First, the cover. The only church mentioned in this book is in the metropolis of Dallas, Texas, and they go *ONCE*. They do, however, invite the pastor over to drive their Porsche and eat rich people catered food.
Second, Lenora literally BEATS US OVER THE HEAD with the should-have, could-have, regrets and misery of the first failed marriage of her heroine. It's long. It's tedious. It's repetitive. It's not inspirational. Or fun to read.
Third, I hate books in which the author gives the characters so much money that there's not a smidge of reality to be found in the storyline/writing. They have THREE houses: a condo in Corpus Christie, a mega-mansion in Dallas, and a lakeside cottage on the TX/LA border. They have a porsche and a Camaro and a 4x4 pick-up, for gardening purposes (!!!). She hires a decorator and buys an entirely new wardrobe, in addition to paying off all of desceased brother's debts.
Must. Be. NICE. But not something anyone wants to read.
There's not even really any heart-moving romance to be found, here. He's got regrets. She's got guilt. They sleep in separate bedrooms until FORCED not to. They like each other, but need to give each other space. They spend half the damn book fighting over his father, his faith, her fears, etc.
I really wish I'd thrown this at a wall and DNF-ed it. Hindsight is 20/20...?
Wow what a book to have a deep love for someone and they choose someone else not knowing you loved them for a long time and they did you also. Then there is a death. And in the will you are to be to become the wife of the brother it is a must read
This is the first for me in th Ever After love inspired collection by Lenora Worth Once there were two brothers and a young girl that were very close growing up and she loved them both in different ways. Mason the youngest went away to make his fortune and Lily married Daniel when he asked. They had ten years together but no children. She cared for Daniel but just not in a strong way that marriages should be and she felt like she had let him down. She took care of him when he became ill and was devastated when he died. Mason returned and as the will was read it had a very unusal request, using a bible verse in Deuteronomy chapter 25:5 about a brother marrying the widow when his brother died. Daniel wanted Mason and Lily to wed. She had loved Mason but felt guilty about marrying him so soon after becoming a widow. you will enjoy reading the story of Mason and Lily finding out how much they truly care and what happens for them as they learn about one another. A miracle for sure....
I usually love a "marriage of convenience" premise and this story started out great, had me completely immersed until after Lily, and Mason got married, then for me it went a little downhill, Lily's complete acceptance to change where she would live (when initially she said she would never leave), as well as the extravagant lifestyle she seemed to fall into so easily was just too unrealistic to me. What bothered me most, and yes I'm used to the H/h in these Romances to usually keep their feelings for each other hidden until the ending was that with the love that Mason, and Lily obviously had for each other, and certain statements that couldn't be ignored, it didn't make sense in this particular story that those feelings did not come to light much sooner than they did. It was a bit frustrating when it just dragged on. It did have a wonderful Epilogue
