'I don't believe the word love has ever meant the same thing twice.'
Arabella loves the way she makes her see the stars. Alan loves a man he'll never meet again. Tammy loves a woman she's never met. And CAL loves like no human has ever loved before.
Launching from a 17th-century opera house through cislunar space and into the distant future, Callisto tells four stories that have nothing and everything in common.
I got to see this play when it was on at the Arcola Theatre in London and I've been in love with it ever since. Reading the play text just made me wish I could see it again, and I do hope the production returns to the stage again one day. Definitely read the play if you can get your hands on it, it's got everything you could want: 17th century lesbians, Alan Turing, quirky 70s pornstar plot turned thriller-romance, and a futuristic AI-human love story on the moon, all wrapped up in a Cloud Atlas-style format (but so much better, because everyone is gay).
a genuis play, it took my three hours to research the names meaning purely out of absolute intrigue. everytime it read, a different lines makes me cry. i fell in love w every single character and felt w them in every moment.
This is an incredibly clever play. 4 stories are interwoven together beautifully, never letting the viewer feel like they're confused, or not getting enough of a picture for each one. I've seen this one performed, so it was great to be able to go over anything I missed live.
