. I enjoyed this book from start to finish and cannot wait for the next.
I am voluntarily reviewing the book, 'Tides, Trails and Trouble' gifted to me by the Author with no obligation.
I just started the book and already Susie has annoyed me. Who gets upset that a man offers to carry his own luggage! He wasn’t telling her what to do! He was being polite. She needs to get off her feminist high horse! The books aren’t that good to be begin with & the way she acts most of the time makes them almost unbearable to read. I decided to be nice & give this series a chance, but after the last couple books I’m finished.
The predictability is getting much less frequent. I'm enjoying trying to figure out whodunit in each case now that it's not so blatantly obvious. I really think that Susie and Mary are a bit too careless and nosey for their own good but I get that that's the entire point of the series, if they just sat back and didn't insert themselves into the situations there wouldn't be a series so it's forgivable.
Dune House was housing a birdwatcher’s club. On a quest to spot a rare bird, the club has a confrontation with a surfer. Soon after, that surfer turns up dead in the woods. Apparently, he fell from a tree, but was it an accident? Police soon confirmed it was murder and the girls of Dune House were on the case. Could one of the birdwatchers have done it? Like always, you easily get caught up in the mystery. A good read!
The characters are great. The murder mystery had a real twist. Thought it was Bert but I thought Bert had a crush on Callie never thinking he was her Dad. I hope there are future books with Susie, Mary, Paul and Wes in them. I have to like the characters to enjoy the books. You never fail. Thank you.
I have read 2 other books by this writer in this series and they are just as good as this one. They make me want to go stay at this bed and breakfast by the sea. The characters are realistic and believable. I really like this series and intend to read them all!
I was absolutely shocked by the time I got to the end of this installment of the Dune House series! I kept going back and forth as to who the killer was, but in the end it was clear. If you're reading this review, I hope you are reading the books in order and I'm sure you will find it as thrilling as I did! Happy reading.
I enjoyed this story of adventure and suspense, the author has done a wonderful job of putting together a cast of characters in this mystery. The story is a great way to spend a night.
Another amazingly awesome story by this author. Even though parts of this story were very worrisome there were just as many fun and happy people enjoying their life. Good reading!!
I've always enjoyed this series. Mary and Susie are such lovely characters. Jason and Summer are exceptionally good people, and Paul and Wes are the best boyfriends. I a lways look forward to the next book.
Very short cozy mystery at the beach. Mary and Suzie open a B&B at the beac. Many murders in this small town with late in life romances solving those many murders. Helps to date a cop or have one as a relative.
Another wonderful adventure for Suzie and Mary. Since I love the beach, this series is the next best thing to being at the beach, especially in the dead of winter.
Suzie, Mary and Pilot make a great team! I just wish there had been one last chapter to tie up a few things. I can’t wait to read the next book in the series!
Just need more interaction with the dog. But a fun book! Good book to take to the beach. I have read all in this series, got better when a dog was added!
Well whoever knew bird-watching could be such a dangerous hobby. Twists and turns, suspects galore in another exciting and wonderful adventure with Dune House again at centre front of it all.
Suzie and Mary are the owners of the gorgeous Dune House, the B&B by the beach which they have completely renovated themselves and made it into the business it is now. This time they are hosting a group of bird watchers who are hoping to spot a rare bird… only a surfer scares this bird away causing the two groups to have a disagreement which leads to the surfer turning up dead! Who would do this? Suzie and Mary love a crime, as we know, and can’t wait to get themselves involved in solving this horrible murder and finding out why someone could do this. As always, Jason and the rest of the Garber police team disapprove of them trying to interfere with the investigation but this never stops the women from conducting their own investigations. This book is another 5 star read for me, just the way it is written keeps me as a reader hooked and on the edge of my seat as the book continues on and they continue and try to solve all the goings on that surround them. It’s a MUST READ!
