I don't get this book at all. It's fiction, but it's written as if it's nonfiction. Very confusing for the intended audience. I'm also bothered by the fact that it's made for early elementary children, when the movie is not age-appropriate. I know plenty of people let their kids watch stuff like this, but I don't think book publishers need to target young kids with PG-13-based material. My copy even has a disclaimer on the copyright page:

"A Note to Parent: This book is appropriate for ages 8 and up. Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom is rated PG-13. Consult filmratings.com for further information."

The way the book is written, however, it's pretty clear the reader is expected to be familiar with the film...

Also, considering this is a beginning reader book, it seems like a pretty big oversight that NONE of the dinosaur names have pronunciation guides. Kids may know the names if they've watched the movie or recognize the dinosaurs by the pictures. But the text does nothing to help them actually sound them out.

Well constructed, high-appeal reader, but having nonfiction facts loosely (and rather poorly) framed in the fictional movie is confusing. My 7 y.o. asked "how do they know that baby triceratops like to be scratched behind their neck frills?" and I had to do a lot of explaining. I also, on principle, HATE WITH A PASSION when there are movie tie-in books and toys for kids who are way too young to see the actual movie.

My daughter can’t get enough dinosaurs in her life. This little book not only helps her with her reading, brings in some of her favorite movies, but it also teaches about dinosaurs. Well it teaches those of us that don’t have as much knowledge as my daughter does about them. (She was correcting my pronunciation.) It was fun to bond with my daughter with this book on her favorite subject.

This is cute AS LONG AS the child reading it knows that half of this is real and half of it isn't!
