Cat Cafe #2

Christmas at the Cat Café

Rate this book
"Christmas at the Cat Cafe is the wonderfully festive sequel to Melissa Daley's uplifting tale, Molly and the Cat Cafe.

The Costwolds' town of Stourton-on-the-Hill has its very own cat cafe. Resident cat Molly, and her kittens, live here in feline paradise, while owner Debbie serves the locals home-made goodies. But even in the most idyllic surroundings, things don't always go to plan . . .

When Debbie's heartbroken sister Linda arrives at the cafe, Debbie insists she move in. But Linda is not alone, and the cats are devastated with the arrival of Linda's dog, Beau. Sadly, Beau's arrival is not the only bombshell - now Molly's home is also under threat when a rival cat moves in on her turf.

With Christmas approaching, Molly is unsettled, barely roused by the promise of tinsel to play with. Fearing for her feline family she hopelessly stares out of the cafe window searching for an answer. Only a Christmas miracle could bring everyone together . . ."

Christmas at the Cat Cafe by Melissa Daley is the second book in the contemporary Cat Cafe series. When I first noticed this series I thought maybe they were a cozy mystery or romance type of read but what we actually have is the story told from the point of view of Molly the cat and it's actually a lot of fun to read.

In the first book Molly had been a very spoiled feline living with her elderly owner and the two being inseparable. Unfortunately for both Molly and her owner as time passed her owner began having issues with her memory and her son decided it was time to move her into a care facility. The son was not a fan of Molly and re-homed her into a place with some big scary dogs in which Molly made the decision to set out to find a new wonderful owner of her own leading her to the doorstep of Debbie.

Debbie had been having issues with her business and with some inspiration from Molly the cafe was turned into Molly's Cat Cafe. Things had been well with Molly and Debbie and Molly even had kittens of her own but now Debbie's sister Linda has moved in with not only a dog in the midst but another cat Molly doesn't quite like causing havoc for the holidays.

These books are so cute to read coming from the point of view of a cat, you not only have animals issues to but you do get the conversations and happenings of the humans around Molly which brings in drama and intrigue there for a engaging contemporary tale. The book is one that may bring tears and certainly some laughs along the way too with cat lovers nodding along to some antics. The story is one that may bring tears and certainly some laughs along the way too with cat lovers nodding along to some antics, definitely recommend the series.

Truly, this is just a warm book hug. A cool breeze interrupts the dazzling sunshine as Molly sits under the shade of an elm tree, watching tourists and shoppers rush by in the town square. She has lived here for two years and is comforted to know she now has a home to call her own.

Autumn drifts into Winter, and the snowflakes begin to gently drift to earth. The weather gets even cooler, and life starts its own twists and turns in the lead up to Christmas.

Told from the perspective of Molly, we see the comings and goings of “Molly’s Cat Café" (yes, it was named after her). A Mum of five, Molly’s contentment is challenged as she watches those she loves be drawn into misunderstandings and jealousies, as tempers start to fray (as they tend to at this time of year).

Molly is a cat, and our narrator. It was with delight when I started re-reading this book that I remembered this lovely quirk. It’s charming to get a view of the world from the eyes of a feline friend. Her thoughts, observations and concerns, as she can only sit back and hope that things will work out for the best.

This was a wonderful re-read for me, as I distinctly remember chatting with Mum about it (both of us being more than a bit biased towards cats). This is a delightful, light read in the leadup to the big day. Such a lovely revisit, I was utterly charmed again.

And the cat illustrations at the start of each chapter add to the cute factor. I tried to find in the book who drew them and was unable to find any details. So I assume they were done by the Author.

” Everywhere I looked, lights twinkled and glowed. The tree was enrobed in tiny berry-like bulbs that blinked mesmerizingly. A string of white lights wove its way across the mantlepiece, and a wreath of flashing stars framed the serving counter. In the sem-darkness the kittens’ and Ming’s eyes flashed a luminous green, and I had to look twice to be sure which were cats’ eyes and which fairy lights.”

Merry Xmas everyone! ᓚᘏᗢ

A cat cafe? A family of cats? I’m there. Being the cat lover that I am, I couldn’t refuse the opportunity to read and review this one. This is the second book in the Cat Cafe series. Even though I haven’t read the first one, I totally enjoyed this book. The author gives readers all the background information needed throughout this book, but I do intend to read the first one.

The book is told from the cat’s point of view. I will just get this out there from the start - it is not a paranormal or magical book. The cats do not speak to humans and they do not have magical powers. The readers get an insight into what the cats are thinking and how they interpret the human’s actions.

The cafe is called Molly’s Cat Cafe. Molly is the main cat and she lives in the cafe with her kittens. Her boyfriend, Jaspar, shows up at meal times. Oh there are humans involved, too. Debbie owns the cafe and lives above it with her college-aged daughter. Everything is perfect, until the arrival of Debbie’s sister Linda.

Linda’s marriage has fallen apart and she moves in with Debbie. Did I mention that Linda has a dog named Beau? The cats are not pleased with this turn of events. For that matter, neither is Debbie. Not only is there a dog in their midst, but Linda has decided to use her marketing skills to change things around the cat cafe. Molly is particularly fearful for the future of her family.

This is a full-length, delightful story of family, greed, companionship and love. It’s all rolled into one beautifully told tale. It’s perfect for the holiday season. It’s very touching and had me in tears by the end - the good kind of tears. It’s an uplifting book that left me feeling happy and satisfied.

Melissa Daley is a new-to-me author, but I will definitely be looking for more books by her. I truly loved her writing style. If I could, I would give this one more than five stars.

I would like to thank Helen at TBC and the author for giving me the opportunity to read this which I voluntarily reviewed.
This was such a change from my usual diet of murder and mayhem.
I thoroughly enjoyed the story of Molly the cat, her kittens and the humans in her life.
I love cats and thought a cat cafe was a lovely idea, not realising that they actually existed!
My granddaughters also love cats so I bought them both this book. They were so enthralled that they immediately bought book 1 and told me to tell them when the next book is published.
A really feel good novel that is guaranteed to make you smile.

Hmm.

Christmas at the Cat Cafe is book two of the Cat Cafe series by Melissa Daley. Molly the Cat and her feline friends were living in paradise at Stourton-on-the-Hill Cat Cafe with the owner Debbie who provided the community with beautiful treats. However, her haven was threated when Debbie's sister Linda came to stay with her dog, Beau. The readers of Christmas at the Cat Cafe will continue to follow Molly to see what happens to her and her friends.

I enjoyed reading Christmas at the Cat Cafe. I like the way; Melissa Daley wrote Christmas at the Cat Cafe through the eyes of Molly the cat. Christmas at the Cat Cafe is well written, and research by Melissa Daley and is the first book I read by her. At times reading Christmas at the Cat Cafe made me laugh with what the characters get up to throughout the book.

The readers of Christmas at the Cat Cafe will learn about the importance of having animals in your life. Also, the readers of Christmas at the Cat Cafe will see how money can destroy friends and family because of greed.

I recommend this book.

Another heartwarming episode in the life of the Cat Cafe in the Cotswolds. Like the first book, Molly and the Cat Cafe, the story is told via the delightful voice of Molly the cat, who has just the right amount of superciliousness and superiority in her manner as that of all our feline friends.

It is a lovely and humorous little tale with a message for us all. There is darkness amongst the Christmas cheer and celebrations, as it covers such subjects as estrangement, homelessness, misunderstandings and greed. However, as with all such touching and heartfelt stories, the ending is quite upbeat and is left on a note of optimism.

A gentle and captivating read, perfect for the festive season and for cat lovers everywhere! Hopefully, there will be a further book as I love reading about Molly's adventures.

Many thanks to TBC on Facebook for giving me the opportunity to read and review this book.

A must for all cat lovers out there. A beautiful story told by Molly (a cat). It took me a few chapters to get into as I had never read a book before where the story is told by a cat. However the story was well written and kept the reader absorbed in the story and the lives of Molly and the characters around the cafe. Beautiful and I'll never be able to look at a cat in the same way again.

Christmas at the Cat Cafe by Melissa Daley was a sweet story set in the Cotswolds. Molly, a cat, and her kittens live at Debbie's Cat Cafe in the small town of Stourton-on-the-Hill. Molly is of the opinion that life is perfect but there are some trials ahead for Molly, her kittens and Debbie as Christmas approaches.
A smoothly paced plot with a unique viewpoint, Molly's, and likable characters that welcome you into their lives as you read. A lovely afternoon read that reminded me of what Christmas and family are all about.

Like I said to the first book, cute but not anything too special. Not a lot of Christmas feels for me and I want that from a Christmas book

I like the characters but I didn’t really like how the cats felt so human in their feelings and reactions to things

Van A.W.

Lieve leesgroet, Elsa.

This was a little disappointing. I bought it thinking it would be like a Hallmark Christmas movie and it definitely wasn't. It wasn't even Christmas season until more than halfway through the book.
The story was told through the POV of Molly the cat, which was weird. I found Molly and most of the human characters very unlikable. Their actions were mostly selfish and stupid. I also hated that the cats roamed around outside, on a busy street. I know in England letting cats out is more the norm, but I still don't like it.
Once the book finally got to Christmas, it was better, and I did like the happy ending.

Christmas at The Cat Cafe. By Melissa Daley

This is the second in a series, but it does not matter so much in this instance as the story is cleverly woven to intimate at all the pertinent back story so as to enable this to stand alone as a beautiful Christmas tale.

The continuing story of Molly the cat who is the inspiration for a cat cafe where the feline personalities are just as important as the flavour of the coffee or delicious sweets available behind the counter.

Molly and her brood are to all intents and purposes settled at the Cafe, humans and cats are in a gentle synchronicity until Debbie and Sophie's comfortable bubble is burst in one foul swoop by interfering sister Linda and her (gasp!) hyperactive dog.

On the surface this would be a humourous story about cats versus humans or cat versus Dog, but do not be fooled by the beautiful kitten on the truly delightful cover, this story has claws too.

It is much more complex and layered, this is a story about family, about abandonment issues, about prioritising love over loyalty and about not judging a person's character or motivations before seeking to hear them express them and the cleverest thing is it is all presented through the eyes of a group of cats and kittens.

The book is a lovely Christmas read, but it is not all fluffy tinsel and cocoa, it is dark in places, sad and realistic, but it is hopeful and joyous at it's end which is all one can ask for from Santa himself and prompts me to find out about Molly's origin story in Melissa's previous book too.

I voluntarily wrote this review for TBC and the publishers.
This is the second book in the Story of Molly the Cat and her kittens - oh and dont forget her family Debbie, her owner and Sophie her daughter.
Set in Stourton in a cat cafe we are introduced to Linda - Debbie's sister - who comes with a lot of baggage - including a dog!!! When it seems things cant get much worse for Molly the cat, along comes Ming - a siamese cat who is making herself at home in the cat cafe.
Melissa Daley has a brilliant way of telling a story from the animals point of few - you cannot help but love Molly and her brood. The human characters are also very likeable and you want to find out more about them.
The story is lovely and heart warming and is about growing up, love and letting go. I do wish it had been a bit more "christmassy" though - non the less a lovelt tale and i am sure there will be many more Molly the cat books!

I liked this book and I liked the way it was told from the cat's POV -but in a way, I also didn't like this book because it just seemed so depressing to me. Lost cats, lost husbands etc.

I admit that I AM a big girl and know that kittens leave their mother's and leave the nest (so to speak) but I am also the type of cat lover that doesn't allow her cats out in the world. So I was torn by this book.

The POV was refreshing but I found myself wanting to yell at the cat to 'talk to her owner'.

The romance in this book is sweet and subtle and there is no swearing.

This is a very sweet addition to the Cat Cafe series. I have been saving this one to read at Christmas, and I'm so glad I did.

This one picks up where the last one left off, following Molly, Debbie, Sophie and everyone at the cat cafe. In this one Debbie's sister Linda comes to stay, and brings a lot of upheaval to the cafe.

I love that we see the life of the humans through a cat's eyes. Molly is observant but often gets the wrong idea about what is going on, as she is quite insecure about her place there.

Overall, this was a lovely story, and I'm glad I read it. Don't expect too much from this, but you may be pleasantly surprised, especially if you like cats.

If I could give 4.5 ☆ I would.
This is an unusual story and well written, a cat called Molly is the main character with her kittens and their father and then their owner Debbie who runs the cat cafe where they all live.
At first I wondered how this story would work but I have to say it was a pleasure to read. Molly's story is lovely and I'm sure many of us can relate to some of the issues she went through. I think this story carries many messages we could all learn from.
I received this book from TBConFB for my honest review.

A lovely touching story of Molly which has multiple layers with relationships, affection, adolescence, misjudging people (and cats) and loss. What appears a rather simple book actually has more depth than meets the eye.

The author has an easy writing style that draws you in -- I particularly liked the personification of the cats which was done without losing the essence of what it is to be a cat!

Princess Fuzzypants here: This is a novel, written in the first purrson, by Molly, the namesake of the Cat Cafe. Life is pretty good for her and her four kittens and their dad who divides his life between being outside and inside. The cat cafe is successful, a warm and welcoming place until the arrival of an uninvited and unexpected visitor: the sister of Molly’s human, Debbie. Debbie is a good hearted person who cannot say no. So when Linda and her yappy dog Beau descend and take over, the calm home is thrown into constant turmoil.
Things go from bad to worse when Linda inserts a Siamese cat named Ming into the mix and then decides that Ming should be the focus of the entire cafe. Ming seemingly wants nothing to do with the moggies who inhabit the cafe which sets off a series of unfortunate events that put the safety and happiness of all at risk.
Molly is a very sweet kitty but she is wrong. She thinks she is the cause of all the disturbances. Naturally, any cat would know it is never the fault of the cat. The humans are always at fault, This is no exception. Linda’s attempt to bulldoze Debbie and the resentments, both human and feline, of the incursions, is bad enough. When Molly’s former human bequeaths her estate to Molly, things get super complicated. It is enough to try the patience of the most forgiving kitty.
Molly and Jasper, her mate, and their kittens are all delightful. Their story is told in an entertaining way with just enough suspense. I know if this was a real spot the next time my parents visited the Cotswolds, Momma would haunt the place. She, and you, will have to be satisfied with a literary visit.
I give it five purrs and two paws up.

Join Molly, Jasper and the rest of the feline gang who tell their stories from their cat point of view as they observe the doings at the Cat Cafe owned by Debbie. Author Melissa Daley's writing has captured the charm of cat ownership, and how cats view the world. The cat illustrations used throughout the book are the icing on the cake, or perhaps you could write Devonshire cream topping your scone.

The Christmas at the Cat Cafe book would make a perfect Christmas gift for any cat lover.

Highly recommend.
