KINGDOMS are at war and young wizards Eynon and Merry are thrust into a complex web of conflicts, conspiracies and long-hidden secrets as they learn more about the true threats facing Dâron, including an invasion by five hundred dragonships from the northern kingdom of Bifurland.
On the Bifurlanders’ flagship, Eynon demonstrates his magic for their king.
What would you like to see?” asked Eynon.
Something big and showy,” said King Bjarni’s young daughter Sigrun.
It will have to be a fireball, thought Eynon.
He twirled his staff a few times, trying to look impressive, then realized he’d need a lot more practice before he could. Eynon held up his staff and concentrated, calling on his red magestone for power and his blue magestone for control before releasing a concentrated blast of energy skyward.
Seconds later, everyone was tossed to the deck by a tremendous explosion overhead. Concentric rings of blue fire surrounded a glowing red ball. A massive boom like the loudest peal of thunder ever heard assaulted their ears. Waves of heat beat down, almost setting the ship‘s sails alight.

Really 4.5, because of a slightly confusing cast of characters. This is a rousing second chapter in the adventures of young wizards Merry and Eyron, as they pull out all the stops to keep the good guys in power. Great fun.
A Google second book in the series. Flows well answered some questions from the first in the series. Characters are still well thought out and interesting. Things may seem to work out for the good guys a little too well but I will read the next installment.
Good story line but way too many POV characters. Plus it was unbelievable that both MC were so relaxed with their mentors after 2 days of being their apprentice and so good at magic after a few days. Yeah, right. The relationships between some characters were instantaneous as if they were friends for years. Totally lacking in reality. There was also so much unnecessary info shoved into the book that actually took away from it being an enjoyable read. For instance, the Tamloch King being in love with his brother. WTF! Why did we care or even want to hear such crap? What did that actually bring to the story? There were a lot of good things about this series but just as many that were total downers. Haven't decided to read the next book or not and unsure if I would recommend. Hmm, probably not.
This book, along with its predecessor, are fantastic stories. The main characters, many of them wizards, express all the joy, growth and complex rapport that a reader could wish for, given a brilliant and ever-twisting plotline. Hats off to the author, who clearly knows how to develop plot and characters that can win both hearts and minds. Read this series!!!!
I have really enjoyed the two books in this series so far. Lots of political and wizardry intrigue. Plenty of great characters also. The only thing that really irks me is even though the story line ends for each book, at the very last chapter there is a cliff hanger to make sure you read the next book. And so I'm off to read book 3.
If you like series where teenagers are equivalent of the most powerful people on the planet with a week of training this book is for you. Also, everything is solved by some last minute miracle...every single time. So many things are never explained or reasoned out.
I felt like I was reading about background characters from a favorite story. They seemed so familiar yet it was clearly a new world and story. Loved it!!
another great hit! this story keeps pulling you in. it is refreshing, uncomplicated, and fun. the characters are both endearing and realistic. I really enjoy that you can ride along with the story and that the author doesn't pull some weird or yet unknowable bit of lore to try and trick you. I look forward to the next in the series! well worth the read and all the hype!
If you are a Harry Potter fan this is a good read. It’s starts out a little slow but picks up as you go. I love Enan and Mary’s story. The book does end in a cliffhanger, so it’s a good thing the next book is out.
