Using diet, nutritional supplements, exercise and other lifestyle changes, Dr Whitaker shows how to prevent or manage high blood pressure without recourse to drugs and their unwanted side effects.
I feel like this book was great 20 years ago when it was published, and the information about what causes hypertension (high blood pressure) is still great, but the rest of the information in this book was so outdated it’s now completely irrelevant. It cites studies from the 1980’s and there has been SO MUCH MORE research and drug development since then, that I would definitely NOT recommend this book. I actually threw my copy in the garage (which killed me) because I didn’t want to donate it so somebody got bad information. (I’m a RN)
"Reversing Hypertension" by Dr. Julian Whitaker presents a clear, accessible guide to managing high blood pressure through lifestyle changes, supplements, and diet. The information is straightforward and easy for a non-medical reader to grasp. However, given that the book was published in 2000, some recommendations may be outdated, as medical research has likely evolved over the past two decades. While it still offers valuable foundational advice, readers may want to supplement it with more recent sources.
A very thorough guide to hypertension and its treatment, explaining how hypertension impacts the body and delineating layers of treatement. Includes specific guidance regarding nutrition and supplements, exercise, medication, and alternative therapies. A must read for those with high blood pressure who are interested in making lifestyle changes to address the condition.
