4 ⭐ Hermione accidentally catches feelings for Draco after their one-night stand

Summary:

After a fun night out with her Muggle friends in London, Hermione wakes up in her apartment next to a very naked Draco Malfoy. There's some morning-after awkwardness, and just before he leaves, Draco kisses her goodbye and says he'll be seeing her.

Completely horrified by the situation, Hermione is determined not to let it happen again. But it seems even the great Hermione Granger has a weakness for a certain fit, blonde, pureblood.


My Thoughts:

For a short story, it's incredibly well written, there's subtle humor, and it addresses prejudice in the Wizarding World.

While it was an enjoyable read, the details of the story are forgettable. A few things contribute to this issue:

1. The story is written entirely from Hermione's POV, and there's not much going on besides her apprehension about constantly sleeping with Draco. There's no real conflict besides whatever is going on inside Hermione's mind. So as far as the plot goes, there really isn't one driving the story.

2. Since it's written in Hermione's POV, we don't really know anything about Draco. We don't get his perspective or any real information about who he is after the war. He's just kind of there. But I want to know what he thinks of their one-night stand. Why did he end up sleeping with her? Why is he spending more time in the Muggle world? How does he view Hermione? What's going on with him and his parents? So many questions that are never answered.

3. The story jumps days and weeks. Doing this disassociated me from the story even more. Sometimes it's the moments in between that make all the difference when showcasing the evolution of a relationship.

These three things combined made me feel like an outsider looking in versus someone who is experiencing the story alongside the character. I'm not sure if that makes sense or not.


But overall, this was an enjoyable story, and I definitely recommend it! If there had been some smut and moments in Draco's POV, I probably would have given this 5-stars.

4.5 * About two people finding each other to face the world together and finding ways for better future
Hmm, I clicked on this fanfic as it was in top5 best rated complete Dramione fanfics and I was curious what the story could offer to receive such good feedback from the fandom. Well, after reading it I understand that this fanfic does deserve all those high-rated reviews (4.5* is really proper rating for this fanfci) and attention, because it was simply written in fabulous way.
What I liked about this fanfic was how the author was able to use and play with situation to create amazing tension and make you crave for reading more and wondering what would happen. I especially liked the first 10 pages which were really perfect. The middle part was amazing but not so amazing enough to keep such strong grip on me. I especially enjoyed Hermione rummaging her brain when she was thinking about how good looking Malfoy is. :D I dont know, it made me feel really good how she described his good features during different occasions. My hormones were going wild during such moments.
I appreciated that Draco wasnt asshole and that he was actually very civil and nice towards Hermione right from the beginning till the end. And the first sign of him being a better man was how he handled the morning when they woke up after the night which they spent together in bed. and when he kissed her and told her to see her again, he was really genuine, he wasnt joking, teasing or keeping a facade, he was really in his feelings and it was bell ringing for me that great things are about to come. And him getting drunk at the bar waiting for her was adorable, although he was sly to use it as his ticket to her apartment, but he didnt become bastard as he told her that he would leave if she didnt want him. Hey, saying something like that cannot be easy and especially for Malfoy.

I liked that Draco was vulnerable and showed his real face, when he was with Hermione. He understood her and was affectionate with her. I really liked how he initiated skinship and how she also initiated certain things. :)

Later that morning, when he’d said that he had to go, he’d leaned over and kissed her on the cheek. There was a look in his eyes that Hermione didn’t know how to interpret, but if she’d been assigned a descriptive essay and given unlimited time, the word ‘vulnerable’ might have made an appearance once or twice.

Her talks with Ginny were quite interesting and help to move the story, but I expected them to be a little bit more amusing, but on the other hand they were not crazy as on teengers level, their talk was on level of adults, although I expected Ginny to give brighter/better advice. in this case it was really good for her to hear thoughts of Andromeda Tonks.

I also liked the turmoil that Hermione was going through, because I could see myself/friend in her worries, she was dealing with worries that almost everybody has to go through - you have to decide how much you will care about opinion of others. She was confused if they were dating, whether she should be selfish and date him although it would cause problems and make other people dislike her, whether she should give a try to their relationship although he might not be the right for her.

Another great point of this story is that it also deals with system issues, prejudice and other shortcoming of society. It is clear in case of Hermione who wants change the world and help the magical creatures, but she is cut by Ministry of Magic and almost kept secluded from others as head of her department that has almost no significance. The ministry keeps her in check also as a muggle-born. Therefore it is so amazing when Draco finds a way how she can get free from this messy workplace and get a chance to change the world.

Oh, and the humor was also great in this fanfic. This paragraph had me rolling on the floor. XD
‘I have your son and heir. Free your house-elves, ban the Werewolf Registry and bring me an international treatise to improve magical creatures’ rights, and he’ll be returned to you unharmed.’

My favourite lines:
“When are you going to stop hiding?”
“When are you going to quit your job?”

I just wish we would get to see a little bit more after she realized that they were dating. I also hoped to get to know more about what they talked during the night when then run into each other in the club.

3 STARS—I LIKED IT

Sweet.

Hermione is out with muggle primary school friends at a Soho club when she sees Draco, flail-dancing like a fool. Her friends, none the wiser, basically push her in the "hot guy's" direction, and since she and Malfoy aren't allowed to violate the Magic Secrecy Act, they're forced to talk about other things and accidentally really enjoy themselves. That night they fall into bed, drunk, and Hermione takes Draco's virginity. She's shocked at herself for sleeping with him, but then it keeps happening. After a bit, at brunch she confesses what's been happening to Ginny, who's grossed out but gleeful and promises to keep mum. The hook-ups continue, and one night at a major gala the Malfoys are also attending Draco finds the nerve to ask her to dance. She's very uncomfortable but says yes, and she can see everyone around them simply agog. Indeed, they even make the front page of the Prophet. She continues to confess to Ginny how weird their situationship is, and Ginny is getting sick of Hermione's dithering; it's clear to her that Feelings are developing. one day Hermione goes to see Andromeda Black for tea, and Andromeda mentions that Draco had told her he'd been seeing Hermione. Andromeda obliquely advises that h=Hermione leave room for the unexpected in her love life, recalling how she left her conservative blood-supremacist family for the muggle-born love of her life and never regretted it. Soon after, Hermione is once again at brunch with Ginny, who's had it up to here with blather about Malfoy but no action, when who walks by the brunch place but the man himself. Ginny is saucy and rude and drops raunchy innuendo before peacing out so they can speak alone. Hermione finally gets the courage up to ask if they're actually dating, and Malfoy, smiling, says of course they are, they have been for a while, and it certainly took her long enough to figure it out. Hermione smiles and holds his hands across the table. Then he begins to plot out her professional future: he'll be the decorative lay-about type at home, and she'll quit her dead-end job at the ministry for a position at the DMLE, where she'll change the regulations that perpetuate nepotism and corruption and keep her reform bills from going anywhere. Hermione smiles, liking the look of her burgeoning future.

It's a sweet story and sort of a long-form version of the author's elevator-getting-stuck story: Hermione and Draco accidentally drunkenly hook up, it accidentally creates a bond, and he drunkenly makes his interest known. I'd say this was lovely but not transcendent—solid but nothing i'd sky-write about.

i was so excited to read this because riptey beta'ed this and being a huge ass riptey fangirl I squealed at the opportunity to read something that they had read written by their friend.
well turns out I had read this before and I remember enjoying it. loved the skim/re-read as well. so funny and cute and swoony, everything is the perfect amount for a one-shot. Loved the part with Andromeda and her looking like too many of Hermione's ghosts.

If this has been longer I would have liked it more. If it had more interaction between the two of them. It was all glazed over and dialogue barely existed between them - just between Hermione and the Weasleys. Sigh. I was excited for this one.

This was a decent one-shot. The premise of Hermione being in a relationship without realizing she’s in a relationship was very reminiscent of “Once More, With Feeling”. Nice story but fairly short so you don’t really connect with the characters. Giving it 3 stars.
