In Loving the Brothers, Haynes tackles an important but rarely discussed topic. Although the writing style was not my cup of tea, which affected how much I could enjoy it, I recognise that it is an easy read and accessible to a wide audience, which I think is vital when discussing something like domestic violence. Also loved the descriptions of Jamaica -I was transported back to visiting the Caribbean and my heritage, and am now desperate to visit Montserrat again! If you're intrigued by the synopsis, or know anyone who would really benefit from reading this, I would recommend picking it up.

A thoroughly enjoyable read with women as the story tellers! Through the turmoils of relationships, Haynes skillfully manages to make the reader feel the pains of the characters. I found myself feeling very sad for Charmaine, and full of hatred towards Junior. Even when his mother talked about his past, I did not feel less hard towards him. I enjoyed the experience of "travelling" to Jamaica with them as Haynes' writing about the island is truly picturesque. I could feel the hot air coming out of the plane. The moments of domestic violence acted out by some children were heartbreaking, and that's one of the passages I felt most difficult to read. Haynes does not hide any details and her characters are full of life, with its downfalls and hopes.
The structure of the book is interesting, a chapter per woman. What would it be like to have one whole book per woman? Looking forward to read "Loving the Sisters".

I loved the book, all the way through, until, just before the ending. I did not like the ending. Although there will be a follow up book, it can not make up for the ending of the first book. It felt like the author did not put much thought, into how she would end the book. The individual characters in the book, were very interesting. I liked each of them, flaws and all. I was really into flipping pages, to see what would happen next. The drama was everything.

Good read

The story line is good. The book cover was intriguing. The background descriptions of Jamaica had me as a reader in Jamaica. Domestic violence is a insidious problem in the black community and the courage of two women leaving one family is interesting. Cannot wait for 2

I received this gifted copy from Pamela late August and I kept it to read this month. I went into this book blind - I did not read any reviews.

Loving The Brothers is a story of three women with established lives (partner, children, family and a profession) who all want to leave their husbands. Why? Did I mention that the husbands are all brothers? Yup.

The protagonists, Pattie, Charmaine and Rose live in the UK and are all dealing with issues in their lives - adultery, abuse, loneliness and parenting. They shared with us how they survived daily while loving their family and friends.

I loved the mothers of Patti & Charmaine - Caribbean moms 💜

Pamela, you gave a great story with just enough drama, humor, love and Caribbean flavor and scenes while highlighting serious issues.

What I didn’t expect was the ending; I would have loved a little more around the ending before settling in to patiently wait for Volume Two - Loving The Sisters.

Thank you Pamela.

This was a delightful and engaging read that I could hardly skip a day of reading. I completed it in a weeks time. I enjoyed reading the Jamaican patois, about the culture in the UK and in Jamaica, and the real life experiences that are relatable to women of color around the world. I can't wait for the next book "Loving the Sisters." I hope that it comes to fruition to satisfy my need to see how this all plays out. ~ Lisa A Forrest (Author of Parlon Cafe' | And the Journey Through a Transcendental Love, Parlons Cafe' II | The Burden of Conscience, Who's Toni Rice?)

Excellent read...

This novel is so alive and vivid. I loved that the women are so different yet so similar and very relatable. The book also brings to surface some very relevant conversations about Domestic Abuse, women empowerment and religion. I can’t wait for volume II 🤓

What a great read. I felt invested in all the characters. Enjoyed being transported to Jamaica, almost so that I could feel sun on my face (on a grey cool day in England). I can't wait for the follow up book. A blazing debut novel. Strongly recommend.

Fiction Never felt so Real!

From the first page, I felt glued to the book. It was difficult to put the book down; and when I did I felt anxious to go back to it.

The stories are relatable, and when reading one of the chapters I felt like I knew the character. That’s how familiar to real life this book feels.

The author touches on subjects like domestic violence abuse, child neglect, rape within marriages and the misconception that church people are better than others.

One fell in love with all female characters for different reasons, as they trigged parts of me that, I too am working continuously to heal... and for Marcus, the only brother that seems like a decent human being.

However, as much as his romance with Patti seems like any woman dream. My experience in life makes me question him at times, as all seems too rushed or too soon. And as my mother would say: ‘if it seems to good to be true, it’s because it is!

That is the certainty that the author can have from me, that I will for sure be buying her second book entitled ‘Loving the Sisters’.

Pamela R Haynes, well done on this beautiful writing. You have the talent for sure and I can honestly say that you shouldn’t stop just on writing books. You definitely have a place as a script writer for big movies, or Amazon and Netflix movies and series. I can see you there, hopefully you too.

Now the big question: when is ‘Loving the Sisters’ coming out?

We want to send a big thank you to Pamela R. Haynes (@lovingthebrothersauthor) for sending us a copy of her book Loving The Brothers!
This is a perfect bookclub read! The subject matter is one that begs to be discussed.
We get to know Patti, Charmaine and Rose. Each one is involved with one of three brothers. Patti just met Marcus and is enjoying a fairytale romance while Charmaine and Rose are deep in the throws of abusive relationships with their husbands, Manley and Junior. All come together in Jamaica for the brother’s father’s funeral where it is increasingly difficult to hide the abuse.
I absolutely fell in love with the female characters in this book. The book alternates between each woman’s perspective and each of their voices has a unique outlook. I am already looking forward to Volume 2, Loving The Sisters, to see how everything turns out!

Trying to love the Brothers

I enjoyed the storyline except when the author wrote the characters and their jobs. It felt too formulaic. Too much tell and not enough show. The book comes alive when the characters inner worlds are explored. The descriptions of Jamaica were very good I could conjure up memories of the island and the people. I hope the sequel is more relaxed it is a novel after all not a self help book.

Awesome book from start to finish. The storylines are and characters are credible and real. I literally could not put the book down. I needed to know what the next sequence of events were in the following chapter.
So on and so forth.
Highly recommended read.

Fantastically Brilliant

I loved the typical ordinariness depiction, i cannot wait to read the sequel, it reads so real rather than fiction.

This book was not it. The writing was pedestrian. The plot had potential, but...it just didn't work for me.
